Without even tasting it, I can tell you Devil’s Cakes are in the bottom of sales because people like my grandma would never buy something with “devil” in the name.
And yet "Devil's Food Cake" is a Southern staple at any bake sale. Like it's an ancient recipe that has been in potluck recipe books every church in the bible belt has produced since the early 1900's.

YES on the strawberry Swiss Rolls! I discovered them a few months ago on a work trip (they don't sell them in my area) and now every time I go back to that area I make a grocery run specifically just for them.
I saw the Strawberry Swiss Rolls for the first time 2 weeks ago. And, they are criminally under advertised. Also, Little Debbie, consider this: Gingerbread crème pies.

My dog loves the unicorn cakes. He knows what the box looks like and anytime he hears something crinkle in the kitchen, he comes running to see if it is a unicorn cake being opened.
My dog does this with Graham crackers. If she hears one lil crinkle of the package she wakes from a deep sleep 😂. Like how!?

It's a recommendation. Just means it doesn't have a bar code, so price it yourself. They just didn't know how to say it, bless their hearts.

I have seen convenient stores selling Great Value products! I know they will sell those snacks individually.
They also package some for individual retail sales. That's what they have at the gas station.

I can’t believe the weird, raisin cream cookie pies aren’t in the bottom seven. I know there are some die-hard fans of oatmeal raisin cookies out there … but, for the majority of people, that’s the “well, it’s better than nothing” cookie.
That's shocking to me, I have never seen anyone buy those. I would never! 😂
I like them better than everything in this list except maybe the gingerbread, which I eat after dunking them in coffee. I think it is one of the old school little debbies and it is sweet without being as overpowering as some of the other options.

The okapi has zebra legs and is in the giraffe family although it doesn’t have a long neck. It’s pretty weird too being as it looks like a horse who got a zebra butt and legs.

Damn you! I'm crying from nostalgia. Friday night at midnight, me and my best friend Ronnie out in the woods drinking beer we stole from Uncle Lonnie Ray and the Virginia Slims we stole from Aunt Elle while they were at different honky tonks, allegedly being watched by Ronnie's very pregnant 14 year old sister, finding our way back to the trailer by the glow of the stained glass swag lamp through the window. 1974 was a damned good year to be 5 years old.

I'm pretty sure the primary reason that these don't sell better is that stores don't carry them. At least around me, the only one of those that I've ever seen for sale in the store was the Fancy Cakes, and even those are only available occasionally.

The gingerbread cookies used to be year-round, and they were my favorites! Then they went and made them seasonal releases. They only just started bringing them back outside of the Christmas season. I make a point to buy a box whenever I see them now.

Our town's school mascot is the zebra -- the Claremore Zebras -- so Zebra Cakes and Zebra Cake Rolls sell very, VERY well here.

As a diabetic since I was 6 and now 42. I eat all of these as a sugar raiser. Don't get me wrong, I like new and unusual flavors because how many mountain dews do we have and how many of them are sugar free. Unicorn Cakes are for a 6 year old but as someone that didn't get a true southern upbringing, aka I was the one weird kid drinking the unsweetened T, It is quite good as an adult. Love what you do, cause I agree and like seeing someone do what I one day wish to do, Eat alot of Little Debbies and not Die. GODBLESS yall

If Little Debbie put TWO gingerbread men together with cream they would be awesome!! And I agree that Devil Cakes would be great with strawberry, but they would then be in competition with the Cherry Cordials at Christmas
It's odd seeing Unicorn Cakes and Zebra Cake Rolls on the bottom seven in sales. My family owned a Little Debbie distribution route for like 30 years, and though they weren't one of the core sellers, they would sell a few cases a week in the big stores. Comparatively, some products were like two cases a week max for the entire market. Regional preferences and store sets matter a lot though for overall sales, so it's not too surprising. Also as a small tidbit, Gingerbread Cookies were originally year round, then pulled to be seasonal in the late 2000's - early 2010's iirc. I was so excited to see them back to year round, they're some of my favorites personally!
I think a lot of the "regional preferences" are decided by the store owners, and/or poor marketing. I've never seen any of these in a store near me, except for the Fancy Cakes, and even those are only occasionally available. I didn't know some of these even existed before today.
You are a wealth of knowledge! Now, what is the real difference between Fancy Cakes and Zebra Cakes? Anything besides the drizzle? And how do Oatmeal Cream Pies do, because it's my whole family's favorite.

I usually just buy the Swiss Rolls. Put them in the fridge; eat them while they are cold. The vast amount of sugar doesn't hit you as fast, and you can eat more of them. 😁

Matt, I'm vibing with you so much in this video! I saw the title for this video when it came out and knew I had to watch it when I could, then today when I finally had some free time I realized what I REALLY had to do: buy too many Little Debbie cakes for myself and eat them while I watch. I did not get these products, they were just what gas stations had. The only overlap was zebra rolls, and they are good! The gas station was selling them in the 'get rid of 'em' pile. I also had the chocolate chip version of the snickerdoodle pies. Same table. They are missable. All the rest were top sellers though. I got a whole bunch, and then ate like three and feel like I'm gonna die. You are a brave man for what you do.
I also never knew where you where, more specifically than 'the southeast,' you do such a good job of trying to represent everybody. But central AL, all right! Being from northern AL, I know what you mean. Roll Tide! (though not a proud day for that today). Thanks so much for all you do!

My heart melted watching a big old dude going ape over Little Debbies. ❤️ I haven’t been down to the States in years, but when I did, I would go to the drugstore and buy up every kind of Little Debbie they had. I loved them all. Swiss Rolls were my favourite.
If it doesn't have cinnamon sugar on top then it isn't a snickerdoodle.
Seriously. Snickerdoodles are my favorite cookies and I love to bake them. Those look nothing like a snickerdoodle.
When I worked at a bakery someone put salt in the cinnamon sugar mix, and we found out because someone brought back a salty donut. I had already made hundreds of snickerdoodles with SALT! 😭

I worked with a girl, probably early 20s, who said that she had never had a little Debbie Swiss roll. What!!?! I asked her why her mother never loved her. At my house, that's what we ate for breakfast on school days. They're the best thing to get your brain going in the morning.

I was actually in the middle of a workout listening to this. For some reason you're reading that recipe on the back of the devil squares box made me start laughing out loud so I had to stop. And your assessment of the zebra cake roll was pretty much what I had expected it would be even though I have never eaten one.

I like the Gingerbread men. You have to get a fresh box, though, or warm them up a few seconds. We used to be able to find Archway molasses cookies, but I don’t see them anywhere. So this is the only molasses type cookie that isn’t a ginger snap. I buy them for my mom, too. Molasses has some helpful properties, so please don’t get rid of them.

I think many of these are lower in sales because the stores don't stock the entire line. They often only sell what they know sells which are the classic ones. Recently had a strawberry cake roll for the first time a couple of months ago. Wasn't a favorite at room temp, but freeze it & eat it? Heavenly. Doesn't taste overly sweet.
Cherry Cordials are my all time favorite; but, they only sell them during the month of February. Why, Little Debbie, why?

I'm from South Florida, but a lot of my family is in central Florida, which is indeed the "South". I loved your opening 😂 however, some of us are hypoglycemic and a fast metabolism and enjoy cake in similar amounts just to keep a homeostasis but don't get big❤. We still have to workout to keep away flab. Just saying I share the affinity. Loved this🤣❤️

As a retail associate, i can tell you that not only are they making those Christmas tree cakes, this year theyll have Christmas tree cake bagged mini donuts, and mini muffins.
McKee i dont really care, can you please just double the yearly production of the original Christmas tree cakes? They'll sell. If, by some miracle, someone finds a box after Christmas, they dont need to be reduced to half price. The customer will celebrate and happily report the occurrence on social media. Its guaranteed money!!
My favorite seasonal LD is pumpkin delights. Last year by mid October you literally couldn't find them anywhere. They stop making them early so they can start mass producing christmas items.

Grew up with one. They were very sturdy and durable. But also very uncomfortable. The cushions were very firm. And you couldn't stretch out on them for the arm rest were solid wood. Plus being 6'5 my legs would dangle over the arm rest.
