still here 2/6/2024 Are they still alive?
3/7/24
2/11/24 still rockin'
you bet. The Cult Forever!
You really only get that sound with a Gretch, with that big body there is no hugging going on, its long arm only.
She sells sanctuary by the cult one of the best songs to hit this planet great fucking song.
I'm an old boomer. When everybody was swooning to Guns & Roses in the 80's The Cult was my band.
@Doctor Detroit yeah, you're right. 28 in 1985 was old.
The Cult were better than G&R IMHO. G&R has two, three..(since "Use Your Illusion" was separated) albums while The Cult has no single bad album and never disappeared for such a long time.
I'd take these guys every day of the week and twice on Sunday over Guns and Roses. Guns were OK but to me overhyped.
Its kinda mad slash was from stoke on trent and billy was from Bradford
Coincidently, in…’88 my friends and I went to see The Cult play at Seattle’s Paramount Theatre. Guns and Roses was an unknown opening act. Never has an opening act BLOWN THE HEADLINER AWAY such as that day. Axel was 100% awesome and every new song (to us) was amazing. And, Ian was as horrible sounding that night as he is in this video. The Cult deserves a better frontman. Anyway, we left bigger G&R fans.
One of the most underrated bands of the 80's Love me some Cult!!!
This song will never, ever, ever age. Timeless classic.
Yeah provided they don't sing it the way they did when they came to Perth Australia.
I concur
Such Is the story when It comes to pieces of jewelry ❤
Agreed
And awesome Matt Sorum on drums 💪
Didn’t understand a word he sang but that is one of the most iconic guitar riffs of all time. I’m a Cult member forever.
Great comment...Baba beeza bop.

Oh the heads that turn, make my back burn. The sparkle in your eyes, keeps me alive. The world turns, the world drags me down. I'm sure in her you'll find sanctuary. SANCTUARY!
I'm 65 and this never gets old .
Isso é o bom do rock!
I am 64 and agree wholeheartedly!!!
Still one the absolute best guitar riffs in rock history! 😍
What. A. Timeless. Song.
Billy Duffy is genius
Y stupid man!!!!
It is an awesome riff.. agreed .. not sure about the 'best'?
30 years later and this song still rocks...
There are three certainties in life. Death, taxes, and this song rocking.
Forever
agreed, and Billy Duffy was one of the coolest cats out there
Pretty sure some lyrics were different. Not right
@@flaviorocha5607 +1
Song was used in a commercial for O’Neill. It blew me away. The surfaction, the blonde and the song.
Everytime I here the opening riff I can’t help seeing that girl in my memory.
The sparkle in your eyes, keeps me alive! Rock on Cult! 🤘
These guys are highly underrated. Handful of songs that rock big time. This tune is killer.
Totally agree!
They’re hardly underrated
@@benallmark9671 You tell em man.

Educating my kids on what real music is about. This is in my car and played LOUD!
There will never be music this good again, I feel so lucky my era witnessed such greats like the Cult, best song ever. Still rocking to it in my 50’s Love it 😍
Rock on lady ! Cult forever !
You are right , still here with you rockin the night away......🤘🤘
The first time I heard this song was on the radio when I was a soldier in 1989 and it's been my favorite ever since.
The Gretsch guitar he plays on this classic song has an otherworldly sound to it! Long live The Cult!!! Drive to this and you go from 60mph to 90mph in no time.
This song makes you fly... pure magic and power, and never stops! The Cult 4 ever!!!
Matt sorum makes every band hes been in sound so much better. Brilliant drummer
true
What an absolute banger. You cannot beat rock music 🤟🤟
It's not just that Billy's guitar playing is amazing, but he also 'plays' the role of 'cool guitar player' better than anybody else
That guitar work is incredible
Matt’s drumming is solid as a rock.
The Cult are one of The best rock bands !!!
Simple like that!
This recording is one of The best in quality and presentation about The Cult !
I love the tone of Billy Duffy's guitar... He is not a fancy player but he plays with conviction and impact....
ye he does the job asked and does it without fuss and bullshit
I saw another version where he is playing a Gibson Les Paul instead of the normal Gretsch it does not resonate the same, not terrible by any means but the Gretsch has a superior tone and resonance.
with much impact.
@@ronaldballantine6556 i own both and i prefer my Gretsch Electromatic. it just chimes.
@@richardornelas2319 chimes perfectly describes the Gretsch.
Touche this will keep rocking for the ages
You know this song then you know the beastiest, grungiest ,alternative song ever flipping written !!!Brian Midnite says so! The world drags me down!!
oh un clasico actualmente lo canto lo bailo sin parar excelente cancion su letra su armonia su estilo y su sonido envolvente
I’m 30 years old and have loved this band for years! Imo one of my favorite older bands they are full of energy and great soul and feel! 👌
This drummer is amazing, great sound, and precision.
Got to love Matt Sorum, his drumming with Guns N Roses and Velvet Revolver (to name a few bands he's been in) I think is just as precise and amazing
Most of us just say a legend of the game ❤
One of the best true rock bands of all time. Freaking love Billy’s playing. And mats drums and what about the bass !!! This bass line with the drums just sit in the pocket better then ever. So good so good.
I saw the Cult open up for Billy Idol In 1987 and for the first couple of songs during Billy's set the crowd was still chanting the Cults name...Billy got pissed and killed it! Great show!!
Who is still rocking to this in 2020 this guy!
Definitely me !
I'm 62. And love THE CULT!!! I can't wait till summer and my neww T shirt.
I'll be listening to it in 2040

Matt Sorum such a precise and powerful drummer.

When music was music!!!!
I loved this song in the 80s and I love it now. A classic. I do miss Ian's dance stepping from the original video, though.
57 and im rocking it with the cult, ian still has some moves
Bruv you know it
He was sexy 30yrs ago....still is!!
If you crossed Billy Idol and the Doors this is what you would get.
HBD Billy Duffy! 60 years ♥
William Henry Duffy (born 12 May 1961) ♥
I love Matt’s drumming,
GREAT cruisin' tune!
Killer performance of a completely killer tune. And the drum sound is monstrous.
Love the drummer, awesome tone and meter , plus a load of talent.
Billy!!! My favorite guitarist (he and EVH)
Rock classic with solid drumming and driving lead guitar. Ian’s lyrics make it almost impossible to not get up and dance (as they’re doing in the back of the crowd). Notice too how many videos of this hit are on RUclips in addition to dozens of covers! A testament to the power of this awesome hit.
billy Duffy sure can play ...he makes this tune always has
Billy Duffy - riffmaster extraordinaire. Doesn't get his due...
This is just beautful! My band has covered this song for almost 20 years! Such an amazing song to perform live - it's like flying.
I didn't discover the Cult till 3 yrs ago. The 80's was my scene so to speak don't know how I missed them. This song is definitely one of the greats in my mind. Timeless.
Good for you and I totally agree the 80s were a great time for music such as this : )
Happened to me as well! I knew the name and saw a few pics but their music wasn't played anywhere while we were tortured endlessly with Collins, Supertramp, Zeppelin, Paul Hardcastle, U2 and Crap Shop Boys, and now this! A blast from the past! I'd give every song of Metallica or Rammstein for one riff by THE KULT !!!!!!!!!
Billy is my favourite guitarist.no pretense no showboating just pure and simple rock and roll
Ian is easily on the Frontman Top Ten List. Whole band is great!
I have been singing this for 30 years and never get tired of it !!!!!!!!!!! What a great band. We used to play Sanctuary as enthusiastic amateurs, just a rocking song and band. The white 335 is quite distinctive, he's been playing that one for ages. oh boy :)
Ian’s voice is still really strong, it’s impressive!
A beautifully simplistic and elegant guitar riff that is one of the best of the last 35 years.
1 kick ass song gretch is singing
1 kick ass song gretch is singing
This song is legendary and still rocks over 30 years later.
Saw them when they first came out and still feel the same way outstanding
Timeless....
Depos de trinta e três anos essa canção, não; não musicalidade, ela simplesmente trasnborda, ultrapassa barreiras. Espetacular!❤
Played this in a cover band 15 years ago...one of my favs
The cult brought up with them and still with them brilliance 👍👍👍
That voice...Ian you will always be the man! Love you guys since 1985
I seen them live honestly probably the best concert I've.ever been to it was like a divine experience amazing energy 🙏🏻✝😇
Billy Duffy is an incredible guitarist, and when Matt Sorum joined there was an added punch to the songs. I liked him being in the band.
And Billy Morrison!!
Fuck yeah Matts drums have POWER🔥
Iconic, since 1984 Ian is and always be the man, powerful vocally, physically, saw them in 2006 for free house of blues Atlantic City NJ USA
One of the best rock'n roll bands
Billy Duffy is such an underrated guitarist ... Guy never gets the accolades he deserves ...

I have followed the cult since 1984 and my friends the word you are all searching for is sincerity ,if you can't boogie then don't. Andy
Simple the best band in the world, i saw this show twice in Curitiba, Brasil!!!! Amazinggggg!!!!
Смотрю и слушаю уже ...-ндцатую реинкарнацию этой песни за вечер - хит он и есть хит!!! Очкруто!!!
Friend?
This was their best lineup. Epic band that should be in the Rockin Roll Hall of Fame
Ian is a bad ass front man!
I love the original video to this song his swag is cool as f..k!
I've been listening to these guys since 1990 I guess, didn't know much about them. All of sudden I'm 65 TODAY. thank you, and I can't get enough....what the frig has happened to moi..?
It literally doesn't matter what he sings, as long as it sounds close enough... I made out maybe 3 actual words...
And yes, I LOVE this band and song.
Your correct I know the lyrics but when he sings them I'm like what the fuck is he singing! Anyway Rock n roll lives forever !!!!
I saw them live in 89 when I was a teenager. Still to this days it's in my top 5 live shows of all time and I've been to a ton of concerts.
When I started playing guitar Billy Duffy's tone was what I chased..
I'm the same, Saw them when I was 16 at the Playhouse in Edinburgh in '87. Incredible gig
Surely his tone is set by the guitar ?
The sonic temple 89 tour.
@@yandman26 average guitar player here, but seems like a tasty combo of reverb, tape delay and light chorus
@@yandman26 its a combination of everything. Guitar, amp, effects, and settings on each. The combinations are endless.
Yes, Yes, Yes. Glad they make new music and tour. Such a cool sounding band.
Heavy & Solid performance from drummer Matt Sorum- Great!!
prob played this a few thousand times andthtey still kick it out with high energy... wow
mark dirigible That Gretch screams rock an roll!!!!!!!
Sorum layin it down solid as per usual.
The expressive power of the sound architecture breaks with any form of transcription of the real to
attach itself to the expression of an explosive universe. Colors and rhythm of this composition are a language that gives life to exaltation !
Puro Rock and ROLL, no más, no menos, así es como debe de ser, música, ritmo, voz, presencia y sentimiento.
Brilliant song and the drum kit sounds amazing
That's Matt Sorum who was also a drummer in GNR.
When you've sung this song for nearly 30 years, I think you are entitled to the odd day when it's slightly off....... The Cult is still one hell of a Rock band!!
Bit more than slightly off, vocals are a fucking joke
Ian seemed exhausted, maybe less jumping around would have helped xD when your body is 50+ and your mind is 20 x) you gotta love the guy!
Slightly off? That's like saying a fat chick is a supermodel having a bad day.
@@suparosc02 Ian is 60 something now, and he doesnt sound very good well, i mean look at the She Sells Sanctuary reconstruction. Hes aging, and he will never have voice like in 80s or at least 00s

The Quintessential rock song
It's a shame that this band doesn't get as much attention as other rock bands. I love the pure power and energy of this band and maaan this is pure rock'n roll my favorite song is black sun she sells sanctuary and love removal machine.
Billy Duffy, master of the White Falcon!!!
