And the first time I heard a Preemo beat was Biggie's "Unbelievable" on Ready To Die. Guru does talk about more real and relatable topics then the rest. But I've been a big fan of all 3 groups since the mid 90s. I was a huge EPMD fan at one point though. I even made a song inspired by "You Gots To Chill".

If I'm not mistaken, the jazz persona of the group described by DJ Premier, basically came from GURU'S influence from his father, The Late , Honorable JUDGE Harry Elam, Sr. Whom was an avid Jazz music listener.

Guru’s flow and lyricism is unparalleled. I think he’ll always be my favorite MC. Sucks that by the time I discovered him in high school was a few months after he died. I’ll never get to see a show but I’m grateful for all the classic albums he made, guru along with big L, BIG, Nas and pac all really put me on to appreciating hip hop. Miss the boom bap era and the diggin in the crates for vinyl samples and where lyricism and flow was what it was alll about. Side note I had a friend who was about 12 years older than me and I forget exactly how it happened but Guru was doing a show in Orlando in my hometown and he was big in the music industry at the time and he was actually sent to pick up guru from the airport and drive him around and basically make him happy. He told me right when he got picked up guru asked to go get some weed and they picked up some super fire and guru was like ya gotta smoke this blunt with me. Funny my friend was a lil Jewish white dude who ended up being a lawyer, you wouldn’t picture the two together smokin blunts. He showed me a photo of him and Guru, mad jealous he got to live thru the 90’s era and hang with a legend
