A very bittersweet episode for me. College class of '94, GangStarr's discography was the background music to my all night study sessions, cross-country road trips with friends, and romantic dinner dates. SIGH. I really miss this era of Hip Hop and I really miss Guru.
I agree with Moment of Truth being their best, such a classic record. Above the Clouds features yet another memorable insane killer verse from Wu-Tang’s Rebel INS Inspectah Deck. It even received 4 1/2 mics from The Source, imo it’s a 5 mic album
I might agree with you about Moment of Truth should get 5 Mics, maybach. Although, MOT had a few tracks that were just ok (like "Above The Clouds" with Inspectah Deck). I love INS and I love Guru's verses. But Premo's production could've been better. It sounds like a RZA-produced track than a DJ Premier-produced track.
Bruh one of the best yet is a great record. Primo did great beats and integrated Guru's bars just like he was still alive. And he's spitting truths with outtakes from 20 years ago. It's actually better than No More Mr. Nice Guy
A lot of people sleep on Guru when it comes to discussing great lyrists. As for me, he's definitely one of the best yet. I like his monotonous voice, poetic style and rhyme schemes Thanks a lot for making a video about one of my favorite rappers. When is the time for Rakim?
His "monotonous" tone grew on me! Lol! It was different and, yes, poetic. Anyone else saying those verses couldn't pull it off. For a long time, honestly, I didn't know WHY it liked Gurus delivery so much!
They’ve never dropped a bad album. Manifest was definitely a standout single on the first album. If you ask four people what’s their favorite Gang album, you’ll get four different answers. One of the greatest Hip Hop acts..
Props on doing an episode on one of my favorite groups. I agree with most of the list. 1. Moment of Truth 2. Hard to Earn 3. Daily Operation 4. Step in the Arena 5. The Ownerz 6. One of the Best Yet 7. No More Mr. Nice Guy I think one thing that should be noted is how Premier strayed away from jazz samples on Hard to Earn to separate Gang Starr from GURU's Jazzmatazz series. That new dark sound really worked for them and stands out in their catalog. Also, while it might not be their best album, Daily Operation is my absolute favorite from them. Its my go-to & the one i listen to most.
I can see this list being contentious. But that’s the beauty of Gang Starr. Moment of Truth is that case of being the people’s fav, but not their best album. I would argue that it has aged the best out of their catalogue.

NO MORE MR NICE GUY album by GANG STARR is the reason I am a life long GANG STARR fan. They are my all time favorite since 1989. NO MORE MR NICE GUY LP by GANG STARR spawned the hit singles: MANIFEST & POSITIVITY. That album was amazing when it came out. This guy does not know what he is talking about.
Solid list! Been listening to Gang Starr since my young tape days. Even though I'm in Boston now, I always appreciate the local lines he dropped in his rhymes. Growing up, Group Home temporarily lived in the same city as me and I saw them a bunch of times at local parties. Hard to Earn is so hard to top. I remember picking up Moment of Truth day 1 and still have it on my CD rack.

Nah we definitely asked for that album. And we're still hoping there's more. More unreleased stuff is fine. Context. Don't put it up there with work where BOTH worked together in a studio. This is like half of him is missing. We get his vocals but not really the energy unique to a moment in time. But I never went in expecting the best or to top any of their albums. It's in its own category FOR ME.
By the late 90s, Hip Hop was falling apart and descending into chaos in my opinion. One of the few positive spots I took refuge in was the Jazzmatazz albums and Rawkus Records artists. By the early 2000s I was done. Black Eye Peas kicked out the Black girl for Fergie.

100% agree with Moment Of Truth. That CD of the album is probably one of the best of all time. It looks like a vinyl record
