I don't know if you ever covered it, but one thing I've been finding increasingly essential for helping out other people is Quick Assist. It's built into Windows 10 and it's so freaking easy when someone calls and says "I need your help. My computer's not working right." I start up Quick Assist and log into my MS account, and I just tell them: "Click Start, type 'Quick', and choose Quick Assist from the listing." They type in the 6-digit code I give them (they don't need to log into an account or anything) and I can connect to them, see what they're doing, take control (with their permission), and fix their problem or help them out. The best part is that you don't have to guide them through downloading or running software from one of the other remote-control services. Those are great when you want to regularly connect to certain computers, but when a family member or friend calls with a problem for the first time, you can have them running Quick Assist within a minute and be connected to them and helping.

I have ALL of these except backblaze and dropbox. I use Google Drive tho, and I have a few HDDs for backup. I'd also recommend Audacity for basic audio editing and FreeFileSync. Another for productivity I'd highly recommend for mass renaming files is Better File Rename. Epic, GOG and others sometimes give away free games, so keep them all in mind (as well as humble bundle) For antivirus, I use VirusTotal (it uses many AVs) alongside Windows Defender and Malwarebytes. ZoneAlarm has a pretty good firewall which is extremely customizable in comparison to Windows Firewall.

I use Google backup and sync to Google drive as my backup software, and I have over 40gb of photos and videos and I'm still using the free version because you can select an option called "high quality" and it compresses your photos and videos, however, I haven't really noticed any reduction in quality, so I really recommend it to anyone who wants to backup their stuff for free.
Also windows has a built in blue light filter in the display settings.
The best program: thiojoe's yt channel
9:10 Definatelly avoid Avast, unless you want your data sold. Go for malwarebytes adwcleaner for anti-virus program
Just download brain and you are good to go
0:42 Check, and Check. I use VLC for everything, and MPC when I wanna watch something quickly.
1:24 Check. I have a lot of files associated with it, including .rb, .ini, among others.
2:02 Ehhh...not a fan.
3:02 I don't recall this one...don't have that kind of money to just throw around either.
3:40 Yeah. I believe it's exclusive to Windows 10.
4:20 Yeah; I dumped uTorrent a while ago. Good riddance, really.
4:42 Check, and Check. Both are useful.
5:30 Well, yeah, I'm on your Discord (I asked if you knew about Iridium for RUclips).
6:00 Check. I have a lot of software and games through Steam.
6:30 If I had a more powerful computer I'd consider it.
7:16 When I do upgrade to a better computer and to Windows 10, I'll DEFINITELY GRAB THIS.
7:50 Is this Windows 10 exclusive?
9:40 Brave doesn't run for me, at least, it just runs super laggy...
I'm not an expert, just decently experienced. I'm not quite sure what qualifies as being an expert though...
TreeSizeFree and voidtools Everything for searching files and keeping up to disk usage. MediaMonkey for keeping my non-streaming self in touch with my music. Vivaldi for web browsing, Firefox for RUclips. XnView for quick color manipulation, cropping and general enhancement/adjusting of pictures. HWMonitor for checking temps and such. K-Lite Codec Pack and MPC-HC for videos. To name a few must haves.
Joe, thanks for the video. I already have most of the programs that you have mention. And that is thanks to you; keep up the good work
I use everything you've mentioned except for MPC (I use VLC), Backblaze (I use FreeFileSync), WinRAR (I use 7-Zip), and ShareX. I also use Classic Shell to get the old-school Windows Start Menu back.
"dont use it to download cracked things" me: *laughs in my dad using it to download cracked games*
You can use bandizip(compressed file handler) and free download manager(torrent client)
For Media player, I use Potplayer
best of all
@@rufusscull Even the Windows Default one is better than that.
@@Secondarian You're kidding right 🤔 potplayer has an easy to use interface, pretty lightweight too
I've used a lot of players, km player used to be my favourite back in the days! But Pot player has replaced its place
@@rufusscull Better then VLC ?
I don't watch videos on my computer (other than RUclips) so that doesn't bother me. But I do play audio files (wav or CD). What I like most about VLC is the built-in graphic equaliser.
Great list Thio, replaced some on your list a while ago, but cool video, I am not a computer expert so I might got some crap stuff :(
Might as well as share it:
1 - Pot Player (light years ahead of MPC and VLC)
2 - Sublime Text, along with OnlyOffice (ditched Notepad++ and MS Office)
3 - Jottacloud (free 5 GB, Unlimited €7.50/month)
4 - F.lux (no change)
5 - Qbitorrent (no change)
6 - Winrar (no change, nothing against 7Zip, personal choice)
7 - Discord (no change, great to replace FB messenger)
8 - Steam (no change)
9 - Debut by NCH for screen recording, OBS for streaming
10 - Gyazo (your recommendation looked a bit bloated, to be honest)
11 - Comodo antivirus & firewall personal edition
12 - Opera GX browser
13 - MusicBee (music player and library, bye WMP)
14 - ImageGlass (to replace the awful Win10 photo viewer)
15 - Wondershare AllMyTube (to piss off RUclips, nice downloader and converter)
16 - Mixxx (DJ & Playlist Software)
17 - Format Factory (converts anything to everything)

It would be nice if would add the links to make it easier to find what you are talking about
I already have some of these but nice video anyway, really useful!
When your Editor has the power to use Gold Experience Requiem on ThioJoe in the thumbnail.
I can't figure out how to connect this to Great Days but it has the same effect in the intro :P
Bro, I'm not sure I'd be putting my tax docs onto Dropbox. I question your thinking on that one for sure.
@Steven Cromwell do it on the go. Cryptomator is the best thing I've come across. Works wonderfully both on desktop and mobile and it works with every cloud provider.
@@filipebet Awesome suggestion! Thank you for the recommendation.
@@drumpf4all I'm glad you found it useful. The Android app is not free but it is really good and we only need to pay it once. I can't believe I gave all those companies access to my unencrypted personal files. It was so normal and now it seems so crazy haha
@@filipebet I know. I feel the same way.
Just ignore the shilling of cloud services, both by thio and everyone else who promotes them. They're all terrible and you'd be better off in every way using external offline storage.
Backup in a cloud is an absolute no go for me!
Even ifyou encrypt... every encryption is cheap to break after some time.
Lol that loop Theo made (int i =0; i=1; i++)
Also replace winrar with 7zip
Why?
@@AIexandre i=1 is always true. Plus i cycles between 1 and 2, resulting in an infinite loop. Try it out and see how fun it is to lock up your program due to an infinite loop.
@@SimGunther the "why" was for the WinRAR 7zip thing xDD

Check SMPlayer as an alternative to VLC, it uses MPV as a backend which is better than MPC.

I am surprised you didn't mention Vivaldi as one of the better browsers. I have been using it since forever now after trying Chrome, Fox and Brave. I just love finding new features in Vivaldi randomly. I'd prefer to stay away from actual Chrome browser though.
Just use Opera
Its mid
@@estebanod So what's not mid according to you? Always whenever wherever you do, leave constructive criticism. It's a good trait to have 👍
You don't like something, then let them know what better alternative you have and what makes it better. Cuz just saying ahh this is bad doesn't do anyone any good and is like spreading negativity for the sake of it. 🌞 The intention of a negative remark is never clear. Are they saying it cuz maybe they are getting paid to do so, without any real reason? Who knows...
Hello, Can I please ask a question? Is ShareX a copy of Greenshot or is Greenshot a copy of ShareX.
You should put an activate windows watermark on all your videos
I for one love having different backgrounds, specially since it also changes accent colors, so I suggest
- Dynamic themes for spotlight and Bing pictures
-and John's background switcher, the best program I never knew of until recently.
No mention of Vivaldi Browser??? 0.0
Great list. I would add Calibre as the best free software to read any type of digital books.
Good choice
Dude, you lost me with Dropbox! XD It used to be great back in its day but that was mainly because of a lack of alternatives. Dropbox free is limited to 2GB (Microsoft OneDrive offers 5GB and Google Drive offers 15GB) but you neglected to mention that as of March 2019 it has a 3-device limit as well (which is not the case with other services).
I definitely prefer PeaZip as a compression tool, it supports lots of extensions WinRar or 7-zip can't work with and has a more practical interface
WinRAR completes me.
Edit: You can use bookmarks in VLC.
I can call myself a computer expert because I have watched all videos of ThioJoe since 2019
Well I guess I'm a certified computer expert :)
ThioJoe is rocking that "Recent Apps on your mom's phone" style
You forgot Winamp, its still the best music player.

Daum Pot Player is better than VLC, IMO.
Heh, I'd NEVER put any sensitive files like my tax returns on a cloud platform, especially not Dropbox who is notorious for security breaches! 🤔
Just upload encrypted and pw protected archives, like with RAR. How much more security does the average person need?
Search for CryptSync, you can have your files in the cloud encrypted (not the platform encryption, your own)
TJ - I almost lost my PC last night. I know it was due to I THINK..Was ShutUP10, when I installed and ran it, I bombed - the first time, I should have stopped there - also, it downloaded itself onto my PC without me getting a notification. That's only happened ONE time (Segurazo - finally got rid of that crap software) - Anyway. I thought I'd let you know MY experience. I was able to recover from the windows menu - I was really close to doing a total recovery, it just ran so slow when it first started up after it crashed. I've been watching your channel, and I know you know what you are doing - that's why I am giving you this feedback. I've checked everything (anti-virus scans - CMD scrips (SFC/SCANNOW - CHKDSK /f C: - and DSIM.exe). Checked my Hardware through the HP diagnostic tools. All seems fine now.
4:34 of courseeeeee i wonttttt *cough* pirate *cough* stuff *cough * *cough*
Always encrypt your data before uploading to ANY cloud. Use VeraCrypt or Cryptonator.
Just don't upload to the cloud and use offline redundant storage. Every major encryption algorithm has been backdoored. Cheaper in long run too

O&O shutup 10 corrupted my PC when i installed Valorant. i got stuck at "choose your keyboard layout" i couldn't use any restore point. my only option was to format my PC. be aware
Valorant uses a kernel level anti cheat solution that can cause these issues with lots of things because it has essentially top level access.
@@angrynerd2103 i know this already. when i formatted my computer I didn't install o&o and everything worked just fine with Valorant.
Don't rely on restore points ever. Use a third party software a keep a backup image of your entire drive. 👍
@@SeriesTube01 this is the best option but that requires alot of disk space that some people just cant dedicate.
@@angrynerd2103 External or portable hard drives are not that expensive. I'm from latin america and they are expensive in this third world shithole, but in north America and Europe, they're cheap. And even if you don't like that option, then you have cloud backup, also better in north America and Europe, you have way faster internet connections than here. So we all have options, just need to dedicate time to set up our backup. Regards.
If you have Windows 10 and reading this, can I suggest a few alternatives to some of this programs?
Instead of Dropbox, Windows 10 has OneDrive integrated on the system, and the free tier is 5GB instead of 2GB.
Instead of f.lux, Windows 10 has also a Night Light integrated on the system, on Settings > System > Display.
In the Chromium browsers section, please, download and test the new Edge browser, is sooooooo faster and lighter compared with Chrome. Firefox is really good too.
A Linux usb creator is the most essential thing you can have installed on Windows
Can i have a heart and a comment. Love the vids bro.
No
Ok
I have ALL of these except backblaze and dropbox. I use Google Drive tho, and I have a few HDDs for backup.
I'd also recommend Audacity for basic audio editing and FreeFileSync.
Another for productivity I'd highly recommend for mass renaming files is Better File Rename.
Epic, GOG and others sometimes give away free games, so keep them all in mind (as well as humble bundle)
For antivirus, I use VirusTotal (it uses many AVs) alongside Windows Defender and Malwarebytes.
ZoneAlarm has a pretty good firewall which is extremely customizable in comparison to Windows Firewall.
