Wow. I've been having an issue sharing a folder with my other pc. Numerous guides and nothing worked. Then I watched this video and everything works. Hallelujah! Thanks for posting this.

PROBLEM:
Network Error, You do not have permission to access. Contact your network administrator to request access.
SOLUTION:
Properties / Sharing / Share / Add the "Everyone" category . . . Permission level / Read/Write
You must have just seen your files or folder or drive on the second PC and then come here quickly and written your comment without actually trying to open the folder or file or drive. Because if you did, then you will discover that this his method doesn't work. He ended his illustration prematurely. It was actually dishonest for him to use the same PC to show how it opens. There are better videos out there that actually show you how the file or folders open in the second PC.

Did it exactly and it asked for credentials. Typed in my profile name and password for my PC and I got as far as the file in the window of the PC I want them transfered to, but then it still says I don't have the right permissions. I have disabled passwords on all boxes I can on both PCs in advanced sharing settings. Any ideas?

If you have 2 pcs just type the account name in "user name " and the password you type when you boot your other laptop in "password "

Just to clearify for anyone can't follow this instructions ^ Go back to the drives properties and go to the security tab > Advance > Permissions > Add > type "Everyone" and give full access :)

Super easy barely inconvenience
its showing an error to connect, says permission not granted. followed all the steps on both computers.
Go back to the drives properties and go to the security tab > Advance > Permissions > Add > type "Everyone" and give full access :)
Does it work even if the laptop with which my files have been shared is switched off? I mean I will access the files without turning on the laptop that is sharing the file. Does it work?
I don't know if it's just my PC, or if something's changed in 4 years, but I also needed to physically add "Everybody" to the list in the 'security tab' as well, otherwise I couldn't open the folder. Also, simply sharing the drive was not enough... I still didn't have access to the folders on the drive. I needed to share the actual folder. Also, not sure why, but I'm only getting 10MB/s transfer speeds, when my router has 1.5Gbps. I'm trying to transfer 540GB of video footage... 1hr and 20mins to a WD Passport drive through usb2.0 at ~100+ MB/s, and roughly same from the drive to the new PC through usb2.0 as well, but over my local network... it's telling me 14 hours. What the freaking heck?

man i need help, when i click to open the folder that i shared from my 2nd pc windows tells me: not enough permission. contact the owner of the folder to have it, but i did everithing you told in the tutorial

Renaming the folder resets the sharing settings to the default settings.

What data transfer speeds do you get when copying large files to a network share such as this? Have you looked into this?
@@shakal_ Thanks for taking the trouble to reply, but I don't agree - and especially not with 'entirely'. It is more complex than this. If the router has contention from other users it won't give anything like its maximum throughput. Then there is its error-corection and other overheads - which is data that consumes part of the 100MBps - but is not YOUR data. Then there are other potentially weak links and overheads in the systems' interfaces, at both host and client end. It's why I asked what speeds in practice the OP was getting. After all, who gets 6Gb/s writing to a SATA II drive, even though that's what it says on the label.

Why is it this so difficult just to access files from my laptop in the garage when I am in my bedroom a few yards away on the same wifi network without having to literally use a command prompt? Shouldn't this be a super easy, and automatic thing with Windows10?

You only need the command prompt to find out your IP address, this works just fine if you type in the name of the computer too eg. \\my_desktop\F In fairness, it's so much better than it used to be, setting up Workgroups etc. Ultimately nowadays you only have to share the folder, amend the security and you're done. Not sure how much simpler it could be and still be secure.

Can i make shortcuts of (network PC : /C: & /D: ) in one folder (name of that PC) and to put in desktop, i have 15 PC like that.. and need to share files from all PCs to all PCs..

What if I dont want everyone on my wifi to browse thru my documents tho?? I only want two of my pc's to see eachother not everyone else! Do you have a video covering that??
Only users you have configured to read access or above on your documents would be able to log in and access them. Set permissions for "Everyone" to have everything off, then allow the specific accounts you want for read/change/full control

Does not work. If you try to open the shared file/folder on the second computer and you wont be able. Thats the most important part, but he skims over it and shows himself opening the drive from the same computer on which the drive is originally found.
