    As a lefty I got the gladitor nxt a year or two ago, as they are one of the few entry level premium joysticks at the time, that do lefthanded versions

    Use 'command strips' on the base allow removal and are quite strong enough to allow for forceful 'combat' movements of the stick - also can peel off with no marking of the plastic at a later date.

    Returned this as 2 main issues. 1. Couldn’t get throttle to work in several games (eg ED) and 2. Its way too stiff. Shame as really nice to grip and use.

    • @SimUKReviews
      @SimUKReviews  5 месяцев назад

      Yeah, the stiffness would reduce over time, but the restricted length of action combined with the stiffness was my breaking point. Nearly the perfect little joystick.

      VKB Gladiator NXT EVO comes with 3 different spring strengths for X and Y axis movements with dampeners to reduce spring oscillations while returning to center. Just got mine today to replace my V1 stick and it's absolutely a no brainer upgrade for a little more MSRP price plus shipping. For the ministick module like the one on the V1, it's only on the Premium version

    Wish they had 3 axis on the base and put them all on the left side so no over reaching. Great on the go stick I added a simple Hikig desk mount that goes anywhere as well with my STEAM Deck. bought that Velocity Flight Deck and returned it as the joystick started shorting out during Project Wingman, no good. Ordered a VKB EVO and STECS MAX, cant wait for it!

    • @SimUKReviews
      @SimUKReviews  3 месяца назад +1

      Yeah, problem is they were trying to make it ambidextrous.
      Shame you had issues, it is nearly a great stick.

      @@SimUKReviews yes sir I agree. I enjoyed the stick and liked the options. But once it failed, I decided to go on the VKB direction.

    Whilst as general entry level stick, for basic GA fixed wing aircraft flying on XBox, the TB V1 stick is decent value... buyer should beware if planning to use for anything else - especially for helicopters.
    The worst issue (other than the trackpad which can easily be disabled) is actually the throttle sensitivity - or rather the lack of responsiveness. From idle position to reaction, you need to move the throttle ~15-20%.
    This is not usually a significant issue when flying a fixed wing aircraft... but makes the device unsuitable for collective control in a helicopter.
    Compared to the throttle axes on the TB V1 yoke, the Thrustmaster airbus quadrant, or even the Thrustmaster Hotas One (for which build quality and precision is not exactly something it is renowned for), this is particularly noticeable, making hovering, maneuvering, flying at a consistent height, or controlled landings more a matter of luck than of skill.
    As such, and particularly as there is no standalone throttle quadrant available for xbox (all those above and others of which I have no direct experience) can only be connected to the xbox through the stick / yoke with which they are bundled; I would recommend extreme caution before purchasing this for xbox, especially considering the issues with respect to stick stiffness which make it even more challenging to use for helicopter control. Possibly if TB ever do get round to producing a connectable Xbox compatible throttle quadrant (which has been rumored, but not announced officially) then this may change the situation somewhat.
    IMO, for helii control on the xbox, the most suitable device is the "Thrustmaster TCA Captain Pack X Airbus Edition" which generally retails for ~£250 but can sometimes be sourced for ~£200. Otherwise you are better off with the TM Hotas one (despite its terrible build quality)
    On the PC, there is much more choice, not too far from this price point... and whilst the TB V1 may look flashier and have more gimmicks, you can't fly an aircraft with gimmicks - so I would sugest that it's much better to get something which does not suffer from the compromises which this device does.
    I own this device, the TBV1F Yoke & rudder pedals, an old and much abused / broken / repaired TM Hotas One, and have had direct comparative feedback within group flights with a friend who used to own this device and has upgraded to the "Thrustmaster TCA Captain Pack X Airbus Edition". Our experience with this V1 stick is one of disappointment, especially when it comes to use for Helicopter flight... which is specifically why I purchased it in addition to my other devices... and as such cannot recommend.

      Ha, well, from what I understand, that's a whole other level of skill required to flying a helicopter on FS!
      Unfortunately I'm limited to Xbox for now (under the evidentially flawed premise that this will keep my Sim spending in check... which when I add up the cost of all my Sim peripherals, it's getting close to 3 times the xbox itself... although that's probably still considerably less than wha I would have spent on PC and peripherals!) - but DCS has always tweaked my interest if I ever get a gaming PC...

    I have the Gladiator NXT EVO stick coupled with the GNX WWII Throttle and while they are great bits of kit, they never come with a default profile, so all the set up is a pain in the ass ( the throttle quadrant shares the same buttons with the joystick ) I would just like something more plug and play. This stick you review just might work for me for msfs. Great review

      The buttons need to be set in VKB's software first before assigning them in game. Make sure you flash it with the proper driver in bootloader and then click Default to begin assigning separate buttons and calibrating the axis to work properly in games. Yes it's a bit of a learning curve but VKB's software is very powerful to configure compared to most apps that are available from other brands. Even for just casual simming, the NXT is still amazing for having many buttons and axis to replace your keyboard and mouse bindings.
