Difficult choice. But I tend to agree with you. Apart from those reasons you mention, such as versatility, the major factor is the legibility for my aging eyes. The date and month windows of 5205 are easier to read!
Hi Dylan so if I were to purchase the 5205R, am I able to choose the kind of buckle as I really like the clasp one they had on 5396. Thanks and great video.
Patek: we need to create a watch that bridges the gap between a date-time watch and a perpertual calendar. Checks the grey market prices of a plain Nautilus, and a perpetual calendar chronograph... Virtually the same, if not the complicated watch costs less.
I think that the 5205 is an easy choice. It’s easier to read every time that you glance at it because it’s a sector watch everything is laid out in easy to read sections. Its dial section is also prettier and more expressive, welcoming and larger in area. It’s casual and less forbidding in character.
The semi-perpetual calendar often gets forgotten(as in the breitling navitimer olympus). It‘s totally underrated at 5000€ for a navitimer with semi perpetual calendar.
5396 - just perfect. Need to figure out a way to get myself one of these.
The blue in the 5396 did it for me. It is easily one of my favorite watches.
Miss this guy. Always loved the house music he would clip in before and at the end of the videos.
Is he gone?
@ they just haven’t uploaded so I guess?
5205 does it for me. Excellent review
Great video. I was considering these exact two models, and I just settled on the 5205R with the black face.
love your review, you always dive in the history first
Great review
Had both. Now only 5205. Totally satisfied!
yup, I like the 5205 as well.
5205, easy choice!

Patek actually introduced the moon phase on the 5036, which then continued into the 5146, as you mentioned.
5396 dial is more harmonious. 5205 case is something special. Patek should combine the two for the next annual calendar.
That's why I am blessed and own both. A 5205R-001 on a black strap with a deployment buckle and now a 5396g-014. ( My Corona watch )

It would be nice to hear the price
Where are you based in London?
Once again an excellent Video... both watches are dream watches.. one casual types and the other dressy types... very difficult to choose any one... 😂
Prices please?
5396....hands down
Great video. Would be nice to see a review on the 5726 leather band. Keep it up!

I made an unboxing video of my 5205R (rose gold) model, it’s gorgeous: ruclips.net/video/DeLdMkR7XJ8/видео.html
