- The Goldin Auction which ended on December 12 featured another 7-figure sale. But it was loaded with other amazing cards as well, tons of LeBron James cards, autographs, RPA, more 2003 Exquisite, all sorts of high end Michael Jordan cards including Rookie cards, Mike Trout, Kobe Bryant, Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes, beautiful vintage cards of Babe Ruth, Jackie Robinson, Mickey Mantle, Ty Cobb, Pele, T206, and hundreds of PSA, BGS, and SGC high grade cards, Pristine, GEM MINT, MINT, Topps Chrome, Panini Prizm, Refractors, Bowman, National Treasures, Goudey, Play Ball, etc etc etc.

That 1971 Seaver wasn't even close to a gem mint 10. It was off center and the upper left back had a soft looking corner and chipping. Buy the card as well, not just the label.

Yeah, looks like 8 centering top to bottom and on back. And I just glanced quickly at the back and saw the same issues you did. PSA has something of a reputation for being soft on centering and edges, compared to BGS (and I think also SGC).

PSA going to find themselves in grading lawsuit soon. They definitely showing favoritism towards someone in grading cards. I can see why certain people say these grading companies are rip offs. Tom Seaver is no way GEM MT 10
Also, corners on back look more in the 8 range. No way any of us getting a 10 back on that one.

Yeah, a Gem Mint really shouldn't have any naked eye issues. I prefer SGC for all cards now.
I must say I really respect the amount of time and effort you put into these videos. I m in the top 5 for two separate Pete Alonso PSA set registry’s, and I have to say the price for some of these Basketball Rookies from the past few years is CRAZY! One chronic knee injury and they will not even be a footnote, much less a G.O.A.T, while the guys who’s records they are chasing, in 20 years, maybe, are being forgotten about.
Appreciate that. I totally agree, the players with no real resume selling for these prices... thats quite the gamble

Assuredly it's a lot of money but it still seems underpriced to me given some of the other sales.
I think it's just the beginning. $500k maybe in a few years.
I started collecting cards 35 years ago and could not imagine that a piece of cardboard would even sell at these prices today.

How much have they come down 2 years later?
Posting this a year after the actual auction. 1st, thanks as always for taking so much time to produce these videos. 2nd, can’t help but notice that despite all the current negative sentiment in the market regarding how cards are dropping in value, when I watch this and compare the sales results to the results of a more recent Goldin auction, I can say that only prices for common modern cards have dropped. Most of these cards that are scarce and limited have significantly appreciated in value, even during a supposed “down year.”

The only thing that surprised me about this auction is how low the Parkhurst Howe sold for. This is a legit grail card.

That 1957 Benassi & Oliveira Pele RC is extraordinarily rare. Besides the one sold there are maybe several raw cards that have been seen. The 1958 Alifabolaget will continue to be the mainstream holy grail, but the 1957 card has tremendous upside for the most knowledgeable collectors.

I'm thinking of going back into the hobby and your videos have been so informative. We're the same age and I also collected cards in my middle school years starting in 1991 but I stopped in high school. I wish I would've continued and I would've had some nice rookie Kobe cards.

Yeah I think it could. There were two PSA 9 sales in 2020... $80k and $81k. The $81k was more recent and that was in August.
Does anybody know or have any theories as to why all the RPA/Exquisite/High End basketball stuff is mostly graded through BGS?
Yeah thats a good observation. Im not 100% sure, other than modern autos/jersey seem to be preferred in BGS holders by most collectors.
You said in another video that all baseball cards for Michaels rookie year were Upper Deck, but I have a Action Packed 1994? Is this fake?
The Action Packed is not a fake, but it was not a licensed brand card so its not considered an official Rookie by much of the hobby

What would keep a company from printing a one of one card just keeping it for themselves getting it slabbed and then sending it out on the market to make half a million dollars?

To get them graded, you need to submit them to one of the grading companies. I am doing a walk-through video this Monday on submitting cards to PSA.

You can get them graded yourself, which I would highly recommend if you have a lot of value. Once they are graded, you'll have a lot of options to sell without much difficulty
