Wow tarnished hardware is my number one deterrent for buying vintage thanks for this! I’m tempted to 24k plate the gold hardware on my new classic flap now lol.

This was super informative! I myself have exact the same problem, a Duma with oxidesed HW that has to be replated.
Now here my SA said it was no problem to bring the bag in Chanel to have it fixed.
HOWEVER i did NOT know they don't send it to Paris to the atelier but use a local craftsman...
Makes me very anxcious...🥺

Good to know about the two tones hardware ! I have a duma backpack ( shuuuuut still have to reveal it lol ) and when a friend of mine saw it she asked if the bag wasn’t fake ? Because of the strap mat color 🤔 Thank you so much to confirm that I was right !!!!! 💕🤣🤌🏼 the bag is legit ! But after knowing this ? You still wanted to replate it ? 🥺 continuing to watch ... 🍿
Looking forward to seeing your gorgeous Duma on IG :) Although it’s not ideal, I have contacted every luxury repairer in Australia and NONE can replate. So I’ve decided not to be too picky - 24k shiny gold replating is a much better option than being stuck with tarnished matte GHW. Hopefully you may have more options with your local repairers...otherwise you may have to make the same choice as me in future!
Absolutely stunning comparisons! I've contacted leather surgeons for repairs on my newly purchased pre-owned Prada galleria double zip large. Hoping they have a reputation with Prada.

@@cmk7585 They did confirm repairs on Prada. Sent in my bag in, 2 weeks later repair complete. In the Galleria or Saffiano Lux line there are snaps in the middle ends of the bag to allow expansion. Where the seams meet the zipper in the corners were worn/popped. They did sew back parts they could and used glue in areas they couldn't unless you deconstruct the bag. I immediately noticed the glue separated from the seams while the stitching held.

Your bag looks fantastic. I have seen several videos of their restoration work and they seem to be very impressive. The Chanel after service sounds as bad as Louis Vuitton who, I didn’t realise until I took a bag in for repair, have no warranty. When I paid a huge amount for it I really wasn’t expecting that.
Hi Suzanne always good to see you! Wow thanks for sharing that information about LV (lack of) warranty, i had no idea! But then again, warranty doesn't mean much if the repair service is limited or not very effective. Hopefully LV service is of a higher standard than Chanel's? I hope they repaired/replaced your bag free of charge!
@@cmk7585 No. They said all they could do was paint over the surface of the leather on the spot it was rubbed off and it would cost $270 and take 10-12 weeks. I said no, that was outrageous for about a 2 inch square of paint. I have been planning to take it to Royal Bag Spa in Melbourne but then covid happened so I haven't done it yet. I don't know what the service is like in the Collins Street store but in Chadstone it was terrible and I will never be going back there.
So sorry to hear that, what a nightmare! And i presume your bag was relatively new when the damage happened since it should have qualified for warranty? (If LV had that policy) Have you tried contacting Evans in Melbourne too? Safe to say you likely won't purchase LV again!
It was relatively new, just over a year old, and I was really shocked when the surface of the leather started peeling off near one corner as I have never had a bag that developed corner wear before. I always find that the strap is the first thing to go. I had heard somebody on RUclips say that LV have a two year warranty but in Chadstone the SA told me they don’t have any, just 30 days return.
I didn’t think of Evans, although I should have as I used to get my shoes repaired there when I worked in the city.
I have been using LV SLGs for many years and never had a problem with them. I suspect that the quality has slipped badly in the past 10 years or so. I have only one that is relatively new and that is doing fine so far. I probably won’t be buying any more though as they are now outside my price range. When one finally wears out I will look at YSL and Gucci instead.

wow i'm surprised that the replaced "back plaque" had the "chanel" and "paris" on it. Do you know, or did they clarify that they are an "official chanel service center" or how do they get authentic chanel parts? And Yes, our USPS (and all other shipping services) really suck! even in non-covid times, simple shipments can take forever. I can't wait to watch your next month's video! Good to see you again! For this bag, all hardware was replated by Leather Surgeons, not replaced as Chanel had wrongly suggested. Or perhaps it was a convenient excuse for Chanel to refuse servicing my bag since - like you've mentioned - it raises the tricky topic of how to source authentic vintage parts. The reason your shipping time back took so long could have been because of the holiday season.
According to my tracking log, my bag sat for 3 weeks at JFK Airport, New York :( My mother-in-law works for Australia Post and mentioned that this was common all around the world - the low volume of international flights meant international parcels by air were subject to a significant backlog. Hopefully the situation is better now!
