I like how you showed your mistakes. They literally happen to everyone all the time. It helps as a reminder. There is a lot of setup that goes into a tile job and the more prep work you do before, the lest adjustments you have to make later. Especially on the PLUMB line.
You’re a very secure person which is a wonderful trait. You’re ability to tolerate filming your mistake for the world to see, own it and move forward with a positive spirit speaks volumes about your maturity and high level of distress tolerance. I’m so impressed with you I subscribed. 👍🇺🇸
An hour and you already had a tile up.mThat’s actually fast!. I was a tile setter befor me they invented wedges lol. My layouts take an hour by themselves. Great work. Most customers have no idea that tile setters need to understand the structure and plan accordingly before even thinking about mixing thinset. To you DIY guys out there. If your tile setter arrives and starts throwing up tiles - your job is not done right. You want to look for lasers, levels and site protection. If trades are using those they are understanding the concept of being a professional tradesman. Seriously great content bud.

Wish you were in Maine and did tiling up here! You are super smart, super capable, humble, good sense of humor, and loveable. My Dad and brother are like you.
Thank you for being honest in the very beginning with the laser level instead of editing, and make it look like everything went OK thanks for being a real brother
Love it kid. Mistakes are best left in your videos. Gives the your community the lesson learned understanding. What's most appealing is your explanations and genuine guidance. This here is a good video. Cheers mate.
I honestly appreciate you leaving in your mistake. It's more helpful to see you work it out on video rather than just quickly explaining it and moving on. Cheers!
I know it sucks to make mistakes, but thanks. It helps to see how a pro fixes them. Started with the wrong tile; no problem… here we go. Adapt, reposition, overcome!
nice man ! recommend troweling short direction for air to get out set middle first then push air out, you ca use a euro trowel that self collapses ridges !
I learned a ton at the 5:00 mark of this video! Thanks for including it in the edit! That tiny 1/4 inch offset is a dealbreaker if you had already set that first tile!! Props, and thank you very much. Cause I would have that sucker glued in at that point!
Great video, but just a note. Large format tiles like these are not consistently 'flat'. There is usually around 1/8" deflection somewhere in the tile. This is probably the 1/8" gap you showed before you set the first tile - not the wall.. Also, checking this deflection is sometimes important when trying to figure out what size trowel to use..
I saw you’re frustration and know exactly how you feel, I need one of those bridge saws and a laser, I’ve been installing some of the same tile this week, using grinder and wet sponge to cut and chalk line ect, for everything else LOL
"And it just took us an hour :) " Lol, i feel that man. Sometimes the simplest things just end up taking longer than you think. Some days i don't know if it's me or just the job itself.
Hi Winni, thanks for the tutorial for installing large tiles, it is awesome your job! So I am looking for the list of materials you used to install these large formats. I do not if I have to use modified or unmodified thin-set on these shower system for hanging them on walls? thanks again.
Hey Man great video I just bought the TZ -1550 61” Rubi. Having some issues with consistent cuts across the 24” looks like similar tiles to yours . Question do you think I should upgrade to the endurance wheel instead of that silver that comes with it? Thanks bro appreciate your help.
Hey guys I know I’m late to the game. Just stumbled across your video. I subscribed right away. You’re very entertaining and a fantastic teacher. looking forward to more videos👍🏻👍🏻
Hey man when you have a prefab pan like this it is really nice to have a level sub floor. A quarter inch from one side the other is getting close to water not draining properly. If it were a half inch you'd be in trouble (depending on how wide the shower is). It looks like you got about 2ft to the drain from the corner which would mean you have a half inch of pitch. Good work as always though man 🙏 Ps I love that you show these little mistakes. anyone that says these don't happen from time to time is full of it
Thank you. I hope you still have that pikachu shirt! I am very nervous that the tile guy I get will not be great...either lazy, impatient, inexperienced, and/or mis/un informed. Maybe I should quiz him if he is a younger guy. They all think they're so great. I look at the pics of their showers, and yuk...they aren't doing what I want. I have one old guy whose showers look fantastic...but he is not going to help with any of the prep, like the frame or pan, or plumb the walls, not to mention the rough plumbing and drain. But these other guys act like anyone can do tile, yet they all refuse to do the large tile shower floor and don't seem to know about the envelope cut. So I am getting all the prep done, slowly, by good guys, and hoping my fav tile guy will come in last and finish it off amazingly.
Looks great, nice job. Nice job doing it right also. One thing tho, you know all those extra lines on the tape? They also measure 1/16, 1/8”. Instead of plus and minus😂
I've always heard To start with the back wall. That way, it hides your grout joints n the corners. Much cleaner look, but to each his own. Your jobs look great in my opinion. Just throwing it out there. Is not trying to critique your work.
Why didn’t you start on the back wall first? Isn’t it better to hide the seams and keep the vertical edges more straight looking when finishing the sides last?
As long as he does it. I hope he knows he needs a flat wall, self leveling spacers, extra thin set ,levels, and patience. You have to make them go in right. Just because they are big tile doesnt mean they will go in easier.
Serious question: Do these systems like the KBRS you're using hold together if you have to remove a tile that cracks or chips? We float almost all of our showers and can float a patch if the mud comes off with the tile.
I was just setting some 2’x4’ in a shower. Did the exact same f*cking thing and had to jump to the other side. I like 2 suction cups with this size tile, allows me to really slide it up and down and collapse the ridges, and it’s a lot easier to move around. I set two buckets down to allow the tile to be supported and I keep the suction cups away from the buckets. Solid work though
Also when you mark the tile instead of flipping it upside down with the face still out you should have marked it on the back with it upside down in case the floor was out. Luckily it was 1/4” out level, not 1/4” to say 3/8” out from the floor.

Newbie here. Can u lay all those tiles in one day? Won’t they fall ? I know they’re heavy

I was taught to always set the back wall of tile first, excellent work none the less my friend.
Yes, that's what I always do!
Yep, it makes the cut-gap face into the shower rather than be looking right at you as you approach the shower.
Awesome, I was looking at these at Home depot. 8 tiles for my whole shower! Great job on the video.

Lasers are game changers but you should have started with the laser to figure out your layout. It would have saves you the wasted hour, lol
Looked plumb level to me 😂 everything I’ve seen you do so far has turned out beautiful in the end.
Thank you!

Great information! You really don't grout the 16th of an inch grout lines?
Hot melt glue works great to hold that schluter in place. Also handy to put dot on a tile that wants to move
Exceptional video!!!!
No coating on the backer board?
Only in the corners?

I would be very grateful if you would tell me what the name is and what kind of mesh (grid) is glued to the waterproofing
Can you link or tell what size and type clips those are? Also, how big is your grout line?
Why dont you use waterproofing on your walls?

Hi from Vancouver Island Canada. Can you set these tiles with No grout lines
Why didn’t you start on the back wall first? Isn’t it better to hide the seams and keep the vertical edges more straight looking when finishing the sides last?
Thanks for the help I knew I needed to back butter but I was going to do it the other way so it was helpful
You should install the back wall 1st so you're not starting at your cuts from outside of shower
Why didnt u skip a row from the bottom up and start from the second row?
Very Nice! And when you said, "We got two tiles in today", I could feel you bro! Lol...
Haha it is what it is
You got the sub, all due to the shirt. Amazing information thanks boss

Back wall always first
Can I do a whole bathroom with a curb-less shower where I just pour thin set with pigment mixed in over a shower pan like Redi Tile?

very informative video, what are you using the thinset, is it ready mix thinset as i did not find any ready mix thinset for 24x48 tile?
What type of adhesive do you use for those monster pieces lol. Thanks 👍
I had a customer that saw 30 x 60 tiles at floor & decor . He said it should make tiling his master bath really easy 😌 😏
As long as he does it. I hope he knows he needs a flat wall, self leveling spacers, extra thin set ,levels, and patience. You have to make them go in right. Just because they are big tile doesnt mean they will go in easier.
🤣
Get a hot glue gun and use that 2 position and set your Schluter strip initially..
No men amateure do that
Can I do a skim coat?/scratch coat the day before instead of Beck buttering same day
Definitely had some mess ups like that, not a big deal, but when it’s siding on a house, it’s a lot of walking around and re-measuring😭😭
Very good work. I'm going to do my shower based on your video. My tiles are 5x3 feet what kind thinset do you recommend.
PS: it's my first time tiling
LFT thinset.
What kind of thinset are you using. If it took me an hour to set the first piece, LFT would set up on me.
Serious question: Do these systems like the KBRS you're using hold together if you have to remove a tile that cracks or chips? We float almost all of our showers and can float a patch if the mud comes off with the tile.
Some good suction cups would help. With tiles that big they are notch troweling both the tile and the wall.
Hi, whats the name of the water tool on suction cup used to make the holes. Thanks
So if no grout lines what size of space will your levelers be?
Can you use PL 400 if you’re installing 24 x48 tiles on a fire place wall?
Brother thank s for sharing, God bless you
Can you put tile on the whole wall in one day or do you need to do it a couple rows at a time to let it dry?
Looks good man
When you butter your wall do you not need to trowel the ridges on it if you back butter the tile with ridges????
Thanks for sharing and I love the war paint!😂
Slainte,
DC
Why don’t you use a manual dry cutter for straight cuts
How do you collapse the thin set ridges on the top tiles when you can't slide the tile up and down because of the ceiling?
Quick question how would I plan if I used this 24x48 in a 57 wide wall should I do the grout line in the middle or sides ? 🤔 love your channel ❤️
Middle
Winni I enjoy your content and your grind I don't usually subscribe but I want to see you succeed quality work brother👍
Well that means a lot! Thank you so much man
What size Schluter did you use? Great content, big personality!
Great Stuff! Thanks!
Great video!
You should have started with your cut piece on the bottom so you could end up on the ceiling with a full tile looks a lot better that way
can this be used for backsplash in kitchen
I'm curious on the back wall. Could you have floated some thinset on your pan to bring that side up?
Yeah absolutely. Kinda missed that. Not a huge problem
that moment when you realize that the easy install you expect just got more complicated and time consuming is all too relatable
I was just setting some 2’x4’ in a shower. Did the exact same f*cking thing and had to jump to the other side.

Yeah I honestly need two good suction cups. I don’t have a good one!
Looks great and I also say level
Excellent, subscribed.
what are you using for tile spacers?
Which Rubi bridge saw are you using?
Why the sides first and not the back wall first to hide the grout lines on the side from a front view
Y use a tile machine cutter instead of manual tile cutter??
Are you using mastick ? Or what type?
Wonder if a local rental business , rents tile saw? Checking...
Also when you mark the tile instead of flipping it upside down with the face still out you should have marked it on the back with it upside down in case the floor was out. Luckily it was 1/4” out level, not 1/4” to say 3/8” out from the floor.
So please explain in your heading that says No Grout??? I did not see this? 😮
Can this saw cut 2.5-3” marble?
Great, now I have to buy a $1500 tile saw.
Gosh I love your work. Inspiring to me I'd like to try this sometime
Why didnt you start the back wall first tho ?
