Hi Erik, Great job with this review! I love how you covered the key aesthetic and technical features in a methodical and complete fashion. Your enthusiasm for the watch really comes across in the video. The 5205 is one of my favorite modern Patek Philippe references, and it's a real pleasure to see a guided tour of the model from an owner who knows his stuff. Keep the flame burning and the videos coming! Best, Tim
watchuwantinc Tim, Thank you very much for the in-depth comment and kind words, I appreciate it a lot! Please keep in mind, I review watches, I don't necessarily own them. I do thoroughly enjoy researching watches and I am glad my energy came across in the video. Have a good day, and kind regards, Erik
***** Thanks for your comment. Far from an expert but I have a keen interest in watches :-) Not quite sure what you mean by "summing".. Regarding the dial, some share you opinion due to the 2 tones and the 3 apertures; however, I find it gorgeous. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder :) You might enjoy my second video about the 5205G on my channel.
What a fantastic watch and great review. I am doing research on a first Patek, and I'm not a huge fan of the Nautilus, and the Calatrava leaves me a bit cold. The 5205 is the perfect mix modem and classic. Wear it in good health!
Thanks for the review Erik, was a pleasure to watch. You can purchase the deployant clasp from PP if you wish, but there's nothing wrong with the buckle; the former is a bit more eye catching though.
@@wristfulthinking hello, yes although I sold the yellow gold version I originally reviewed and in 2019 bought a rose gold 5146R. In Dec 2019 I picked up a 5170G manual wind Chrono and in 2018 June a Rose Gold Day-Date on President bracelet and Tahitian Black MOP diamond dial.
This is one of my favorite PP AC, neck and neck with the 5396. Maybe for a cleaner dial 5396 is slightly better but the gentle two tone dial on 5205 is sooo nice. There is also a beautiful rose gold version with black dial of 5205 now, which is also pretty stunning. Deployant is much more elegant solution at this price point than the regular pinhole buckle.
Thank you for your comment, I'm glad you like this Patek. I think you're right, the 5396 is a beautiful annual calendar with a somewhat cleaner dial. I agree, the deployant clasp looks more elegant.
one of my favourite watches of all time. beautiful.A little tip about those straps, if you rub a little bit of vaseline into it carefully (not too much), it brings the coating back to life.
when exactly does the month, day and date dial starts changing in the late evening? and how long does it take to change over? I believe in 5396 the changeover is within minutes. I ask this as this could be problematic at a dinner when you are showing the watch to a friend and it doesn't show the right day and date.
Hi, thanks for commenting and sharing your thoughts. According to the owner, it is not particularly disturbing, I believe the date changes between 11 and 01. That being said, I agree with you that a 'instant-change' is preferable. You might enjoy my other watch reviews/explanation videos on my channel (including a review of my own watch, a plastic Swatch and a vintage Omega from 1954)
nim nim parvin Both are beautiful timepieces; however, they serve very different functions. If you travel frequently and find yourself needing multiple time zones, then I would recommend the world time. If not, it really comes down to personal preference. I believe both pieces look incredible. The world time has more of a unique design that some love and some find distracting. Hope that helps. If you haven't done so already, you can take a look at my second video about the 5205G on my channel.
Excellent review, I am seriously considering buying this watch. Out of curiosity, how is the dial legibility in low lighting conditions? Looking forward to more reviews.
Mustafa Durrani Thank you, it's a beautiful watch! I think it's not a problem to read in low light because the finish is superb. Keep in mind, it has no florescent dials, so if you are in almost darkness, it is difficult to read.
Thank you! I have uploaded another video on my channel which I think you will like. I am working on doing a lot more reviews so stay tuned :) What watches do you like?
I like a lot of PPs, 5960, 5980/1ar, 5936, 5496, 5159, 6102, 5207, 6002, 5712. I also like some JLCs, the new ultra thin perpetual calendar, some of the annual calendar master control range with power reserve, I like Cartier, MCT, Breva, Rolex skydweller, some IWCs
You have a good taste in watches :) I am working on another Patek video, a nice JLC, a vintage Omega, an elegant female Rado, and a sporty Tissot. I look forward to hearing your feedback when they are done.
Erik Ternsjö I find the 24h function to be incredibly useless and a waste of a complication. When someone is wearing a watch worth $40k or more, he should damn well know where he is and whether it's 4 AM or 4 PM :) Even if he is living in Iceland. Other than that the Ref 5205 looks magnificent, especially in rose gold with a black dial. Not too busy, not too large, easy to read.
Alex K. haha, I agree with you that the 24 hour function is pretty useless. Then again, what isn't useless with a mechanical watch if you think about it? :) You might enjoy my second video of this Patek 5205 on my channel.
Hi Winston, so far only one video. The Swatch Sistem51. I recently made a review of a vintage omega from 1954. You can find some vintage pieces around that amount. You might also like my review of the Tissot LeLocle which is a little bit more. I am working on making more videos of watches in that price point. Hope that helps! :)
One small remark, this is not a "dress watch" per se. Dress watch shall be very minimalistic, something as Vacheron Constantin Patrimony, or Patek Philippe Calatrava Ref. 5119. No complications at all. The word we are looking for here is "elegant" but definitely not a dress watch. Anyway, great video, keep it up!
***** Thanks for the feedback! I have a second video about this watch on my channel which you might enjoy ;)What don't you like about the case or the caliber?
I don't like the inward curve to be honest, and the caliber just looks uninspired. Put this next to a dufour and the caliber would look positively boring.
***** I don't agree with your thoughts on the inward curve; however, I do share your appreciation for Dufour :) Regarding the inward curve, you might enjoy my review of the Patek Philippe Caltrava 5227R.
Well let me just start by saying that I love Patek but my $8k Omega changes day & date in one second usually -15s to +15s after midnight so I was very very disappointed when you said that it takes few hours for Patek to do the same. $46k watch should do better
+mikey dempsey Thanks for commenting, I appreciate hearing your feedback. You might enjoy my many other watch reviews and explanation videos on my channel :)
There is no comparison between a Patek Philippe or Vacheron Tourbillon and a Rolex President. I love all three brands, but a Rolex is a tool watch made to be ultra-reliable, and not intended to be a luxury watch until it's line was converted in later years. A solid gold president is still a nice watch, but I don't see how someone can prefer it over a Patek complication or Vacheron tourbillon. Maybe it's just my knowledge in watches and the tastes I acquired... but then again, I can see the good and bad aspects of every watch, and the Patek tips the scale on this one.
Moses Browning Thanks for the comment, I think you touched upon some great common differences between Patek and Rolex. You might enjoy my latest video ;)
+Miss Information You write "A solid gold president is still a nice watch, but I don't see how someone can prefer it over a Patek complication or Vacheron tourbillon. " Many, many people, including knowledgable and experienced watch enthusiasts, prefer the Rolex (as well as other brands) because it offers them what they want. Additionally, your comment that "Maybe it's just my knowledge in watches and the tastes I acquired..." demonstrates snobbery and definite lack of understanding why people buy watches. Your username seems appropriate.
+jumboJetPilot Hi, thanks for commenting. No, it is not made out of plastic. To my knowledge, all Patek watches have hands made of either steel or other precious metals.
I have a lange 1 in platinum, they're hard to compare as the lange has a more sober character. Buy both is my advice. I absolutely love the case of the patek particular the play of curves.

Very very nice watch, I have to ask what did that cost?
Thank you! Prices of timepieces are different from country to country and from shop to shop. My advice is to look around and bargain appropriately :)
Riktigt fin klocka, var fick du tag på en sådan i Sverige?
Tack! Bought from authorized reseller in Basel Switzerland.
Wait, are you not from Sweden?
Jag skrev på engelska så att alla skulle förstå ;)
Ah, fattar :). En annan fråga, tror du det är säkert att beställa en sådan här klocka online?
It's such a beautiful piece :)
I think so too :)
Excellent review and your videography(if such a word) really makes the watch look beautiful. Pity you don't do more reviews of watches I like

ok cheers, can't say I am interested in Rado or Omega to be honest but keen to see your other Patek video
saloonite What about a 3000m divers watch by Breitling and a nice manual wound fly-back Glashütte? ;)
I love this watch...if I ever get a chance to buy patek, it would be this one..
Thank you very much and nice choice!
i love this watch and fp journe blue
eric tjie Thanks! I think the FP Journe Blue is beautiful, very simplistic.
It's only a 24h display, not a 2nd timezone, right?
Alex K. Correct. I'm working on two new watch reviews and they both have two timezones so stay tuned :)

How is it compared to a 7s26?

Since you're such an expert with it, what's it's daily summing like? It's a surprisingly ugly dial.
What a nice owner's review.

Awesome watches.... nice review bro
Thanks
Ahhhh! You lucky you get to have this watch! One day I will be able o afford this type of watches!!!'

This one costs almost $50k.... I would love to own the rose gold one with a black dial!!!
Darth Sidious I think the 5205 with the black dial looks beautiful.
a lange my fav

dlhussain81 Thanks for your feedback. The Lange 1 in platinum looks fantastic!
anytime! I cant help watching this video again and again... once they make it in platinum i will be going to the AD!
dlhussain81 I'm glad you like the video :) I uploaded another video of this watch on my channel. Let me know what you think!
what watch winder is in the video?
The watch winder is called Swiss Kubik. To see a review of it, just type in "SwissKubiK Watch Winder Review" on RUclips. Hope that helps.
thanks, I have watches w leather straps and my winder is no good for them. (it bends the leather in to square shape)
Chinaman Champ You're welcome. I know what you mean, that's annoying. Good luck with your new winder!
cool
Thanks
nice review and watch, however you sound like a robot if I may say so
Thank you for your feedback! Haha, I know! I will try to sound a little less like a robot in my next video ;)
Have a good day!
if its a review try to give some more opinions and experiences rather than just stating facts
Thanks for the feedback. I think you will like my latest video ;)
Erik Ternsjö svensk btw?
for the price you pay for this, the strap better stay shiny for 20 years, let alone less than two years!
This isn't my watch but please let me know where I can find a strap that looks like new after 20 years.
Watches are meant to be worn :)
When you purchase one, tell the dealer you want a few straps at no charge as part of the deal.
Scott H how about i also tell him to change the watch to a seiko? will that last longer?
+Scott H Good suggestion, thanks for sharing!
+monkeymanprophecy Maybe, let me know if it does ;)

Very good watch. Very good brand. Very good complication and metals. Ugly as all hell honestly looks like shit. Very good watch though.
Hadn't been for the brand image the watch would have unanimously been considered *ugly*.
