OMG! Guys, run from that cabin project. As a former carpenter, that place is super sketch to consider as a fixer upper. Remember, you have to fix it up to a point that passes applicable building code. But more importantly considering you want to make it a vacation rental, you have to be able to insure it at a reasonable cost. Whatever property you chose, you need to keep that in mind and build the cost into your business model. You guys are amazing and I wish you great success in your new endeavors!!
Land in that area, especially if it has utilities and no funky easements or restrictions, can run 50k an acre or more. With no house. That was a fairly good deal for 7.5 acres.
Been watching you guys for years…from someone who has spent most of my life enjoying the southern Appalachian mountains in GA, NC and SC this is so fun to watch. Here’s hoping you continue to enjoy the gem of the southern appalachians.
Thanks for the Gold Mine Tour. Very interesting. It is obvious that this was filmed before the 2 recent Tropical Storm and Hurricane. It would be interesting to know how this area is, after the devastation of Helene. I am in North Carolina where it is going to take many, many years if not decades to recover. Hoping you find your 'place' to set down a home base for you to renovate or build for your future travel journeys. I am looking forward to your future expeditions.🥰
I am a GA native & lived there for 58 years,… now we’re in SC, (just outside of Greenville). North GA is beautiful,… I’ve been to Dalonega numerous times. East TN has a similar feel; there are many small towns there and SC also much the same feel in the Upstate area. Good luck in your search our prayers are with you as you begin this next chapter. Try not to overdo it…I know you’re a hard worker Jordan. Also, you do such a good job of looking after your family.
So glad you got to see at least a part of the Appalachian mountains before it was nearly destroyed. I live in one so let me advise you to not make your home in an old log cabin!lol...that odor is moisture....
My husband and I started watching you two about three months ago. We enjoyed the sailing videos so much. Thank you both for sharing them, and we will go watch the beginning of your adventures. After watching this video, I know we will enjoy all of the future videos! 🩷☮️
I wouldn't walk away from that cabin, I would 🏃♂️, imo though it's wonderful you will be closer to me. Remember to think long-term for schools, especially in Georgia
Bummed you're selling Atticus. But watching how happy and stress free you are. It's definitely the right path. Props for making the change for happiness.
Holy cow Atticus crew, your video making skills are next level. PBS level. Been subscribed since your 1st boat and I admit I was worried about the 180 degree shift in content but you are crushing it. Your story telling is so educational and interesting. On par with your top level video and editing skills. Shows me it's as much the creator as the content. Awesome job guys.
Jordan and Desiree… love the new land-based adventure theme! Hope you find a residence close to the grandparents! A babysitting source will be a precious commodity.
Beautiful filming. You all must be going through so many mixed emotions these last several months. The bitter-sweet of leaving behind your sailing life. And yet, being a mom, and remembering what pregnancy is like.. I could see in Desirae's face a relaxed peace I've not seen in a while. Being in your own country and knowing how things work for health care must give you both peace of mind. Like many comments, don't rush into anything... follow your heart, yet living day to day in a place is different than the 'wow' of a first visit. You all put so much effort and research into Atticus 2 before getting her, I hope you all do the same with where you settle down and your next house. And lastly, I know your families in Florida are going through so much right now with the hurricanes. However, you all came back at the best time. Not only for the new baby on the way, but also for your families that need your support right now. I'm sure on so many levels they are grateful to have you back near them.
I was in the USNavy for 22 years and got to see a lot of different countries (Israel, Egypt, Turkey, Spain, Italy, and France). So, your travels to various countries coupled with my sailing interests is what attracted me to your channel. Now, that's all different, however, I still find myself attracted to your channel bc of my interests in what the USA has to offer in sight seeing. I wanted to do this when I retired, but the wife did not, so when I go I usually go with someone else or solo. For instance, I just visited The Creation Museum and The Ark Encounter with a close friend from Bible Study (Bucket list attractions for sure!). Can't wait to see the next video and the house/log cabin you wind up with.
I recall how much you guys loved Maine after buying Atticus II. I'm really surprised you didn't try to hit it up before the cold sets in up there. I can tell you that when we moved inland to buy a homestead, I knew I'd miss the smell of the sea but I had no idea that 7 years later I'd still wake up every single morning with that longing for the salt air, seagulls, seals and fog horns I'd grown so accustomed to on the California Central Coast. Maine is such a perfect mix of sea life, lakes, rivers, mountains and the four seasons. The Oregon coast might make a close comparison to that as well. Either way, I love your new adventure and pray you find the perfect home for your growing family.
Keep looking! Still kind of shocked how quickly things transitioned to land life, but I think it will be good for you all. I could see a Project Atticus meets Keep Your Daydream episode in the near future.
Wow,.........? Now I cannot say wow Sailor I need to formulate a new word that will describe your new adventure. Stay safe and I love the small wooden home you might buy ❤
I live in Blairsville and when I saw this episode at Vogel, I said hay they are in my back yard... hope yall enjoy your time here!!! Love watching your show!!❤❤
I think the mispronunciation of s'mores can be considered semi sacrilegious in some parts! But, they are so tasty, that no one should be faulted if they can't wait until dark to get them into the fire! So glad to see the four of you looking into finding a place to get rooted! Here's to hoping you find a place quickly because that town seems idyllic!
Welcome to my neck of the woods! On the Etowah River right outside Dahlonega, gold miners dug a tunnel through a mountain to cut off the river and dry the riverbed so they could mine it easier. You can now kayak through the tunnel. Only thing like it that i know of in the Southeast.
If you settle in North Georgia, come for a day sail on my Lake Lanier cruiser (Catalina 28). Our Barefoot Sailing club would love to have you visit and meet us.
Dahlonega is my hometown! I also grew up in a log cabin on the Chestatee River. It's a beautiful place, for sure! I haven't lived there in 35 years, but I have been back from time to time. Dahlonega has not really changed, but the surrounding areas have. It's a good time to check out Ellijay for the Apples and Amicalola Falls. Enjoy!
Congratulations guys, I was a sailor and now I’m RV’r we are from Miami. Recommend TPMS tire pressure monitoring system. Is very important like the rear camera.
We can't believe you guys were in our hometown area, and we didn't get to meet you! We live right across the street from Amicalola Falls State Park and the start of the Appalachian Trail. We would love to show you our favorite secret campsites!
It would be a dead investment, a house that would be difficult to sell. The sun hardly ever gets into the house and it doesn't look healthy. The ceilings are very low, the wooden structure may be moldy, causing odor and humidity. Security is another issue, I definitely wouldn't recommend buying it.
To me that cabin looks kinda creepy. Don't know if I have watched too many horror movies that take place in a kinda similiar scenario. One thing I would advice is to ALWAYS talk to neighbors and even local police before buying a property that is so secluded. That way you know if there are any horror stories or records. You don't want to move into a house with strange vibes. Don't just trust the real estate person, they do not necessarily tell everything, as obviously they just want to close a deal.
Is anyone else confused? I thought a couple of videos ago they said they were going to spend some time in the RV, cruising the country and seeing where they might like to live. And here, the very first stop with the RV, they are looking at buying a place?? I was looking forward to a year-long tour of the US, weighing the pros and cons of each area. I feel like we could all use a catch-up on how we got from A to B. That said, I always love your videos and following your story.
With your talent, seems like a better idea would be to buy five or ten acres where you want to be and then order a log cabin kit and finish it out. Not only would you avoid the pratfalls of the old log cabin, but all of the roof/wiring/plumbing/sewer/etc. on a new kit would give you at least twenty years before you'd have to do much work on it. And it would be an interesting "build" channel - FROM BOATS TO LOGS.
Make s'mores with microwave is UNFORGIVABLE! Yes, after dark ..... they just don't taste right while the sun is still up. I found thAt out this summer while at Tuktoyaktuk on the Arctic Ocean this summer.
You need to expand your campfire cuisine with a "Banana Boat" 😊 A cross between a s’more and a banana split, a banana boat is a quick and easy dessert to make while camping. Just split a banana in half, stuff it with toppings, wrap it in tin foil, and place it over the fire. Stuffings include marshmallows and chocolates - I like to use Reese's Peanut Putter Cups.
Happy to watch your episode every week. Admire your idea and action of following your dream. But the most importance is the love of each other and the family. On your way to follow your dream, both of you do put each other and family in the first place when you plan your next step of the journey of your life.
Proceed with caution. House fixer uppers are just like boat fixer uppers, they are both money pits. It's worse with houses if you go far enough to have to upgrade to code the wiring and plumbing.
So I was thinking of some other places to visit and when you mentioned the Cherokee’s it brought back thoughts of a beautiful place called Tahlequah Oklahoma. This is where the Cherokee came to settle on the trail of tears. Beautiful lake nearby and foothills of the Ozark’s.
Absolutely amazing! I thoroughly enjoy your videos, and the history you share. Your new chapter is every bit and more what the sailing chapters were. You're in areas now my wife and I just might be able to reach some day, and sharing history I had no idea about. You both have a real talent and gift to create such awesome content along your adventures. Thanks so much for sharing it!
Wait for dark for s'mores? That's just silly. For coastal campouts in June in Oregon, that would be after 10pm. Using a microwave is definitely blasphemous! Very much appreciated the detailed tour of the gold mine. Nicely done!
Suh-mores 🤣. Not sure if you guys saw my comment on your last video about checking out the new river valley in southwest Virginia. Georgia schools are better than Tennessee because of the taxes, but VA is a good 4- season state. New River is perhaps the second oldest river in the world. Close enough to the blue ridge and Appalachian mountains, caverns, trails, rafting, fishing, canopy tours... lots of history in VA. Can get to beaches in VA, NC and SC in half day drive (6 hours). Food for thought. Also hoping your mom is okay in Sarasota!
...had no doubt you two could make films anywhere you set your minds to. Brilliant stuff here!! Story telling, your appreciation of the experience, and of course, we just like you guys! Jordan, your comments going up the stairs with the real estate agent cracked me up. BTW, smores best consumed with kids😊
Okay. S’more etiquette. For supper, you start your campfire, when ready you’re going to heat chili and cook hotdogs. After that, you get the s’more ingredients together. Because this is happening in late fall, the sun is either setting or has set. That’s why you don’t eat s’mores during day. Definitely no microwaves or any other way to heat the marshmallows but the campfire. Ok, I just made it all up, but it seems logical to me. 🤣
Yes!!! Buy it!!!! And congratulations!!!! You all have pulled it off, I wasn’t sure about how your content would transition from boat life, cruising… you’ll put out GREAT CONTENT what ever you do❤
With, soon to be two kids, it would be so nice to be closer to family - speaking as a granddad to a 3-1/2 year old girl. I hope you travel around for a year and really know what/where you want to be. There's lots of nice country East of I-75 in Florida.
Regarding Smores: Here are a few of our family favorites (marshmallows on all) raspberries, dark chocolate (with or without mint) graham crackers Girl Scout Thin Mints, raspberries, with or without graham crackers York Peppermint Patties, raspberries, graham crackers cookies instead of graham crackers (fudge stripe, choc chip etc) any candy bar instead of chocolate we obviously like dark choc, raspberries and mint...
Log homes have a feeling of wilderness. I built and have lived in a log home for the past 25 years. Log homes by definition are not air tight like modern frame homes. The logs move and float with the weather.
I found starter briquettes in Home Depot with the fireplace supplies. They make starting fires extremely simple. No lighter fluid needed, You set one briquette on top of the wood. You light it and it lights the fire. They come in a pack of 12 to 24. I use it light my outdoor fire when I burn brush. Works great. Just a tip for you if you plan to hit a lot of campgrounds. They are wrapped and you start them in the wrapper.
DUDE!!! That was one of the funnest, good vibe videos that I’ve seen in a minute! I would absolutely think hard on the log cabin! That seems like a good purchase. You guys are awesome 🤘😎 Keep on keepin’ on!
Vogel is our favorite state park in Georgia. Never a bad time to stay there. Thanks for the tour through mine. We have never made an extended stop in Dahlonega.
Love you guy! Chris was a wonderful guide. Hope all is as well as can be expected with your family in Florida. Safe travels. ❤ I wonder how this area weathered Helene.???
My Dad lives in Blairsville which is a few minutes from Vogel State Park. Went there every summer as a kid. The coldest lake in the world is there. Love the North Georgia mountains! Such a beautiful area! Saw on Keep Your Daydream a cool way to make smores. Wrap a waffle cone full of chocolate and marshmallows in foil and put on the campfire. Well of course you have to wait until dark to eat smores. Everybody knows that. I think that's camping 101. Love seeing your little family RVing! Hope the family are all well in Florida!
Great video. Good to hear you have found a buyer for Atticus II. To run AirBnB, I would suggest you find a less popular area (few exiting AirBnBs), but within 2 hours drive of big populations (greater than 3 million). It's the sort of thing where good analysis is required. Codie Sanchez recently made a video 'This Tiny Home Airbnb Makes...'. Two big things are automating the booking process as much as possible and making the places feel really nice. Having multiple cabins, has numerous benefits, one being able to start small and add more as the cash comes in. I would avoid using all your cash, or borrowing.
"..massive old growth trees in Vogel State Park..." how quaint, LOL. When you are ready to experience trees that are actually massive, come on out here to Humboldt to walk amongst the true giants, Sequoias and Redwoods. There are multiple parks and camping opportunities where you can experience them in our area. You will never look at trees the same!
That is a beautiful area, but looks very rural. I live in a tourist town in a rural area and love it. But I'm retired so I don't have a commute. It is 40 minutes to the nearest doctor's office or hospital, grocery store, mall, decent restaurants, jobs, etc. Also, owning a B&B is difficult unless you live very close to it. That cabin looked interesting but s bit impractical. Anyway, love your new show, you're making it very interesting and fun!❤
North GA is beautiful. I live just north of Atlanta and my wife and I are planning for our forever home up there. Side note: North GA - shrimp or meatloaf. Always take the meatloaf. 2nd side note - go check out Helen. You'll understand why when you get there. Tacky & weird, yet satisfying.
Lovely video guys I have watched you since there was only two of you now your a little family ❤️thank you for sharing part of your beautiful country watching you from Edinburgh Scotland
1st mine was found in Concord NC, at Reeds gold mine the y took a 5 lb rock to the coast , to a assay office to see what the doorstop was made of and found out it was gold and came back to open the mine,I live in a looghame on 6 acres in Concord Down the road from Reeds Gold Mine, around here everything is just down the road, 3 hours south from Hendersonville,NC
Log home renovation: 4 the $$$, recommendation, raw land purchase, well dug, utilities, road, is cheaper than restoration. Log manufacturers do it cheaper. NW WA ST. I worked GA good folks there.
I had no idea you were so close! I live in Adairsville which is maybe a hour south of where you are. We went to Elijay to look at houses a couple of weeks ago and got the scare of our lives in a Thunderstorm on the way back, even the Agent said it was the worst one she’s ever seen and she’s even older than me! It’s a great town with a Popular Downtown Area that reminds me of a Ski Town. I have sold my house & after looking for months, we’re building one. Jasper would be a great town that’s in the Mountains but close enough for hospital’s, school’s, good restaurants and good grocery stores. I think you’ll like the people in any of the North Georgia Mountain towns, they are special. In fact the Blue Ridge Mountains and People are wonderful, and there’s so much History. Remember the “Great Locomotive Chase”? It happened in Adairsville. I hope you’ll travel it & then decide where you like the best. I’ve used the same Agent the last 4 houses that’s wonderful and does it how YOU want…. She’s got years of experience at kinds of properties. Good Luck!!🍀
Day s'mores are totally fine, as long as done over a fire or candle. Microwaves are absolutely not kosher, as there must be browning. Also, add peanut butter.
Try something fun - a smaco! Take a tortilla and butter one side then place the buttered side down on a piece of foil. Fill the tortilla with marshmallows, peanut butter, bananas, nuts, chocolate chips - whatever you want. Roll up like a burrito and wrap in the foil then put right in the fire. Cook for 5-10 minutes. SO good! But for s’mores, there are no rules. Make them your own! Don’t forget to try banana boats and hobo tin foil dinners!
From a life long camper: all foods done on a campfire are to be done at night......UNLESS, it is your only cooking source, and you can cook "Foil Babies" (ground beef or chopped chicken wrapped in foil with a potato, carrots, ect. with lots of butter, cooked in foil, over coals) or your breakfast cooking. S'mores, hot dogs, and mountain pies(mountain pizzas) are all to be done after dark. I mean really, Jordan.........lol
Tip: Take the bamboo skewers and stick them in a hole drilled in the end of an old broomstick (or a new thick dowel)...just replace the skewer after you've made s'mores.

As a professional in the building trades i would highly recommend passing on that cute little cabin especially at that price

Ever seen a skinwalker? I need to catch and cook one !!!!! (Im curious about the taste). Can you share any insights?
I truly enjoy all the history, whether in Greece or Turkey or Georgia. Jordan always makes his videos interesting in more ways than one.

Uh-oh! Jordan wants to fly so bad 😅 we'd love to do a video with you guys! Shoot me a message des@projectatticus.com and I'll be in touch!! Thank you!
Jordan and Desiree… love the new land-based adventure theme! Hope you find a residence close to the grandparents! A babysitting source will be a precious commodity.
I'm so glad you guys made it through the hurricanes! We were so worried.
The big reason I never took up sailing is my love of the woods. I can't give them up

Slow down.
You're growing from 3 to 4 and you're changing lifestyles fast.
Nothing wrong with renting for a bit while you get your land legs back.

@@windingroad9678great advice.
@jimmyallen2245 LOL we're like their TV parents 🤣

Absolutely amazing! I thoroughly enjoy your videos, and the history you share. Your new chapter is every bit and more what the sailing chapters were. You're in areas now my wife and I just might be able to reach some day, and sharing history I had no idea about. You both have a real talent and gift to create such awesome content along your adventures. Thanks so much for sharing it!
LOL! Buying a stick when in the woods is Blasphemy! 😂
Wait for dark for s'mores? That's just silly. For coastal campouts in June in Oregon, that would be after 10pm. Using a microwave is definitely blasphemous!
Very much appreciated the detailed tour of the gold mine. Nicely done!
We love the area. We live about 30 minutes away. We have been to the gold mine and Helen is close to us also. Great area.
Doolin' banjo was brought to mind!! I'm in Poros now because of your show. Thank you for that!! Great place.
Yes!!! Buy it!!!! And congratulations!!!! You all have pulled it off, I wasn’t sure about how your content would transition from boat life, cruising… you’ll put out GREAT CONTENT what ever you do❤
What about being close to family and other kids to play with.
Very important!
Hello little family, I've been so worried for you ,and your family in Sarasota.Thank god you're safe. ❤
With, soon to be two kids, it would be so nice to be closer to family - speaking as a granddad to a 3-1/2 year old girl. I hope you travel around for a year and really know what/where you want to be. There's lots of nice country East of I-75 in Florida.
Great tour of a beautiful area, with a very sad past. (I had often wondered where Dahlonega got its name. Thanks for the enlightenment!) 😎❤️🥰
Regarding Smores: Here are a few of our family favorites (marshmallows on all)
raspberries, dark chocolate (with or without mint) graham crackers
Girl Scout Thin Mints, raspberries, with or without graham crackers
York Peppermint Patties, raspberries, graham crackers
cookies instead of graham crackers (fudge stripe, choc chip etc)
any candy bar instead of chocolate
we obviously like dark choc, raspberries and mint...
Log homes have a feeling of wilderness. I built and have lived in a log home for the past 25 years. Log homes by definition are not air tight like modern frame homes. The logs move and float with the weather.
That cottage should be in a horror movie.. run forest run.. 😮
Love my Saturday morning history lessons with PA 😅
I found starter briquettes in Home Depot with the fireplace supplies. They make starting fires extremely simple. No lighter fluid needed, You set one briquette on top of the wood. You light it and it lights the fire. They come in a pack of 12 to 24. I use it light my outdoor fire when I burn brush. Works great. Just a tip for you if you plan to hit a lot of campgrounds. They are wrapped and you start them in the wrapper.
So does gas! 🔥
Great Saturday morning coffee with Atticus. Thanks for the great history lesson about gold. Cool. Enjoy.
Love you guy! Chris was a wonderful guide. Hope all is as well as can be expected with your family in Florida. Safe travels. ❤ I wonder how this area weathered Helene.???
While you're in the neighborhood, be sure to see Fontana Lake. Enjoyed it!!
I freaking love exploring the US. This is gonna be such a cool series.
I hope your family is doing OK. After this last hurricane again 🙏
Definitely not the coldest fresh water lake in the world, not even the coldest in the USA...definitely a beautiful place❤✌️♥️
Great video! Loved seeing the town and the mine tour & guide were awesome. I vote no on the cabin though. ❤
Hope all is well down in Nokomis, and Sarasota county after Milton take care. Thanks for the episode.
I believe I'm going enjoy your adventures at home as much as I did overseas! Thank you for a great video.
Hey guys! Did this cabin make it thru Helene ok? I hope you guys made it thru the storm ok! I'm guessing you packed up the camper and left the area?
Log home renovation: 4 the $$$, recommendation, raw land purchase, well dug, utilities, road, is cheaper than restoration. Log manufacturers do it cheaper. NW WA ST. I worked GA good folks there.
😂😂😂 the house tour is funny
WELCOME1 You founnd America, happy to have you back.
Day s'mores are totally fine, as long as done over a fire or candle. Microwaves are absolutely not kosher, as there must be browning. Also, add peanut butter.
Man chris is awesome. And that real estate agent has a great sense of humor.
Amazing video, love your adventures and the history lessons are awesome 🤗💞
Try something fun - a smaco! Take a tortilla and butter one side then place the buttered side down on a piece of foil. Fill the tortilla with marshmallows, peanut butter, bananas, nuts, chocolate chips - whatever you want. Roll up like a burrito and wrap in the foil then put right in the fire. Cook for 5-10 minutes. SO good! But for s’mores, there are no rules. Make them your own! Don’t forget to try banana boats and hobo tin foil dinners!
I am so excited for both of your new journey period every video that comes out I am so excited to watch. Cannot even wait for the upcoming videos
You guys seem happier since you made the decision to sell your boat, and yes buy the cabin 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
So happy for you guys! Love the new theme of the videos.
Tip:
Take the bamboo skewers and stick them in a hole drilled in the end of an old broomstick (or a new thick dowel)...just replace the skewer after you've made s'mores.
S'more any time of day, even breakfast, but sacrilege if it isn't smoked over a fire...sorry.
Y’all should check out rabun county. About 45 minutes more north in Georgia. Even more beautiful mountains ☺️
