    Hi Steve. The wall has come out really well. We will always give you our comments but they only advice to help you make a decision. It isn't a democratic process! I think the coal merchants has come out well and I particularly liked the staithes. Of the options you discussed I think having the lights above the retaining wall might be the better option, not least for getting a drill in (all too often I biff something with the drill). Lights aren't often next to the track and you are tight for space there. Your derailing problem is a pain. Looking at the track as it ends the curve at the point, I think the join is not quite square. If you freeze the video at 30.26 you will see what i mean. Larger engines, especially with pony trucks need a short section of straight track before negotiating a point to help realign the wheels. They can become very choosy about whether to remain on the track otherwise. Good luck in getting it sorted. Stephen

      Thank you Stephen - yes I'm going to have a go at re aligning the track this weekend, failing that it will be a new set of larger points. I made the mistake of ballasting before testing out! Ah well all part of the learning curve. It will either be as you said, lighting the coal mine area from the bottom track or I am pondering the battery and switch housed in the boiler house method. Time will tell. Thank you again for your support and advice.
      Regards

    Hi Steve, the issue with your Flying Scotsman may not be the track. I have had this issue with a Dapol Hall, Manor and Grange. The pony truck usually comes with the pivot screw to tight so the truck only pivots on the bar from the loco body. The truck should also pivot at the other end as well. Try loosening the screws, to get more movement. Also check the traction tyres are not twisted.

      @lynganddistrict  2 года назад

      Thanks you Mark, I have had issues with the loco since last week, the pivot you spoke about has dropped out completely, causing the loco to twist and the power wires under neath have broken lose and the drive shaft has popped out. The pivot holder, the small hole holds the brass female part and it is loose inside the hole. I am taking the whole thing back next week to see what they can do for me - very disappointing as the wires now need replacing as well as the whole pivot assembly. grrrr.
      Regards
      Steve

      @@lynganddistrict Steve, You should have some replacement wires in a parts bag and the screw will be on your track hiding from you. Those wires break on a regular basis if you remove the loco from the track a lot. They are best left on in an engine shed. When/if you put the screws back, do so with a small amount of PVA on the threads to keep it in place but not tight. Same for the front end pivot screws.

      @@PiddleInTheMarshbyMarkIreland Thanks for the tip ... I will have a look at it properly this weekend but it may be beyond my skill set so will hoik it back to the shop I got it from.

    Hi Steve, plenty of work done there mate, the arched retaining wall has turned out really well.
    I like the way the scene with the boiler house and coal merchants is coming together, I especially like the coal merchants kit, I can see one or two of those at Exehaven. The coal staithes are excellent to, great idea with the match sticks, it’s given me a couple of other ideas to.
    It’s very annoying having a loco that won’t run over a point, it may just need a slight adjustment so fingers crossed no major surgery is required.
    Cheers for now mate, John

      Thanks John, just frustrating I can't complete it till after Xmas as some of the kit I plan to put in there is on my Xmas list to Santa! I've plenty to go on and it looks like I will be swapping out that point for a larger one.

    Your scenery is coming along nicely.
    As for your troublesome points, it maybe the camera angle but it looks like the straight through line is a little kinked at each end. The nearest slightly more so. It may not be the points that are at fault.

    Hi Steve,
    I'm so pleased you managed to work out your wall. The proportions look so much better than the original inkscapes wall, and it fits in beautifully with the location.
    Have you thought about weathering the soil around your mine scene with coal dust as that stuff gets everywhere going by my experience with coal fires as a kid.
    Keep up the good work.
    Gemma

      Thanks Gemma - I'm pleased with the way its turned out, and now comes the quiet groaning and moaning bit where I have to go under the base board and wire it all up!

    Hi Steve the wall is so much better did you seal the paper if not watch any water against the paper it will wipe the print of. You plan is coming together and your doing a good job. Have a good week. Colin

    • @lynganddistrict
      @lynganddistrict  2 года назад

      Yes Colin I sprayed it with some Matt Varnish to seal it all in - I watched Chandwell for that tip! Thanks for the kind comments, yes I'm hoping it will all fir in once I get some trees, bush's and workers in there.

    Hi Steve! Well didn't the wall work out great in the end? Good for you for sticking to your guns and producing something original using Inkscape! You did a great job! The whole scene is looking great! I was wondering if you could use battery operated lights, so you could leave the lights in-situ to avoid having to remove them? You could hide the batteries in the mine entrance and disconnect them when you needed to remove everything! Actually, after typing that, I wondered, if you brought your lighting bus wires up into the mine entrance and terminated them in some sort of plug, you could simply unplug the lights and remove them with the rest of the scenery! Does that make sense? All the best, Ian.

    • @lynganddistrict
      @lynganddistrict  2 года назад +1

      Ian - that was one idea that I was going to to look at later, a battery operated light but I was wondering how to conceal the switch. However you have now got me thinking about a plug in system hidden under the tool shed ... food for thought!! Thanks for the idea!
      Regards
