Managed to bag it on Amazon at a promo price of £129 for the wireless T'stat, boiler interface for HW, internet bridge & a stand for the T'stat. No smart TRV's yet though. Thanks for the great review 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 one thing that I’ve read that might be worth mentioning: having a minimum temperature of less than 14 degrees can cause problems with condensation and mould. I read this on a Swedish website (danfoss). Not sure if it’s relevant in Britain also.

I already have a hive controller (in kitchen) and wall thermostat (in hall) and I don't understand the benefit of replacing them with a Tado system. Thanks for the video, you have more information than their own website, came looking for info after seeing them quickly featured in a Paul Hibbert video.
I do like the look of these but I do have some concerns, like the fact that my heating controls would now be reliant on my internet connection. You would have thought that the internet bridge would allow local control even if limited, and what happens when they decide that the V3 will no longer be supported free, and try to push a V4 version? Right now it doesn't look like there is a Home Assistant integration that just works.
Have they updated the software to allow copy/paste of schedules yet? I currently use an old Centaurstat programmable thermostat and even that allows the copying of days, the rest of the programming is a pain though.

    • @everythinghome

Hi - Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment on this video. Glad you found it useful.
I also had some concerns about that but in nearly 18 months of ownership we've had no problems at all. The only issue had been the distance between some rooms and the internet bridge. This was easily rectified with a WIFI mesh as in the video. YES! They have added a copy and paste function, although no profiles yet. It would come in very useful for school holidays etc. I'm still very glad we went with Tado even more so considering the energy price madness at the moment 😩

The best review of the system I've seen, thanks!
one question tho, you mentioned that 1 radiator should have a standard TRV, Is that to avoid the boiler heating while all valves are off? how would that happen if all radiators have smart TRVs and none call for heat?
Also, what would happen if the wall thermostat calls for a different heat temperature than the smart TRVs in the same room?

    • @everythinghome

      1. Re 1 radiator with no TRV this may be useful - support.tado.com/en/articles/3387248-do-i-need-smart-radiator-thermostats-for-all-my-radiators
      2. You would usually group these together and then assign one of these smart devices to be the 'measuring device'. This is what I've done in my living room where there are two smart TRVs.

@@everythinghome Thanks for the generous reply, what I am wondering about the wall thermostat use case if it's in the same room with the smart TRVs, I suppose the smart TRVs will override the wall thermostat temprature? lets say the wall thermostat is set on 20 degrees and smart TRVs is set on 22 degrees.

    • @everythinghome
      @everythinghome  Год назад

Hi, no problem. You can set which measuring device will control the boiler if there are two smart devices in 1 room ie wall stat and TRV. I would recommend using the wall thermostat to do this as they tend to represent a more accurate room temperature compared to the smart TRV which is right next to the radiator.

I haven't really explored Matter and just used tado as a standalone option. I think moving forward it probably needs to be considered. Tado do push updates frequently so I'm hopeful that this is something they will consider adding. There are conversations here which may be useful for you: community.tado.com/en-gb/discussion/15297/time-for-matter

Very intelligent review. (Hate to think how long it must have taken you to put that together!)
You didn't answer the main reason I watched, though (though I suspect because the answer to my question is yes): Is that all the thermostat does? Seems to me it should allow you to boost hot water and would ideally allow you to cycle through the temps for other rooms that have smart TRVs and adjust those.
A way to make necessary adjustments without needing to use the app seems like it would be a big usability win.

Hi - Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment on this video. Glad you found it useful.
To be honest I don't use the smart thermostat at all. I generally use the app for everything. I personally would hate to have to shuffle through each room on the thermostat to get to the room I want and then adjust it from there. Is there a reason you don't like using the app?

      @@everythinghome Thanks for the response.
Sometimes dedicated hardware is just easier.
I might have left the grandparents in charge of the house, or maybe the wife/husband doesn't need the app but needs a quick manual override.
I might be starting to get cold while using my phone for something else (like, if it's not too much of a stretch, say a phone call :-) or maybe it's on charge elsewhere.
Maybe the internet is out and the thermostat could be a decent backup.
(I quite liked the Hive because it seems to have a hard button to boost heating and hot water, but I hear the smart TRVs are awful.)

    • @everythinghome
      @everythinghome  2 года назад +1

I understand. My wife has the app on her phone too and it works well. The individual rooms can be controlled by the smart TRVs. You can always boost the system via the wireless controller near the boiler but I've not needed to do this either. Hope you get sorted, which ever you choose a smart thermostat looks like a worthy purchase at the moment given energy prices...

One question, a lot of Amazon reviews I've seen say that you can't control anything without internet access and you said in the video that you can control the temperature over the room thermostat just not the app. Is this correct? What happens when your internet is down for a day or two?

Hi, I was going to install the Tado smart wireless thermostat on my Vaillant Ecotec 831 boiler however I spoke with an engineer who said while it can be done on the Ecotec boilers it will not run as efficiently as they would using their own controllers.
This is due to vaillant having their own Ebus chip and third party controllers can only control the boiler to be on or off rather than gradual heat control, this wasn't always the case with the previous vr65 which I think were opentherm but since the vr66 this seems to not work aswell with third party.
Because of this I decided to only purchase the Tado radiator thermostats which come with the bridge in order to run those as an extra while keeping my Vaillant controller.

No, generally the wireless thermostat and all the TRVs will work independently of each other unless you've grouped them together or made one device the main controller. Although, it would be unlikely to have done that unless deliberately trying to do so. Hope that helps. If you're still struggling it may be worth contacting Tado support or checking out the forums.

    Where has everyone installed theirs?
The boiler man installed mine in the kitchen right next to the boiler and always shows a higher temp compared to the rest of the house. This shuts the radiators off and the house is cold, except kitchen obviously.
Help. Any advise how to make it work more efficiently? Do I need to move the thermostat?

Hi Mandip - Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment on this video.
If it's the smart thermostat you're making reference to, ours is installed in the hallway. The scenario you give ie the rooms shutting off because the room the thermostat is in has reached temperature is the exact reason we got radiator smart TRVs to give us individual room control.

@@everythinghome so the TRV create their own zones to ensure the temperature is regulated for that room alone?

    • @everythinghome
      @everythinghome  Год назад

Yes, they allow you to regulate each room individually as in the video. For me this is where the most energy efficiency comes in. Once done you can also group them to create a zone.

My house, 1 radiator in every room in the house. Can i set up 1 smart wallmounted wireless thermostat in each of the rooms linked up to its specific TRV on the radiator in that room.
    Why?
The setup i want: I want a display where i can see the actual real life temp in every room, and on that display, i will be able to control the TRV so i dont use the TRV buttons itself. I like knowing what the real temp in each room is, when entering a room.

Hi - Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment on this video.
You could link a wall thermostat to the smart TRV in that room. You wouldn't be able to link it to a standard TRV. If you're still uncertain you could contact Tado support directly. Hope that helps.

The only thing that hold me back with these smart devices (although they are indeed saving money, and are awesome)is how long would these be suported(and have customer suport for parts) and actualy keep working. It is not a product you use for like 5 years, and software, hardware etc keeps advancing, also internet, routers.
Most people have an period expectation, it is not that you like to switch all your thermostatics every 5 year.
Somethings must be left conventional in your home, especialy constructial devices.

Hi - Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment on this video.
I understand your concerns, I spent quite some time debating whether to take the plunge. I've kept my previous system in a box 'just in case'. A year on and it's been brilliant, support and features keep advancing, updates for the app still pushed. Seems to be saving me money as well which I wasn't sure it would, may be an interesting watch ruclips.net/video/XAIePC6i7D8/видео.html

Any reason why no instruction included when the Application does not present the control for Hot water ?
Yes . . One can send an email to Tado technical support, but don't expect a reply.
Also. There is no "r" in the word "Tado".

In a metal heater (radiator) the warm water always enter in the top and the thermostat have to also sit in the top to regulate warm water to the heater.

WD40 is NOT a lubricant. it is a water dispersant hence "WD" if the valve is stuck use pentrating (thin) oil then use oil/ teflon to lubricate

I agree, price has gone up. Used to be able to get a multipack on a prime deal for around £30-35 each. I think given gas prices though the savings are still there but payback will take longer
