Took me till my 40's to finally become super cool and own an 84 donruss Mattingly. I was able to purchase that set and the 84 fleer update set after a very profitable year of hard work. They will both stay in my collection until I leave the stadium of life for good 😆

I'm in the same boat. The 84 update Clemens was the Holy Grail when I was a kid. It was absolutely unattainable. I was shocked to find how much the monetary value decreased. I was happy yo fond that I could now buy several copies...raw, graded, autographed, I kind of went a bit 'mid life crisis' lol. I just got that donruss mattingly yesterday.

I was on a trip with my family to the mountains at the time, and the cabin we were staying in didn't have a tv, but it did have a radio, and I remember like it was yesterday listening to that Vin Scully call of Gibson hitting the home run. My dad and I went to game 4 of that World Series. One of the most epic moments of my childhood.

Awesome video! I recently got back into card collecting. Being in my 40’s the 1980’s are naturally the ones I remember and appreciate the most. All my old cards are raw and I knew if I was going to start again I’d want graded but 9 and 10’s are pretty wild price wise, so I decided on PSA 8’s. To me, as a casual collector, they look pretty darn mint and only cost a fraction of the price of 9/10. I completed my 1980’s rookie set and couldn’t be happier with how it came out. A lot of these cards are the same ones I choose. So iconic and nostalgic!

OMG, I have all of these cards from the 1980's (many 1987-1988) in pristine condition, Fleer & Fleer Ultra's, Upper Decks, Topps, Donruss. Nolan Ryan, Wade Boggs Rookie's, Ripkins, Frank Thomas, many & many more.
I bought 2 big boxes, nicely packed sets. I lost 1 but it's around here somewhere that I bought over 25yrs ago in an Estate sale.

I can’t tell how much I look forward to these summary videos, and the year in cards videos!
Love that you show different versions of the player’s cards before the “unveiling”.
Also like how you show the prices of different PSA grades.
Getting rid of the Tiffany’s was a good idea. I’m probably in the minority but error cards I’ve always found annoying. I just never really cared that a common player has FF on his bat.
Would love to see other 80’s and 90’-95’ videos for the 4 major sports! Either way thank you for making great videos for the love of the hobby!

A lot of people knock the Junk Wax Era, but I wish every era of cards were like that. There is something for every collector in terms of price range/grade. If you just want a solid PSA 9 collection of Mint rookies, they are all affordable with the exception of Henderson. If you want to go high end and have a large budget, you can spring for the PSA 10’s. And if you are on a tight budget, the PSA 8’s are a steal. I see so many vintage and ultra modern cards out of the price range of most collectors, the Junk Wax Era is the most collector friendly in that respect.

I will say that Chris does have a really good eye when it comes to cards.. I'm not talking about condition but the examples of players and the photos of them on their cards - the aesthetics.. And as a true collector that's what it's all about - I mean raw - most of these cards can be had for less than a few bucks - but they are so cool.... I suppose my point is that - the best looking card isn't always the rarest or most valuable card - but that shouldn't take away from it's "glory" as a good looking card of a player we all enjoyed (or hated, lol) at one point in time...

I will say this he was sought after then to but the Murphy error was selling for 3 times as Griffey's card. I couldn't afford packs I was just a pre-teen and I was at a gas station and I finally found a box (gas stations that sold cards then were cheaper than in the card shops) I had enough money to buy one pack and I hit the Griffey.

My takeaway is 2021 was when I should have sold.
Edit: My three big specific memories from collecting in the late 80's early 90's was: 1 - I had 20ish dollar to spend and I bought the Mark McGwire USA instead of the 89 UD Griffey. 2 - I opened a Frank Thomas Member's Choice First Day production Stadium Club and immediately traded it for a bunch of older 70's/80's Nolan Ryan's(which I still have today). 3 - My Wally Joyner collection was stolen... not that it was financially valuable but I put a lot of time and effort into collecting various Joyner cards, including all of his rookies and one offs/promos, and I never recovered it.

I have this Ricky Henderson rookie card.. how would I get it graded and get the value of it? I did most of my collecting as a Teen in the mid 80’s.. so I’ve got tons of baseball cards from the late to mid 70s throughout the 80s.. as well as a Bo Jackson rookie Tiffany card

Everytime I try to sell some of these cards at a card show…I feel like they are trying to rob me blind. If a card is worth 50 bucks they will offer me 5 dollars. I have a ton of cards from the 80’s & also lots of garbage pail kids…but nobody is willing to pay a fair price for them.

Hello you have the best coverage I can find most informative. I appreciate it very much. I bought 1,000s of cards full league sets box's of all years and every brand almost. I'm new to collecting being I didn't before this purchase but even knowing very little about the hobby I didn't have to think twice on this buy. The best thing is almost all the cards looks to have only been touch to maybe 1or2 times and some probably none. I found a 1992 John smoltz bonus 1992 it has a totally blank back can't find anything like it?? I'm in central Texas I would like to talk with you if possible being you seem to know a ton about the hobby??? Look forward to hearing from you God bless you and yours FYI I have baseball and football and basketball hockey in the type sets I spoke of in beginning of post..

I have that Cal Ripkin Jr. Card. I bought it already sleeved at Canton Flea Market in 1994. I was 12.

Super Bummed that Eric Davis didn’t make it. I kinda have a rule to buy them every time I see one.

I wonder if Fleer ever had an employee workshop on how to notice words on bats after the famous card.

Can't believe the '81 traded Raines didn't get in there while Kirk Gibson and Fernando did. I feel like Raines is tragically overlooked in the hobby. His rookies sell for just a few bucks and then everything else is practically commons. He got passed over quite a bit in the 90's insert boom as well so he doesn't really have many chase cards either, I think the 81 traded might be it.

I have a giant box probably 2 ft tall 3 ft long full of 80's and 90's baseball, basketball, football and hockey cards, most of them untouched in very good condition. Ken Griffey Jr was my favorite player I have over a hundred different cards of just him I have Shaquille O'Neal rookie cards and a million other cards that have just been sitting in that box for well over 25 years but my problem is I have no idea who to bring them to to see what's valuable or not because I do not trust anybody, any recommendations of what I could do?
