  • This is my review of the Turtle Beach VelocityOne Flight Stick I go through the VelocityOne features, build quality, and who it's most suited for, and with the likes of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 just around the corner. Is this a great entry into the world of flight simulation?
    The Turtle Beach VelocityOne Stick is compatible with quite a few flight sims and flying games like MSFS, DCS, Ace Combat, X-Plane, War Thunder & more. This review centers around MSFS but was also tested in Warthunder and X-Plane.

      I think this review is more geared towards those just getting in to simulation. At this stage people can be put off by the vast array of flight sim products and the expense. This review highlights that all you need to start is a stick like this.

    As a VR user, I wish it had a larger track pad instead of the display on it. I'd be making any stick-specific adjustments in its software before starting up the sim in VR, and I'd get a TON of use out of an integrated trackpad in sim. Blindly grabbing for my mouse is one of two gripes I have with my current setup.

    The spring modification is an absolute must. So much more minor precision at center, and it doesnt pull the base around (as much).
    I cut mine literally in half. Put the flat end facing up and the bare point facing down toward the plate. Still holds dead center, but its so incredibly easy to make minor inputs. If you dont like snipping a spring, you could just buy a shorter, or softer spring of equivalent diameter.

    I would highly recommend this for flying any GA style aircraft which natively would use a stick. The central detent from my actual flying experience feels good as most of the time you are only moving the stick a few degrees in each direction. Works well for gliders too. This would be a brilliant option as a first flight controller as it covers everything.
    A joystick mount is a must to use the stick but other than that, it's very good.

    I've heard the centering mechanism is bad. It is exactly opposite of the high-tier stick like Virpil. The linearity is upside-down. Common stick has increasing centering force with increasing deflection and with very low centering force at detent. Turtle Beach has very strong detent and the with increasing deflection the force is reducing.

    This stick has 2 big problems. One is the stiffness, which can be fixed (as others said). The other one is the very small movement angle of the stick. And that can't be fixed. Compared to my old Thrustmaster stick, the Velocity One has almost half the movement. This just feels bad if you are used to a good flight stick with a proper movement angle. It simply can't have the same precision if you need only half the stick movement for the same movement in the sim. I tried the Velocity One stick and returned it immediately. It has very nice features, but unfortunately that's all worthless if the stick fails completely in the most important points: Comfort/ feeling and precision. In my opinion a complete misconstruction.

      @@g-locmedia Unfortunately, no. However, the internals of the Ursa are an exact copy of the VKB NXT, making it a no-brainer at the price of $120-almost half the price of the VKB. It's far superior to anything Turtle Beach has to offer. I have preordered a set of Ursas to compare with my VKB and Virpil. I will probably give them away on our Star Citizen ORG Discord afterward.

    Xbox simmers don’t have much choice !! Nobody is giving us the controller choices pc users get. If we got better choices some of us would be more than just casual !

    • @g-locmedia
      @g-locmedia  4 месяца назад +1

      Unfortunately I don't see this changing much. I see X-BOX as a gateway for some simmers that will eventually move to PC for a deeper experience as the sheer volume of peripherals available for PC is astounding. A lot of this is because of x-box licensing issues.

      Bro, consoles suck so bad. I've gamed since Caleco Vision/Magnavox era. Pong days! I've had every console except dreamcast. After all these years of being a console gamer on old machines to the newer ones (specifically PS1 through PS5 when PS was released) I realized and got sick of being held back. Yes a PC will cost a bit more always but the fact that you can upgrade as you go through the years makes the cost much more effective. Not only getting a full 100% gaming experience with all the bells and whistles that consoles never have and never will offer. Mod support is off the chain.
      I just, a little over a month ago, gave my PS5 to my younger brother (28yrs old) and got a PC. I used to own PCs but never for gaming, just programming and graphic design. But this time I went all out and spent way too much money. I will be using the PC for game design/3d rendering and animations so I had to go big or go home but I will also be able to run any game at the best specs possible as well. You don't have to have the best of the best to game though unless your budget affords it I guess.
      The point is. Save for a relatively decent gaming PC and you'll never go back to consoles lmbo.
