Not a fan of hotels having unconnected annexes and charging the same price, If I booked a room in a Country Manor house I expect it to be in a country manor house, not the old garage and servants quarters. Thanks for another great video Tim and happy new year to everyone, all the best for 2023!!!
Definitely feels like something that should be clearly advertised when booking
Yep it usually means they are quiet so they don't require a night porter and pay their wages when they put you outside of main hotel .
Agreed! Seems like such a downgrade
Agreed 100%
Totally agree. It’s pointless being in that annex place
That mold situation really is quite unforgivable. Hopefully Brittania buy them out eventually and make sure there's a gap in the windows (ventilation) and maybe introduce some more amenities like go karting and an out of service leisure club.
Lol
I honestly didn't like this hotel at all. The urns were quite depressing and the general feeling the place had, at least how it came across to me, was that it was "stuffy" and unfriendly. Also sticking you in that room away from the main building without specifying when booking seems a bit off. Happy new year Tim and Gaby. I enjoyed the live stream last night.
I agree... zero personality, charm or atmosphere. There wasn't even a noticeable bar person in the bar area to talk to if you wanted a drink and a chat. No wonder Tim went to bed early. Shame as the building (and surroundings) are magnificent.
yep have to agree Geoff

@@Rubbafingaz1 lacked ambiance no flowers anywhere
This has happened to me a few times. You book a room in a magnificent country mansion and end up in a converted garage or outhouse. It's unacceptable and devious of the hotel management not to inform you of this during the booking process.
Book directly with the hotel and ask for a room in the main house. If rooms are available they will let you have them
@@margaretmaskell9985 I did book directly with the hotel. It was many years ago before the Internet existed. The practice of sneakily putting people in converted garages is an old one.
Well someone has to be put in the main building. Probably people like me! If I want a specific room in a hotel then I phone reception at the time of booking. I’ve never been put in an outbuilding,or a room next to the lift or above the bar or over looking the kitchen bins. Just ask for the main building or specific room and if the room you want is available they will reserve it for you.
@@margaretmaskell9985 why would I ask be put in the main building if I didn't know they had annexed rooms. Are trying to make out that I'm naive or stupid?
No I’m not trying to make you look stupid. What an odd thing to say. No need to be so defensive! The hotel website will say if they have annex rooms as well as the main building rooms. If you can’t be bothered to phone/do a bit of research or at least look at a hotel website or trip advisor room tips then it’s hardly the hotel’s fault if you don’t know what rooms are available at time of booking! Room information is always available before you book.
You deserved better than to be stuck in the outhouse!! 👀Zilch atmosphere anywhere although lovely gardens and surroundings. Strange it's been voted the best in Scarborough. Your attention to detail is always so good. The TV people are really missing a trick by not snapping you up Tim. Far better than any travel programme on the box! x J x
lol thanks Judy!
I agree wholeheartedly, Tim is brilliant and he should be presenting anything and everything he just has that wonderful lighthearted warmth and honesty!
If I booked a room in a Country Manor house I expect it to be in a country manor house. I see this a lot where the slightly lower priced rooms aren't int he main house. In some cases it's a brand new building attached around the back somewhere. This has happened to me numerous times, a lot of the country house hotels do this now. It is mis-selling and they should tell you up front in the listing.
“I don’t know who drinks sparkling water?” Oh Tim Tim Tim. Plenty of us drink it. Love this channel.
Only with cordial for me 😂
I hate the stuff 😂
As a kid I used to drink loads of sparkling water but I hate the stuff as an adult.
I am drinking it right now 😂
Stayed there 20 odd years ago when just had 1 child. Felt we were given a poor room & ripped off by price of a breakfast for 12 month old. May have moved on a lot since then but these things stick in your memory.
I can remember a vacation we booked at a mountain resort and when we got there our place was a few miles down the road and we would have to walk or drive up to the main building for breakfast and dinner. I went into the main building to talk about that and they upgraded us to a suite in the main building with a heart shaped bed and a hot tub, and it had it's own little pool just outside the back door. Just goes to show you if you take a chance and talk to them you might get upgraded for free. :)
Watching this after seeing your stay at the Royal Hotel in Scarborough was a trip! 😅I was a bit taken aback by the scaffolding around the coachhouse but your room was very nice, limescale and a bit of dirty tiling not withstanding. It was a bit cheeky of them to stick you in another building without telling you upfront that the main hotel was full, though (if it was full!).
agree
Love the video! I stayed in Scarborough earlier in the year in a b and b that had apparently been voted best B and B in the world (by trip advisor) two years in a row. It was very good, although I remember it mostly for the singing chef at breakfast time! Love Scarborough and loved your review of this hotel.
Loved video was so informative.Done perfectly and professionally.Enjoying so much discovering England from California in America.Tim is our favorite travel guide …He is excellent!
Awesome! Thank you! I hope to come over to ca soon
Enjoyable review, and yeah a bit odd that they put you in the old car shed rather than the main building. Would have been nice to have seen how to get into Scarborough from the hotel, how long it takes etc. Have stayed in a lot of Scarborough hotels and had never heard of this one, so great to watch this. Sparkling water for the win btw - it's great!
lol not a fan of sparkling myself
Hi we stayed there 4 years ago we were in annexe , didn’t like it ,souled bedroom upstairs toilet downstairs , not good in middle of the night , the evening meal of steak was very poor no atmosphere in dining room but the staff were all top notch , too far from the town but great if you need a chill in the stunning grounds in summer ,
Great video, probably my favorite hotel review as I can't stop watching it.
To be totally honest I didn’t like it. It’s not somewhere I would stay. I would be put off by the building works on the way to the house you were stopping in. The public rooms in the main building looked small and the reception looked like it was just put in a corner and there is no excuse for the state of the roof of the greenhouse that just looked terrible. Nothing about this place says grand to me. If it was me I would have been very disappointed. Great video though Tim keep them coming and happy new year… 😀
1:15 nice to be walked over to your room. 6:00 Great room tour. 7:00 Tim, you need to go under a different name when booking. Fantastic Hotel. Thank you Tim.
Good call!
Yeah i think that you should be able to book either the manor house or the car garage at a slight discount. Like Gordon Ramsey said in Hotel Hell "why are you putting me out here?, why would I stay in the annexe next to the hotel when I've booked the hotel?"
Carpet was nice though 👌
Love your reviews of these sort of places. Thanks for sharing 😊
My pleasure 😊
Happy new year Tim & Family 👍👍
Nice one as always. Happy New Year Tim
Been watching your videos since March. Seen all the recent ones so catching up with some of the older ones! Just a small token to say thank you so much for all the work you put into your videos. They are very much appreciated by me and I’m sure many others!
Thats very kind of you , thank you
Tim, go and check out Coombe Abbey in Binley Warwickshire, beautiful park setting, gorgeous architecture, four poster beds and room service. It's also haunted. Happy new year to all.
I remember staying in the Holbeck Hall Hotel in Scarborough. Fantastic luxury Victorian hotel.
But then, shortly after, it, er, fell into the sea!
(Edit - true story. Worth a Google search.)
Nice 👌 will check this out later
So sorry I missed you but will catch up . Hope your first day of the New Year is a wonderful one Tim. 👏🏻🎉
Hi Tim love these old hotel reviews especially haunted ones xx
thanks Diane
Love these hotel videos keep em coming Tim 😀
Glad you like them!
Thanks Tim & Happy new year to you & your family 🥳🎉
happy new year sam
Looked okay, maybe lacked a few extra facilities, but perhaps that will be part of their future plans. Good overview Tim as always.
yes agree
Very unique hotel review to start 2023! Thanks Tim 🙂
thanks Jeremy
what a really nice hotel, I'd love to stay there with all the old fashioned decor and big gardens really does set u back in time
Thanks Tim very interesting look forward to the next Yvonne 😊
Merry Christmas & happy new year 👍🎄
Same to you!
I'm having a marathon of your videos can't get enough of them
Great Vid Tim to start 2023 a nice hotel in a nice location
thanks ross
Great video Tim thank you for showing us I would not mind staying there it looked nice and cosy where you were shame though you were not in the main building
I'm loving this type of video. I wish you would visit all the historic houses!!
It was a very good travel blog today when you visited the Best Rated Hotel in Scarborough today tim and happy new year tim and gaby / Casper aswell
Glad you enjoyed it
Like the look of that. Will have to give it a try.
Good honest review from Tim .
thanks dan
Hi there, another fantastic video from you like always, but like I say I always enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work and a great content. Happy New Year to you
Thanks, you too!
Happy New Year Tim & Family 🎁May the Lord richest blessings be upon you. Amen
I understand what you mean about not being in the main building, bit isolated. Loved the Manor, I trained at Bletchley Park many years ago, and it had that vibe.
Hi Tim. It seed a lively place very posh. I love the quiet peace of the place just the thing for a quiet weekend away or a romantic weekend for two. Please take Gaby next time.
Very nice.. love these old places, it's England through and through, old school class 👌
You just know when I need your videos 💜
:-)
I'll catch this later Tim, I've hit the thumb button
Happy new year Tim.
Same to you!
Great Video. Looks a lovely place to stay.
It really is!
I drink sparkling water! I don't know many others who do though. Also my shaver still charges via those old style shaver wall sockets, at home it gets plugged into the side of our heated bathroom mirror.
I used to work at a hotel slightly bigger than this hotel and it wasn't the best experience I've had. There was a separate area that contained several rooms and it was always forgotten about which was amusing. On 3 occasions the cleaners forgot about it and went home and then we had guests arriving who would come back to the reception and complain that the beds weren't made and the room was a mess so we had to rush around cleaning the rooms giving the guests free nights or discounts it was terrible and is why if I book hotels I always make sure I'm in the main hotel and not in a separate building. For a luxury hotel the fact that there was mould on the window is very concerned, I hope he mentioned this to the staff so they can sort it out as it's such a simple 5 second job for them :)
Beautiful hotel! Owls would be the icing on the cake! Thanks Tim!
Oh yes!
That is such a beautiful hotel . Being in Yorkshire out in the countryside is peaceful, a bit of R and R nice.
Hi Tim, just caught up with this one. Looks a nice place bit old fashioned, and quiet, shame you weren't in the main building,I wouldn't have like being down in there on my own, and having to walk outside for the meals up to the main part, but the grounds looked lovely. Definitely not a Brittania!!! Thanks Tim enjoyed this one,
So nice to see a breakfast at last!
I feature every now and then
I love that carpet!
same here
Another great review Tim. I drink sparkling water, you don’t know what you’re missing lol.
Looking forward to many more of your videos in 2023, happy new year to you and your lovely family.
thanks matt , and to you
Nice accommodations. Looking on the website you can choose the Carriage house or main house specifically. Kind of gave me the whole Cluedo vibe to be honest, but lovely grounds to walk through.
We stayed in the Mansion part on our wedding night, really nice room with 4 poster bed, food was really good and the staff were friendly and the views were really nice
The style for me is a little bit too 'Gentleman's Club' somehow. Didn't get a warm feeling about the place, and why no fresh flowers anywhere?
Beautiful hotel and grounds, but definitely agree that you should be made aware when booking if there are no rooms available in the main house. On a side note, if I were to have a shot everytime you said posh, would I remember the end of the video? 🤣🤣 Great content once again Tim. 👍
lol I should stop using that word but when u have been staying in the hotels I have been you know why
@@WalkWithMeTim you and me both😁
Hello Tim how are you and gabbie and baby Casper happy new year love the vidio of the best rated hotel in Scarborough best wishes take care stay safe xx
Hi Tim another great video and what a grand Hotel you stayed at.The room looked amazing. I would not stay at that hotel location is far to remote for my liking.
I was hoping there would be a seance. Great that you can just about see the sea.
Thank you for another informative video. Unfortunately, not being a driver and being a wheelchair user, this hotel is on my can't visit list. :)
Great video nice hotel.
Great, very detailed review. If you're going to tour seaside towns in 2023 would you consider reviewing ghost trains?
lol random question
The carpet reminds me of a wee bed & breakfast I visited in Edinburgh.
The property & grounds are lovely, but I think it should state at booking if the room is in the main building or the cottage
I really appreciate your attention to detail. What's good with our seeing you in the outer building is I would know to ask for the main building as I am disabled and the extra walk would be to much ❤
We stayed there 2022 for 2 nights and had a lovely time, classic room, staff and food excellent. Weather was beautiful, had a lovely walk into Scarborough. I loved it. Remember this was built as a home not a hotel and is still being renovated. I wonder if the wall garden is finished?
Thanks for the look see in this posh hotel looks very nice and yes Id me miffed aswell being put in the.."garage"
it was still nice tho yes but was a bit gutted they must have been full
my mum was friends with one of the decsendants of the rountree family (his surname was rountree ). i just told my mum about your videos and explained this and she gosh what a small world!
It does look it beautiful. I bet many people have visited for centuries.
Love your content
thanks josh
You should try The Grainary in Harwood Dale. We love it there so much.
Think I'd be fairly pissed off if I turned up and was made to yomp to the garage...
yep was not overly impressed
I would have gone mad if I'd been put in that room. I'm sorry but it looked like a prison cell and having to walk across to the main part for everything and still being charged the same price. That's one hotel I would definitely give a wide berth too!
Happy New Years 🎉 Sparkling Water for me…would give the hotel a 7/10
wow it seems like a lot of people do lol
That reminded me of Grim’s Dyke Hotel, north of London. Have you been there yet? It’s a beautiful Art and Crafts manor house with gardens and classic decor. You can actually tour virtually on google maps!
And the rooms have name, so you can specify which one and make sure you won’t be in an extended build.
Happy New Year
and to you
Hi Tim , I find your videos quite relaxing to watch and help me with my down time recovering from my injuries at the moment . Just wondering is RUclips your full time career? Happy new year x
relaxing? I hope enjoyable too lol yes it is
Yeah of course , especially the hotel reviews and the pier vids , love a pier and the old pier in Weston has now Been compulsory purchased by the RNLI so should be restored . Interesting history there was used for testing of the bouncing bomb
Happy New year
and to you
Cheers from a Yank in sunny East Anglia!🇺🇸🇬🇧
Nice One Pal .Not My Kind Of Hotel Tim Bar Too Small 🤣. Great Vlog As Always ❤.Stay Save Pal.
Thanks 👍
Nice video, Tim. Shame you weren't in the big house 👍👍
I know was a bit gutted for 200 night
Lovely hotel but that black leather bar reminded me of The Shining
I use those shaving points for my electric toothbrush charger.
Looked ok, like you said nothing really stood out as outstanding! Surprised there wasn’t a bath too x
yes I know I love a good bath
Great first video for 2023 Tim not too impressed with the hotel though Happy New Year
You should try Barn field House just outside of Sheffield - it's really really nice and we stay there a lot!
Omg I was so disappointed for u tim having to sleep there, not in the big house,😮,,I’d only stay in the main house, but nicely done, but I’d get rid of those pots,.,looked odd having them everywhere, anyway that aside, very nice, glad u had good sleep and good breakfast..👍👍
yes me too lol
The main manor house looked lush. Stunning architecture, but I'd not say it was super posh tbh. As you said, a bit disappointing to be shoved in the carriage house! Breakfast didn't look all that good to me either. Fab video though!
I thought breakfast was good but not the best I have had lol
Evening everyone, i hope you all enjoyed your new years celebrations, please give todays vlog a like, make sure you subscribe and share on your socials, lets all spread the word and help grow the channel, already we are up to an amazing 136k subscribers
@@davidnm21 A very happy new year to you David, here's to a better year for all of us
I think Tim should be sponsored by Tripadvisor 😅hehe happy new year Tim and family
if only lol
We used to stay in a hotel when I was younger that had an extra building that was a bit cheaper to stay in and they advertised that on the website. My parents chose to stay in there as it was quieter and cheaper. It was in Derbyshire but has closed down now.
Catching up on old stuff. Very nice hotel , the grounds are awesome , the exterior architecture grand. Much more superior to me than modern hoxes
We stayed at Wreahead Hall in a February 2020. We were in the main house (not sure the Carriage House had been opened then) and have to say we loved it! My only comment was that the main bar room seemed to be of a jarringly different style to the rest of the house. Great staff, and the food was excellent :)
Brilliant video as usual!
thanks for sharing yes I thought that was odd
How are you today Tim fromAndrewmay in yarmouth
