  • I test the stock Bose subwoofer from my 2011 mazda 3! How loud can it go?
    Sub is dual 2 ohm, roughly 80w RMS, 6.5", tuned to around 40Hz, not a bad unit!
    Tested using SSA APM X
    Results! (spoilers)
    Music (Unoptimised) - 116.23dB (52Hz)
    Sub in spare wheel - 120.26dB (55Hz)
    Port facing corner - 120.05dB (52Hz)
    Gained 4dB going from music at max volume to tones and optimised interior.

    I've got this sub hooked up in my VW Polo & I've got to say it's pretty amazing, perfectly fitted under my boot floor with the spare tire underneath & it shakes my mirror 😂 You can only hear at the deepest notes it's lacking a tad as the drivers are so small, other than that for the price I paid I'm dead impressed

      Quick update, I've had it hooked up to a high end sony unit, an alpine unit and recently a new pioneer unit, with the pioneer it's even more punchy and clear, would recommend getting one with the inbuilt amp!

      @@FIetch2002 can you share a little more about your installation? Did you connect the dual voice coils in series (4-ohm), or in parallel (2-Ohm). What amp rating are you using, will you please share the model? I am getting ready to install this same unit and I am looking to size the amp.

    I would LOVE to get an SSA meter for my theater. I have a standard SPL meter but it only goes up to 130, everything above that just reads "Hi" (hello!) so that can be annoying when trying to see where my theater currently is. But you hit the nail on the head, $400+ is a lot of money just to see how loud something is once or twice then have it collect dust. If I were into car audio (especially comps) I'd own one.

      @@speakertester.1861 HAHAHA! I believe that, at the frequencies where my theater is hitting those big DB numbers, it's low enough to where it's not going to cause any issues. It's not like I'm hitting 130dB @ 500Hz, this is more like 130dB @ 18Hz.

      Said no one who has ever heard an actual sub in real life. Nice try at attempting to make us laugh. It’s settling for low standards like this is how an abomination like this exists in the first place. Everyone gives it a polite pity “niiice…..(?)” and hopes no one looks them in the eye when they say it. Just be honest. It’s an insult to 200hz-20hz and made baby Jesus cry and shit his Bby lord golden-divine-kid-Christ diaper.. with divine turds of shameful disappointment. Showered in painful darkness of a chubby cherubs double chin shaking as he farts holy gas of mocking laughter.

    Just got my rsx and the sub doesn't do anything. What are the first steps I do to figure out why

    • @Dakoustics
      @Dakoustics  2 года назад

      (Assuming its a stock sub)
      First step is get a multimeter, check the resistance of the sub to make sure its resistance is what it should be. Very low could be a short, and might've damaged the amp also. Very high/no measurement could also be a dead sub, or loose wire.
      Check to see if the wires to the sub are delivering voltage, get a 40Hz tone, set it to loop, crank the gain, should see a few volts. If there's nothing, could be either the amp/head unit, or the wires between the amp and head unit. Can also check the resistance of the wires to the amp, but make sure it's turned off. Should give an indication if something is loose.

    • @Dakoustics
      @Dakoustics  3 года назад

      For deep, a big box is a good start. Something like 70L/sub, so 140L/5 cu ft total. A port with an area of 12x3", and a length of 2'. Comes out to a tuning of 26Hz, should be quite capable of lows. If you want lower, longer port.

    Yeah from my own Nissan 08 the alternator is very strong. 130amp I think stock. Kicks on at a low 600 rpms. So way lower then even idle.
    So it's only a slight difference if your driving with all electronics on and punch the gas. It does help and gets louder. But for the most part it needs no extra rpm to actuat the alternator.
    It's yes sad if you've ever owned installed subs. Or know what your doing and installed them. But not bad honestly. I don't even understand how a 4 inch cone can produce 50 hertz. But it does. Way to go Bose.
    Also the front 6x9 also get to about 43 hertz low. But they don't have a highpass or low pass and I've kinda burned mine a bit. I smelt it quickly enough so they still bump. But man that cheap hfp is worth it Nissan.

    • @Dakoustics
      @Dakoustics  3 года назад +1

      Yeah, basically the same story as my home theatre sub vs random car sub. 4 6" midbass speakers have the same surface area as a single 12" subwoofer, and since the bose sub is responsible for everything ~90Hz down, from a single 6" driver in a ~5L ported box, it's just too small. Kinda pointless, too. A for effort, D for performance. Horn kicks its ass lmao.

    What ohms is the dvc spare tire subwoofer? It’s from a 2010-2013 Mazda, no internal amp. I wired it to my kicker amp and it works well, just curious on the specs just in case

    • @Dillon1791
      @Dillon1791 11 месяцев назад

      I just wired the same Bose woofer from a 2013 Mazda 3 hatch (100 watt DVC, 1ohm 5.11" woofer, no internal amp) in my 1994 Acura Vigor, placed in the spare tire well and wired to my Phoenix Gold 800.5 amp, with a 300 watt rms @ 2ohm or 400 watt rms @ 2 ohm rating. I'm way over stressing my amp with that 1ohm load and over powering the sub by a few hundred watts but MAAANNN does it hit nice for a tiny sub. Gain is at 0, bass boost is at 0, HPF is at about 75hz. The Bose enclosure is doing some magic for the small driver for sure but it already sounds much better than my Kicker truck cab sub+box I had in it.
      I plan to replace the Bose woofer with a Skar 6.5" sub that can match my amp and handle the power properly, hoping it and the Bose enclosure will play nice together.

    80w r.m.s.? I thought it was 100w r.m.s for single voice coil and 50w r.m.s x2 (100w total) for the dual voice coil.

    • @Dakoustics
      @Dakoustics  3 года назад

      I didn't know the power figures, estimated it at 80w, I think I measured the sub DC Re of 2.5 ohms, and 10v in, so that'd be 4 amps at 10v per coil, or 2x40w. Honestly can't remember what the exact numbers were now, but at the time I was more confident on 80w than 100w.

      Well it does come with a built-in amplifier and a high pass. I've owned 2 ported 12"s so it's not as deep in the chest. It doesn't move through you. But honestly I'm impressed. Mine cuts out at roughly 35hrz.
      If space a decent sound is your goal 👍. If heart thumping bass is your goal. 👎

    I can believe they put a dash speaker in the spare and had the nerve to call it a “woofer” AND charge $200+ for that glorified infant dinnerware item of a “speaker”. They are true criminals, and should be ashamed of themselves. I think they were %100 making a joke and no one in that meeting got it.
