Thank you. This interview was wonderful. It talked about all the important things, and then pets don’t emotion, and it gives continuity to the history of the great secretariat.
This is the best interview I've ever seen with any guest anywhere! Excellent job, Jonathan! Thank you so much for bringing this insight into a great man. And thank you for letting him talk about something other than Secretariat. I love to hear him talk about Secretariat, but it's got to get boring being asked the same questions over and over again. When you're as accomplished as Ron is, I'm sure it was refreshing for him to get to talk about the totality of his career rather than just the small slice that was Secretariat. Great job! What a phenomenal interview! Of all the great ones you've done, this had to be the best and the most important. Thank you so much for making this happen, and giving us something truly wonderful to preserve for the history of the sport. Gave me goosebumps listening.
I was there on that awful day Flag of Leyte Gulf threw Ron. One of the saddest days I ever spent at the racetrack. This was just a tremendous interview Jonathan you just did a tremendous job with the questions and it was an honor to finally hear an in-depth interview with a legend. thanks again
@@Relics-House Why do you feel the need to see it? I believe it happened right out of the gate. There are a number of places you can see the clip of the accident, but I doubt there is anyplace that has the entire race.
@@Relics-House pretty much all that you need to know about that accident, is that the horse was clipped, and fell with him, and he was thrown from the animal. It was a really horrific accident. It’s the sort of thing that is a nightmare for any rider.
Jonathan, Thank you for doing this rare interview with Ron Turcotte. I remember the last leg of the triple crown, the Belmont race. I was about 12 yrs old and I was watching the race along with my father and grandfather in our Brooklyn Apt. I was in awe.....I wondered "what could that jockey, Turcotte, be thinking while his horse is running like the wind?" Will never forget that race....
Secretariat was not bad at stud. But like most men who don’t look at things equally, Secretariat produced daughters that were just as important as sons. Because they turned into broodmares and gave you great sires, like storm cat , AP Indy, gone West. Etc
The syndication of both Secretariat and Riva Ridge in 1973 are what saved the Meadow Stable. The winnings on the track were not what saved the farm. Christopher Chenery died in January of 1973, and the taxes had to be paid. Just clearing that matter up.
I would have thought that they could have created a treatment for laminitis, perhaps even an artificial hoof. If they had then Secretariat would probably have lived another ten or eleven years. After all he had a much larger heart than normal and he really loved life. You could tell this by the way he ran, even off the course in his own pasture. He just loved running.
12 won todays 6th by less than an inch, but the best ever, Andy Serling was able to call it with the utmost certainty . We are blessed to have such greatness among us
I just looked at the 9th at Bel today, Friday. Serling dismissed the 6 as "dont think hes good enough, yarow beat him last time" This imbecile overlooks the fact that Weaver is hot lately, and Castellano is finally riding well again. winner 12-1 Most overrated analyst in history.

Very good video.

Thank you Jonathon!
Thank you
Jonathan thank you for this amazing interview
Thank you. Appreciate it!!!
He met the Queen?!! Wow! She loved horses and racing. She met a top level, elite jockey for sure. She should have Knighted Ron.
Might of knighted Seth Hancock if he’d sold her Nijinsky lol
Great interview

It was a very sad day. I was there also.

Thank you. Appreciate the comments.
He paid his dues, learned about horses from the ground up! People don’t want or know what it means to do that.
Great to hear from Ron Turcotte... very interesting and informative interview 👍

Ron Turcotte and Calvin Borrell are to Jockey's as Larry Bird is to Basketball, THE GOATS
They both certainly got the best out of every horse they mounted. Borel never gets the credit he deserves

I tried to ask him to come on the show. I think he'd like it if he did. He blocked me.
@@PastTheWireTV I think he's blocked 12 million horseplayers. I didnt know there were that many
He has a heck of a personality for a front man.
@@PastTheWireTV Years of ticket tearing and riding the subway to work. C'mon, who can blame him
