    This is what WGI Winds should sound like.

    WGI Winds is going to be great for the marching arts. Finally a way to express all instrumentation and build skill all year round.

    The artistic possibilities of this genre are so exciting! With a much more intimate space, a lot less worry about lack of environmental control (rehearsals and performances), and much more, I'm really looking forward to seeing what they come up with!

    Wow this can be so exciting! As a wind player fortunate enough to do indoor drumline I loved the exposure it gave me and it can have great potential for regular marching ensembles on a small scale

    Love how we are worlds away geographically but people literally fly across the world to compete in DCI and WGI. The impact of DCI / WGI reaches far. Such an amazing thing

    If this is going to happen no percussion or guard involved in WGI winds. Otherwise is just indoor band.. This isn't BOA.

    Wicked cool, will allow wind players to compete seriously in the off-season and will call for more creativity in the drill and movement for horn players in both WGI and DCI

      This is true. Reverberations in an indoor environment is definitely a determining factor with everything from a musical standpoint.

    This is NOT the future of Drum Corps. It may be the future of a indoor band competition. Notice how the woodwinds all but disappear as soon as the brass starts to play.

    • @TonyPerez816
      @TonyPerez816 10 лет назад +6

      Having watched this live each time they performed that weekend, I can tell you the woodwinds contributed to the sound significantly. No matter how good the recording is, it has not been perfected yet and is obviously a first time recording Winds. Just like any other musical activity, Live is WAY different than the recording.

  • @KayskolA
    @KayskolA 10 лет назад +1

    Not sure about this. I know it's a good thing and includes all marching performers now, but I know a lot of percussionists who feel like their invading turf. Hopefully they can make it seem more like a separate entity just like how guard and percussive indoor shows are different. Excited but nervous. :)

    • @ghyprh
      @ghyprh 10 лет назад +9

      Fun fact: Percussion invaded the color guard's turf first lol.

    • @Skutieos7
      @Skutieos7 10 лет назад

      shows with just percussion are generally boring. this is coming from a percussionist. (of course, just my opinion.)

    • @ecksluss
      @ecksluss 10 лет назад

      Skutieos7 shows with just percussion are absolutely fantastic. This coming from a percussionist as well. Have you never watched Blast! Or Rhythm X or Pulse Percussion? Anything but boring. Then there's the concert percussion side with groups like Amadinda percussion and various top university percussion ensembles.
      Just another side to the opinion.

      What about Avon or Dartmouth in 2014?

    • @Skutieos7
      @Skutieos7 10 лет назад

      Avon 2014 was admittedly awesome. I hate to come off the wrong way, I love WGI, but after you sit there and watch 10+ shows in a row, it starts to sound all the same. Some groups do not put enough effort into general effect or just pushing the envelope with their performances in general. Since WGI is all about artistic display, I believe the winds division is a step in the right direction as it opens up many more options musically.

    This is literally like a high school field show and I'm saying high school because winds and majorettes are in it.I don't think they should've made winds a section for WGI.

    I agree I think WGI is going to far. Plus it is going to be hard to find percussionists/ guard members to do this. We have an indoor all to ourselves, why would we share.

    This is a cool idea.
    But in my opinion, I strongly feel that guard and percussion should not be a part of the performance. Then it just becomes mini-marching band.
    Prop manipulation would be alright, though.

      Do you see percussion instruments creating main melodic lines in Winter Guard shows?
      Do you see anyone not playing a percussion instrument int Percussion shows?
      Why should we see Guard and Percussion in a Wind show?

    • @jomloft1
      @jomloft1 9 лет назад +4

      patrickguyum as a former participant, and current instructor with a percussion group, It is my experience that from a moving show, judges want to see a story, and not just hear music. Colorguard can do a great job of adding that to a show. Also, facial expressions do a great deal of conveying emotion that adds to a show. This year the group I assist jumped in score in our local circuit and the only changes we made were to get all of the kids into it. I can see where with a winds only ensemble, it would be difficult to show facial expression while playing because the bells of instruments block the view of the performers' faces.
      Also, percussion helps out with keeping the tempo. Winds only project in one direction, the stands, which the performers than hear on a delay. This is why in outdoor, everyone should listen back to the drumline, and play with what is behind them, so that their music is added in time, and the audience will hear everything at once. For indoor, mallets or a snare drum will project downwards and rebound off of the floor, giving a higher likelyhood that performers behind them will be in tempo with the ensemble.
