I suggest you use WAGO connectors to splice the speaker wires. you can glue them down and just lift the lever to release a wire. I use them on speakers, clocks and on loop antennas in the back of the cabinets. I use the WAGO 221-2401 inline Lever-Nuts.
Good idea, I have a ton of the male/female type connectors I use, left over as a crane technician for 30 years. I like the WAGO inline connectors and perhaps will order some in the near future.
