Love this review - thank-you. It does make me sad though ... if only English seaside hotels would learn from the chains that it's sometimes better to get the basics right (make sure the lights work and fix the windows) than buy yet another bouquet of window-dressing... and at £219 I'd expect the basics to be sorted!!
This was my wedding venue and can not sing their praises enough! Incredible hotel and amazing staff ❤ the record player came in handy while I was getting ready and the food was so good!

Great video, Tim. I think £219 is too much for what you got - it’s £150 tops. The cost of the dinner was ridiculous too.
But, it’s beautifully furnished and notwithstanding a couple of issues, very well put together! The things you two do for your video - Gaby looked so cold on the balcony!

I’d go before the owners do a new upgrade. The new plans are soulless imo. Thorpe bay is ok but too many tacky mc mansions and angry Essex types in range rovers
As an expat who has lived in Beijing, Hanoi, Myanmar , Amsterdam and now Dubai, 219 is a shocker. Even here in Dubai you could stay at a five star hotel for that price, and in Thailand or Vietnam you'd get something absolutely top of the range. When you think you can get an over the sea bungalow in the Maldives for 280 a night it makes you realise how expensive hotels are in the UK!
Turns out hotels are cheap when you have literal human slaves from south Asia to cook, clean and serve the guests.
@@excession3076 Very wrong, you have to add VAT when you process food for sale, so every restaurant item has a 20% on cost to the business, all the staff involved in the production and service have to be paid as well, then you have to pay for all the furnishings and fittings, glassware, cutlery, crockery and breakages, last and by no means least the gas and electricity bills, by the time you do all that if you can make a profit the tax man appears again with his hand out.
I guess the rate is high to pay for the renovations….

if this was £100 a night , I'd still think it was expensive, but others would say that's reasonable.

The flowers are a seasonal thing and the decor they provide is changed throughout the year. We had our wedding there in March 2023. I personally cannot fault them. The venue was lovely, the staff exceptionall and the food, both the sit down meal and the buffet were superb. All the guests were looked after incredibly well , the price of the event was excellent value as was the bar bill at the end of the event. We had several guests stay in the hotel too and whille the rooms are not the cheapest in town they are a great size , comfortable beds and feel very luxurious. I would recommend the venue wholeheartedly. They also do an afternoon tea which my wife and her daughters went to prior to the event which they all said was a lovely treat.

I stayed there for my 50th, lovely hotel, cosy, great service. I am very particular with matterss and bed covers I must say it lived up to my expectations, fluffy towels good quality cotton bedding. I also noticed the orange edged napkins at the restaurant matching the interior nice touch. The only issue we had was the parking. I will definitely visit again.
I love when Gabby and Casper come along. I love this hotel, I also love the sea, beach. Really nice place.
Lovely room and bathroom, shame about the smell and the draughts from the balcony. I thought the flowers were a bit too much too. I think £219 was a bit steep, especially with it being in March, I dread to think what it would cost at peak season 😕 Thanks Tim and Gaby, and Casper too, what a sweetheart 😊

Hello Tim and Gaby, brilliant video,what a lovely view from the porch especially when it's sunny,for the price I think for breakfast it's worth the money to stay there.the room was great and to have a retro record player was interesting to see.

What a gorgeous hotel! Love the decor in the room, everything just flows beautifully! Would definitely have stayed there if it wasnt for the no lift thing. Shame it's not disability friendly in there, worth every penny by the looks of it though for someone able bodied! And that view! Just wow!

There are beutiful rooms on the ground floor , my mother and mother in law both use wheelchairs and attended out wedding at the venue with absolutely no issues .

I love the duck egg colour in combo with the white skirting boards - looks fab, also the headboard of the bed is very nice. The chair on the work desk - shape I love, fabric, not my cup of tea
Good old Southend on Sea....the posh end! Lovely views from your balcony, you mad people sitting in the rain and wind outside! Thumps is such a dear little boy Tim...he's looking a lot like you these days. Lovely that he comes along with you both to these places & joins in with the fun. My kind of hotel! I guessed the attache case contained a record player, as I have one! Personally, whilst the portions may not be very large, I usually find that quality of food/price quite filling; and I am a pretty big eater! And Thumps sitting at the dining table - what a picture! Thorpe bay, Westcliff and the like, being outside of Southend itself are far superior. Yes, good value.
Walked past here loads of times as I live near here and wondered what it looks like inside-very nice! Like you say though the flowers make it look like a florists!

What a lovely room with a view, can I just say Casper is so well behaved, it was cute when he was checking out the bathroom!
It looked really nice, I think they missed a trick not putting the TV in the cabinet where the record player was and having the record player on the side. For aesthetic reasons.
I also don't think that half an hour wait is too unreasonable for a freshly cooked breakfast, I hate breakfast buffets, its never quite the same as a fresh breakfast. I miss the days of a fresh breakfast.
The hotel I work at still do buffets despite its 4* rating, I keep trying for them to change it but alas I am just one person.
I will definitely check this place out, it looks right up my street :)

Well this looks lovely Tim apart from too many flowers! Clean, smart and good food too. Unusual not to have a lift but if just one floor fair enough so long as you know ahead of time. Great to know about this place, thanks!

What a fabulous hotel. I like it when Gabby and Casper join you. I used to regularly visit Southend as a child but never remember seeing posh hotels. I guess times change and your video has definitely made me want to visit this hotel.

Other than the overabundance of flowers it looked like a lovely hotel. The rounded cabinet was a bit out of place I thought but overall the room was lovely. The food looked good; the portions at breakfast seemed quite large. Little Casper sitting at the table; he`s such an adorable little boy!
I stayed there last year and it’s beautiful. The staff were lovely and the food fantastic.
I have never stayed there. But I know southend really well living in Essex. I love the seaside too. But I think that price was a bit high for 2 beds pushed together. Love the bath. How cute casper looks bless him. Stay Safe ❤xx😊

This hotel is just down the road from where i live in Shoeburyness, they have done alot of work on it and ive heard meant to be doing alot more soon. It used to be smaller but they extended into another property. It looks very different since i last went there on some training for a bank job but beautiful, a very expensive stay though for 1 night

Great looking hotel!. Love this type of review! I prefer twin beds [we're well past the age where you want to meet in the middle] Restaurant looks great! Lamb chops for me and a full English for breakfast!

Love your videos, stayed at roslin many times, those lamps do actually work they are kind of weird they are connected to the wall sockets, after a bit of messing around they do work lol

Price for what you get is very good.

Oh wow! Very nice room, think my auntie would probably want to stay there, she likes them kind of things with the phone, radio and the record player. I do like the bathroom, with the bath. It made me think of a fairy tail hotel there, on the flowers walking down the stairs. Hope you all had a lovely time?

A record player in the room! When hub (a vinyl addict) saw that he said if he was staying there he'd just take loads of records to play, just because he could, and probably forget things like toothbrush or clothes! 😊 Nice hotel, it had a bit of an "Overlook Hotel" Art Deco vibe to it, but in a a nice way! The food looked lovely, too! Thanks Tim and Gaby, and good little Casper (he looked so cute sitting at the table!)
Those cheap little (probably Chinese) record players have very poor performance, both in sound and speed stability! They're often crystal cartridges, not moving magnet, so they will chew up your good vinyls - assuming the (probably sapphire) stylus isn't worn out or chipped!
Oh, he knows that. It was mostly said in jest because it's so random to have one of those reproduction record players AND some cheesy records in a hotel room! Hub plays his records on the real thing - a piece of vintage hi-fi tech (don't ask me what!😊)

That was a good watch. Nice to see a venue that hasn't been run into the ground as so many in the UK have. I thought the record player was a nice touch.
Great balanced review as always. 219 pounds is too much for what i’m sure is a lovely hotel. But personally not for me. I think the flowers are a bit overkill but they have their own unique taste throughout the hotel.
Personally loved the room and the record player lovely retro touch that I wouldn’t have expected in the room.
There is something for everybody at Southend-On-Sea. Quaint fishing village ( Leigh On Sea ) beautiful seafront gardens, a long Pier, a mile of amusements, pubs galore and then at Thorpe Bay quiet elegance with wide sandy beach.
Looks like a lovely hotel would stay there! Got to love sitting on the balcony at night even if it was in the rain (very British! 😄) also how cute Is your little boy! 😊
WOW Southend on SEA impressed, my mothers family were evacuated to Rochford so I know the area well. Caspar is too cute!!!! You are the sort of family I would love as neighbours!!!!
Love a roll top bath. Even better if there is a window in the bathroom for a bit of fresh air while you bath.

I was surprised to see palm trees in the UK! I also had a difficult time thinking about no lift! That bothered me. I was thinking about people who can’t do stairs.
So, for me despite the nice decor it was a big no for me!

So you’re the culprit! Opening doors by pushing the glass panel on the doors so there are greasy finger marks on the glass, that’s what the push plate is for on the door frame 😂
OMG I live near Southend and go past this hotel a lot! Always wondered what it was like to stay there! I've heard a lot of celebrities that perform at the Cliffs Pavillion stay in either The Roslin or The Westcliff Hotel. In my opinion I prefer The Roslin.
The owners want a new exterior design which is utterly soulless. Bit like Thorpe bay

Blooming beautiful hotel . However youtube don't have smell avision just yet so imagining the smell even if it was clean smell don't think my nose would cope. The theme was brilliant food looked nice. However 219 ouch that's a bit much that. I use hotels a lot. Rare I take anything without full pool etc. On average there around 120 a night ish and that includes London paris etc. Ether way you know I love ya vids so keep going tim and onto the next. Oh yea I also enjoy the fact you get some time with gabby and casper makes it all worth it 👌 And the bathroom was on point.

I lived at no. 8 Camper Rd. 48 (!!!) years ago, just a couple of minutes' walk away from the Roslin. To be honest I don't remember anything about the Roslin now. Maybe it was a dive then (there were a few of those in Southend then). But it's a beautiful place now. I like your style of reviewing, so I'll get back to the video.
Was impressed by the Elemis complementary products in the bathroom, they're quite pricey to buy
the bathroom product bought in bulk may not be as pricey. but you are paying a high stay fee over £200
so I do not think a 10p scrap of soap would be seen as good enough.

Nice bright hotel someone mentioned basics yea make sure all lights work waa it 2 not working one we could understand not sure why hotels join 2 single beds together not a good idea especially for couples anyway enjoyed thanks Tim and family
