You can’t watch videos like this and not cry, not just because of their devastated lives, but because of the togetherness! Everyone helping everyone without a thought. 🙌🏻🎯❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
What you guys and Megan and her family showed us is what American really is and can be. How encouraging especially right now. Thank you for being the people you are.
That’s by far the best coverage of Helene that I have seen from anywhere. You did a great job with this episode and found some awesome people to show you around and explain the situation. Thanks
My 90 year old father was so moved that he donated $50 to Megan's Farm Recovery. He says he's praying for the entire families recovery and sends his love and prayers to all. His name is James Hewlett from Georgia. 🙏❤️
I also LOVE the fact that you guys went on the ground and found 3 groups that need this money and we are able to donate directly to them. Knowing that this will make a real difference. When you donate to large aid organizations up to 30% or more of your donation goes to administrative costs. This goes directly to those who really are making a difference in the community with no waste. KUDOS!
This is one of the best updates I’ve seen so far. Thank you for keeping it real. These people have lost so much but they are gaining the things that last a lifetime.
I was waiting for you to get to us here in North Carolina. It's still awful for some of my friends. Thank you for doing us justice! Swannoa is just gone
Jordan, you have covered this better than any of the so called professionals. Great Job!!! Although things are difficult, it so refreshing that we are getting actual honest news. So proud of you. I think we've found our new news man!
I wish I could do more to help. After black mold poisoning in Virginia, I lost everything, including my health. I was forced to leave everything behind and faced homelessness, leading to some truly difficult situations and unhealthy environments. It took two long years to finally secure my own apartment. Even now, I’m still hurting - dealing with sickness, disability, financial hardship, and mostly confined to bed and couch. If I were in your position, I wouldn't return to a home with mold. You might lose some belongings, but preserving your health is far more important than risking illness from black mold.
Nice overview of something that has been overlooked. I enjoyed what the fellow from Ground Zero Grace said," Beautiful things don't come out of beautiful things...". His view on hardship, loss, and disaster being the seeds of beautiful things really seems true. Thank you.
What a heartwarming view of the Helene destruction and the amazing humans who banded together to help each other among the chaos. So many videos, but THIS one > PRIMO! Sharing.
Greetings from Germany. Thank you Project Atticus for lending your prestige to these people in need and highlighting , through your story telling, the amazing spirt of America. Can they rebuild? Yes they can!
I’ve lived in East Tennessee as an avid outdoorsman my entire adult life so, the Southern Appalachia region, along with its people, are monumentally important to me and my family! And thus to Desiree & Jordan I say THANK YOU! Thank you for using your exceptional filmmaking and storytelling skills to broadcast the continuing needs of this area, and to showcase what the best of humanity along with loving thy neighbor truly looks like! You guys are the Best! Love ya…mean it!!! 🫶🏼
It will rebuild. It may take years, but it will happen. I lived through Katrina on the Mississippi gulf coast. For months afterwards, I would look around and think, "How can this place ever be rebuilt to what it used to be?" Well, 19 years later, it is rebuilt, different in many ways, but still rebuilt. It just takes time. A whole lot of time.
When you stopped sailing, I wondered if I could hang with your channel. I’m a sailor and that’s what interested me in your story, your pacific seacraft, and your family. But this episode is by far my very favorite Atticus episode of all time. Thank you for bringing the story to us in such a succinct, professional way, and letting us know where and how we can help. I lived in NC for many years and the Smoky Mountains are near and dear to me. My heart breaks for those people, but their story of resilience resonates as well. I’m going to go donate right now and I will mention you in my donation. Thank you.
Thank you for highlighting the cooperation, gumption and can-do spirit that flows in the wake of the storm. I live in Asheville and your video is spot on in highlighting the needs and the incredible amount of cooperation and rebuilding that is happening all around the region.
Team, even compared to the wonderful locations you have traveled, this is the most beautiful video you have ever produced by highlighting the human spirit.
Thank you so very much for this video. It is so wonderful to see how Americans have come to help North Carolina. It was marvelous how the devastated locals helped each other; then outsiders came to help. This is so overwhelming. I’m a retired American in Bolivia. I have nothing, I rent an apartment for $100 a month. But I have personally observed how earthquakes destroyed an entire town in Peru. Yes, water was sent in afterwards, but still the entire destroyed town had to rebuild everything all on their own. It is so heartwarming to see Americans helping Americans. It will take a long time.
I'm sorry that you had to experience the earthquake in Peru. Experiencing a natural disaster is traumatizing and like you said, it's overwhelming. I can't imagine having to rebuild an entire city, especially wo help. I live in Florida and my neighborhood flooded a lot during Helene. I got lucky during Milton but I was very worried before it happened that I wouldn't be ok because I live exactly where Milton went. Last night I went to a restaurant for takeout for the first time since both hurricanes and it was a really big deal to do something so "normal". I believe that everyone around here has PTSD and it wouldn't surprise me if your city and you also have PTSD. Hope that makes sense. Cheers to you from the US. :)
I love that people were able to get down to the area with water and supplies and manpower... Thanking God for his mercy and for touching people to help financially
Beautiful episode Jordan & family! As a North Carolinian myself, I thank you for shining a light on this area, it's devastation & showing that you can't keep this great NC area & it's ppl down. Your effort, through your video, will be a blessing. North Carolina ppl are some of the most resilient, loving, friendly, & hard working ppl in this country. Maybe you should consider NC as a future home 😊. Ya'll would be a great addition to our great state.
I saw a huge contingent from your state doing search and rescue and passed their convoy a few weeks ago looking like they were finally getting to go home. So many states have sent aid it’s been overwhelmingly positive given how polarized the country has become. Thank you from WNC.
Jordan and Desiree, thank you for bringing us this news. Because of it, we donated to the charity and both go fund me links. Let's hope those affected by this incredibly destructive storm can resume their normal lives as soon as possible.
Hey Raft Guide Lady.... getting a bunch of high schoolers together and successfully navigate the wilderness without losing anyone is definitely a skill! You all rock! Much love and well wishes from the West Coast.
Thank you for bringing us this story. Im in Sarasota and people here had a lot of damage. But nothing like what NC has endured. Very heartwarming to see people helping each other.
Absolutely EXCELLENT episode! I literally just sat down with a cup of coffee and said to my husband. I wish the news would give us up dates on what is going on now in NC. Then I click on RUclips and there was your video! Excellent information the whole video and the woman that sharing the most was amazing telling the story. You guys have to do some follow up videos as time goes on. Thank you so much for sharing. You should be very proud of this one. I’m sharing this one with everyone.
Thanks for sharing. The community coming together to help one another out was inspiring. We saw the same thing in Lahaina after the fires. I made a donation.
Great story telling J&D. I’m acting on the links to help support the community. I knew you were close to ground zero during the storm, being one hour away from the center of devastation was like dodging a bullet. Continued best wishes to you all.
We had some damage here in Tennessee also, but nothing like theses people have had. They were at ground zero! You did good with this video, good job! yall be safe.
Amazing reporting. Thank you for sharing this with us. What an eye opener! So awesome to see people come together to support and help each other so unselfishly.
Your story telling ability during your travels served you well in relating to the flood and hardship that these folks have experienced. I knew your film school background would someday prove invaluable! I’m sure the Asheville news media will be contacting you for your journalistic skills!
We started watching you because of your sailing....and we will miss that part. But we are so looking forward to what your future holds. This episode is truly one of your best. We all need to take a moment....to realize how blessed we are.
Thank you for making this video. This is my home area. When I first started watching You two and a small tiny boat, I never in 1 million years. Thought you would be right here in my back door helping my neighbors y’all are just too cool and thank you. !
I’m your neighbor in Hendo. I’m going to be crocheting hats and scarves for the needy to bring some warmth and comfort. Cold weather is coming. If anyone knits or crochets, that would help someone. We just got our main road passable.
Your channel was getting lost but now I think you have found your way again. Spend the winter in Ashville because the media has forgotten it. You have a voice and you have lots of mechanical and construction skills to contribute and your channel is your job. Great work on this. Now we want to watch you again Paul
Jordan - you are such talented story teller! How interesting that you guys decided to sell the boat, moved back to land and now doing this - such meaningful work. Isabella and her siblings will be so proud of her parents when they are looking back at this! And Desiree - pregnant and all... you are amazing!!
This is the most vivid and comprehensive account of Helene's devastation that I have seen. I've always appreciated your ability to craft a compelling narrative and vivid visual content. And here you have put your skills to such excellent use. I had been wondering how you were affected by Helene since we knew you had been exploring northern Georgia, not so far away. Happy to hear that you came through unscathed and most appreciative of your efforts to get the word out. Thank you!
Of course you guys went to pitch in and document the damage and protection and renewal efforts, omg thank you for your service. Not me sitting here on a Saturday morning just crying at witnessing the pain and beauty of being human. 😭😘🥰
Jordan my wife and I have been following you for years. This week's video was my favorite of all time. It was better than anything I have seen on national media. Thanks. I will be donating to one of these organizations. Love you and your family!
What a revelation, wonderful people, sharing the real story. Huge admiration to Megan for describing. I'm in awe at those who have travelled from near and far, have organised materials and skills. Particularly impressive is the company who brought their resources in to reconstruct the road. This is the resilience, the responsibility which is vital. Government, state, insurance are in it for different reasons. Who delivers when it matters? Thanks Jordan and Desiree for bringing this to your channel. Things are tricky for me but have contributed a little to each.
Jordan and Desiree, I have been so worried about where ya’ll were when the storm hit because your last video, you were in that area and I didn’t know time wise when the video was made! I live in the Upstate of SC and we got hit (loss of trees, power and internet) but nothing like the area of NC that you visited. Thank you for using your incredible video skills to make this important video. So cool that ya’ll went to help and met so many people. Even living as close as I do, I was not aware of what was going on there. Thank you for your channel and for filming your amazing life - selfishly hoping you stay somewhere in the Southeast ❤️
Beautiful kind people. Know that whatever life throws at you, there are people out there willing to help. There is no you & I, there is only us. Crisis brings up together, but we are always stronger together.💪. Stay safe out there everyone & help people in need, be it a natural disaster, or personal tragedy ~ kindness goes a long way in this world of ours. ❤
Amazing video Jordan! We’re up in Nova Scotia and have had more than our share of hurricanes. The destruction caused by these storms is heart breaking but the relief effort really restores your faith in humanity. Thanks for putting the focus on what’s truly important. Terrific video!
Living through the destruction of Harvey I can relate to the devastation, my heart goes out to those who were affected, praying for the domestic and wild animals too.
Great episode. Thanks for sharing this story. Worth repeating...Out of difficult times, good things happen. Hopefully, this episode will encourage your viewing family to contribute to the relief effort you've highlighted in this video.
Great job on telling their story! It's important that people do not forget the victims of hurricane Helena now that it has been over a month since the storm has passed. I'm going to donate to all three charities today as well as sharing the video on my Facebook page. God bless you!
Great video. To see such community, support, love and hope in the middle of a heartbreaking disaster is uplifting. Thank you for telling their stories and letting us know how to best help them.
Great work you two getting this message out . I am in Australia and we have some mad weather and fires here and its always great to see everyone getting in and helping it happens here as well just goes to show there are still great people in the world.
Thank you for getting ahead of yourselves and going to Ashville to do this episode. It's nice to see that everyone banded together and are just taking care of it, and accepting the help being given, and just tearing into the work. I've seen several other interviews and places of operation that just jumped in and took on the responsibility of helping the communities, and they aren't from anywhere around. From disaster relief organizations to Green Berets, and seal teams that have set up air drop areas for relief aid, even after being told by Gov reps not to. Gov needs to remember that they work for us, we direct them, and thank you for your support but we live here and know what's needed now. Glad you did this.
I am so thankful to see what love looks like in living color. Oneness and unity is powerful when people come together and dig deep into the essence of their soul. Awe is so Beautiful!
Insurance companies are denying claims left and right in the mountains because they didn't have the right type of insurance for this once in a millennium event. Many have lost everything and will get absolutely zero financial help. Donations of funds directly to those families is the absolute best thing you can do. Thank you from WNC.
Jordan, what a fantastic segment! Better than any national news media coverage. What to me stands out is the positive attitude that Megan and the people there have, and it’s not about what the government is not doing, its about the community. Kudos to you for sharing their story!
I wish I was closer so I could help, but thank you for your help! I couldn’t imagine the devastating impact this has had!. I’m Praying for all those affected.
Thank you for actually talking about this. I have been so weirded out by all of the sailing channels and other RUclips channels I watch because they have not mentioned what happened in North Carolina once. It just shows how real you two are.
why would a sailing channel mention NC Hurricane Helene when they have nothing to do with it! So you are implying that people in other Sailing You Tube channels are not real? Project Atticus just so happened to be in the area. Do you actually think a sailing channel currently outside the USA would stop what they are doing to report on this, fly to NC and make a video? While devastating, people do have various priorities such as getting their yacht off a reef, which could be equally devastating, and they were focused on their yacht (HOME) not a hurricane on the other side of the planet. And yes the video was well done, and I follow various sailing channels
Jorden thank you for sharing this episode. I live in Central NC and although I was not personally impacted by the storm that area of my state will be decades recovering. Places that I have visited out there are gone. Praying that the Mountain state of mind will sustain them, and the support will continue to help them rebuild.

You guys are awesome, well done for helping out. Wishing everyone a full recovery, beautiful how people are coming together for each other ❤
Beautiful kind people. ❤
Thank you Jordan -listening to this woman explain how the community came together. Absolutely amazing how they made it through. God Bless them all!!
Amazing video Jordan! We’re up in Nova Scotia and have had more than our share of hurricanes. The destruction caused by these storms is heart breaking but the relief effort really restores your faith in humanity. Thanks for putting the focus on what’s truly important. Terrific video!
I started following you guys about 8 months ago..I live in Asheville and it warms my heart to see ya’ll coming this way to help our amazing community.
Living through the destruction of Harvey I can relate to the devastation, my heart goes out to those who were affected, praying for the domestic and wild animals too.
Praise God! Thank You for helping!!! God bless you all!!! 🙏
True Heroes at work - great video
Excellent job, WNC is where I grew up and it is heartbreaking. Thank you for doing such a great job telling this story
Thank you for sharing their stories. It's such a sad circumstance but beautiful to see all the help and support.
The children singing made me cry. Its beautiful how resilient people are. ❤ So much love from Texas.
Jorden thank you for sharing this episode. I live in Central NC and although I was not personally impacted by the storm that area of my state will be decades recovering. Places that I have visited out there are gone. Praying that the Mountain state of mind will sustain them, and the support will continue to help them rebuild.
