Thanks for the video. As a tile setter who usually works small, it's nice to see there's a method you can use that doesn't require thousands of dollars in tools!
Thanks for this. I had to cut a single tile lengthwise only 2" from the edge to make a vanity top. I took it to a marble countertop fabricator and paid him $10 to throw it on his huge wet saw and cut it for me. Best $10 I spent in a long time.
The sound of that razor scoring the length of that slab was so satisfying, I had ti watch. Those mammoth tile are pushing us little guys into early retirement. Never did like those designers and there stupid ideas. Thanks for the great vid from Vancouver bc
First and foremost thank you for making this video. I really like the simple techniques you use to get the best results thank you for being original authentic and just sharing the knowledge 👍. God bless you on your journey sir and I wish you well in this life.
Foam insulation boards work really well instead of overhanging them. Love these methods. I’m starting a large curbless soon with 2’x4’ tiles floor and walls. 🤪
I like your open title with stick ons. When I produced one of my first videos in the eighties, I did titles on a patio door with shaving creme. Now I will go back and watch your video.
Good vid like watching them. Extremely important to zoom in with a close up shot slowly (not a far away quick moving glance) to show the mass chipping a dry table saw and hand held grinder does to porcelain, natural stone and ceramic (sanding stones won’t fix that totally). Also a close up shot with a straight edge needs to happen if you’re giving an honest review. When cutting with dry saw or handheld grinder, It’s common to have the tile veer off and split towards the end of the cut. This happens especially with the high honed glass sheen, extremely fragile porcelain - and happens even with the smaller 12x12 or 12x24 - would be compounded with the 24x48 just from a single tap vibration especially on rectified edges. I’ve been installing tile for 40yrs for reference. Keep up the great content.
You can also buy a diamond blade for your circular saw if you do a DIY job. You can get a helper who can spray water from a garden plant pumpable sprayer in order not to damage your blade fast and not to breathe all the dust. A guide is easily made with 2 planks of laminate flooring or anything straight. To not get a single chip - place reasonable strong tape over the cutline. First cut only the face side of the tile only 1/4th then proceed with a cut through. I use painter's tape the regular beige one. If you do this professionally yeah a machine is a huge time saver.
Hi, what grinder blade do you suggest for cutting 2'x4' gres porcelain tile 3/8 thick. & It looks like a thick flat table is super important also!? Please advise. Thanks
Ive seen mini skill saws made for tile. Maybe clamp a straight edge and use the guide or shoe of the saw like cutting large plywood with a straight edge. It would be nice to know the costs of the different options!
It’s not a wet saw it dry cuts and uses a vacuum to collect dust. I want one but some reviews I’ve read say it burns out after 1 yr and they cost 1,800.
Hey, sorry unclear comment last time. What I meant to ask is: What is the cheapest/best method to rip 30" tiles that will be used in the field? I hardly ever half to do this so don't want to invest too much.
The right tool for the right job. I'm going to think outside the box and lay out my floor 14x14 so I don't have to cut any. I will use 12x12 tiles around the 1 ft perimeter. I can easily cut those. But if I didn't have this layout and had to cut I would rent the table saw.
I have an old model IQ so that I purchased from someone who retired and when you look at it it almost looks like it's slightly angled like almost to do a back cut the way the bar comes down but it seems straight is that by Design on purpose when they mess up their pretty accurate and also do you know if I can get a slide extension for the older IQ cut saw
Whats best the razor or montolit manual cutter ??? Please I would love to know your professional opinion since I'm getting one soon. Thanks for the videos
About to do my bathroom floor with exact same tile. Bought a Monolit 36 inch manual cutter for cross cuts. Rip cuts I'll do with the hand grinder and a Monolit diamond wheel -which it looks like what you have. Those cuts will go under the baseboard. Thanks for the timely video.
Great video. QQ, for those of us that don't do this for a living, what manual tile cutter would you consider other than a TC52PRO Razor Pro 52? I'm doing a home project and dropping a grand on a manual tile cutter for 24 x 48 tile is a bit much. Rentals in the area suck, so that's out.
I’m currently working on a project but the tiles are 32 x 64“. I don’t have any problem with long ribs or crosscuts. Trying to cut out a c shaped notch has caused me to break 4 tiles already. Any recommendations?
Were almost done with 870 sq ft of 48x48 and those small cuts on the edges were the worst! A lot of waste :/ any advice on small round cuts on the edges of the tile?
good stuff, although seems a bit dangerous not to have the guard on the grinder, even if a diamond wheel is a lot less liklely to break and become a projectile than fiber or other kinds of wheels...
Will these cutters work with a large slab tile that isn’t flat surface? Or will that pose a problem? I have 4’ large slabs that have detailed grooves throughout. Thanks!
Another channel's video (How to cut LARGE tiles with out breaking them.) put a foam board under the tile, taped the tile cut area before marking and angle grinding, using the grinder to first score before cutting right through.
1. horsing around a 4 ft. tile and cutting it dry to add dust to your misery is too much. 2. A $1000 52" razr is kind of a steep price to pay, then you get to polish the knife edges. 3. A dry grinder with a sponge??? I just finished a 100ft2 2 x 4 ft tile job with a $99 kobalt hand held 4" wet saw with hose attachment. Clamping a straight edge and measuring twice gave me professional results. I highly recommend it for smaller projects.
I used my small Porter-Cable tabletop wet saw to cut a huge tile, put it on the floor and used a dolly and some 2x4’s (for height) as my rolling table! Worked like a charm!! I still can’t cut a great straight line with a grinder, not steady enough 😩
I clamp a piece of 1 inch angle steel to the tile. The offcut protrudes this ensures that you cannot cut into the piece you need I also have water from a hose on it. The best place to do this is on the lawn. I don't know how he cut that tile so quick and straight it's hard enough to cut a normal tile let alone porcelain and without water. He obviously has a better grinder.
Great video man. Keep up the great shares. Im looking for a new grinder blade...Whats that one/Link? And is it as good as a Pearl? Appreciate it. Rocky.
That blade is by Montolit, you can get it from Contractors direct. It's better than the Pearl, but pricey $$$. Keep in mind though, the diamonds don't burn out so it's worth every penny!

never tried that

Have you ever tried the circular type tile saw?
Does that iq extension table fit on the dewalt ?
negative
Wow!
GO Berg!
Thanks brother! 👊
The link for tile cutter points to something made by Montolit, not RTC and has a 25 inch capacity only
I’m thinking about using go board. What is your opinion on that product
We have used it for dozens of showers! Good product if waterproofed correctly.
what brand is the big tile cutter
💥💥Great video, thanks. The link to that Montolit cutter shows that it only cuts 24.5 inches. 🤟🏼

Rectangular shaped tile is not the problem, square 4x4's and up is the real headache.

at mark 6:43 of the video good sir
A spray bottle can work well instead of the sponge
How would you suggest to miter a 4ft tile to wrap around a corner?
Grinder with a new diamond blade would be best. The dewalt d36000 with foam board on the tray would work, but I haven't tried that.
@@LandbergTileTV foam board idea makes sense. I'll give that a try. Thanks for the suggestion

impossible, would bind blade, bend blade and burn out the blade

What was the model of wet saw? Im using montolit tornado but it cuts only up to 70cm
iq tile saw
I have noticed in a few of your videos that you use the IQ saw without the lower blade guard doesn’t that negate the dust collection?
I usually have it on when cutting indoors, but take it off indoors for better camera shots.
Can you cut out a niche inside of a 4x8 porcelain tile or would the tile crack?
Yes, with a grinder.
You can also core drill the four corners then diagonal cut across. Score the straight lines after then snap.
