Leather Surgeons are absolutely the masters of restoration. The craftsmanship is just Supreme. I purchased a Chanel jumbo Maxi for $650 which I will have restored very soon. I already have an estimate and once it's done the total cost of the bag and the restoration will be just slightly above $1,000 for a jumbo Maxi with Gold Hardware. I'm just over the moon from buying this bag for the price I did and having it restored soon for a very good price.

I have a mini that is from the 80’s that was in fabulous co diction when I got it so I didn’t need to restore it. I love the vintage vibe of yours. Future purchase😉

Hi! I hv the same bag, same size. It was my moms from early 90’s. Its in great shape, with a few scratches here n there. The edge of the front flap can use some dying etc. im gonna ask for a quote thanks to ur review! Your bag looks brand new now! Tfs 🤩

What would be the lowest price vintage bag you would consider refurbishing with leather surgeons? In other words if the bag you purchased was a not very costly one would you still refurbish it? Was your Chanel double flap more than a thousand, I would guess that around that amount I would be somewhat motivated to have it refurbished. Thanks in advance for your response.
I personally love to find a great deal and when I found a chanel single flap single strap vintage pushlock bag in medium I just had to buy it, it cost $650,that is the most I have paid for a bag,but considering it is Chanel it's a decent price,so the condition was great on the outside,what was in poor condition was the inside lining and the pushlock,so I sent it to leather surgeons and what they did is change the pushlock to a classic turnlock that goes with your bag's date code,for all this they charged $385,so pretty much it's around $1000, but they send it to you almost as if it's new,they can fix pretty much anything,so it is worth to find a deal on a Chanel bag that is in poor condition.

Wow! I just purchased a vintage Chanel small double flap! Yay! Now I need to send mine to Leather Surgeons ! I am waiting for a quote. I want mine dyed a deep black (it is black currently but it's faded and dull) however I was told by Gerry that for Chanel, they use something that they created and it is similar to paint. I found that odd that they would not use a dye since the dye will penetrate in the leather. Was yours painted by them? If so, how did it feel afterwards? Was it stiff and rough or does it still feel somewhat soft? The overall bag I have is in very good condition. I just want the bag colored to a deep black with a nice sheen. Eager to get your reply. Mine is lamb skin and it was it bad shape when it got to them. There is a slight difference in the texture of the bag but nothing too different if that makes sense. It isn't as butter as original. They did a great job restoring my bag and it even had a tear in it that they were able to hide perfectly. I would just wait if you are happy with it. I love vintage Chanels there is just something special about them! Congrats on your new bag! 😀

Good to know your bag did not feel too different after they worked on your bag. So they actually painted your bag black, or did they just spa and conditioned it and fixed the damage? I'm happy with my purchase but I will not use it the way it looks now. It is too flat and matte black looking. It is mainly the flap. I'm eager to get it dyed or "painted" so I can use it. I just want to make sure I know what to expect BEFORE I send it off to them. I hope they are able to dye lambskin a nice deep rich black that has a sheen. Also I do not want to worry about the leather drying out or cracking over time because it was painted vs dyed. I want to do my own maintenance on my bag afterwards. I take care of all my bags myself. They all look well kepted. If I had this vintage bag when it was new, today, 30 yrs later, it would still be in top notch shape!😀

Yes it does loose some of it for a bit. The softness does come back but not how it originally was.

Hi! Did they recolor the whole bag? If so, did texture change? If it did was that temporary?
It did change and it is permanent but it does soften over time. 👍🏻
