When this popped up on my yt feed I wasn't sure if I wanted to sit through the full presentation. I am glad I did. It was a wonderful program to celebrate Canada's favorite son! I couldn't help but cry. Ron was a very gentle jockey and all he had to do was talk to Secretariat. Poor Sham was hit many times by the whip, he even cracked a bone in one of his front legs. Ron is a very special jockey. Gracious, kind and a hero to the sport of racing. God bless you and yours Ron, great job#
@@janetgallo5720 I agree. There should be a law about beating a horse so hard. Do you know if they tried to breed Sham or did they kill him? If I had a multi millionaire horse and a two bit jockey beat him- he'd be swimming in the Pacific with concrete flippers.
Wonderful video; thank you for posting. What a thrill for Ron (& his family) to be the subject of such a beautiful piece of historical art, which will forever grace his hometown ❤
There is no doubt in my mind that if not for the accident that stopped his racing career, Ron Turcotte would have been the 2nd or maybe the 1st greatest jockey in the history of racing. George Wolfe is the greatest now.
From all the video relating to the races with Secretariat, I saw a great jockey and character of a man who understood the horse and truly loved him.
Ron and Secretariat were the Perfect TEAM.💙
Don’t forget Chenery and Sweat.

And I remember feeling so bad for Sham. The jockey was supposed to be a great jockey, but he really beat Sham for more than that horse could do.
