Definitely an overhated animation. Honestly gave me the same chills as the telesnap version, but the TARDIS at the beginning was pretty laughable. The backgrounds and actual movements are really well done. I just don’t think many people wanted a drastic shift in style after the previous two so immediately jumped on the hate train because of this.
I think in black and white it works better than in colour. I'm not a huge fan of the story, but think the animation works well, the sets / background elements I think do help the animation a lot.
@MonekoEcho it's barely the same team as it was back then. The company changed a lot after becoming Big Finish Creative, so there was only really a couple of the same people involved
I thought the combination of animation style and colours made this story look very 'Scooby Doo'. As a result I prefer the B&W version. Thanks for your video, which was interesting as always. I'm intrigued to see your next one, as Web Episode 3 is a bit contentious! Very excited though about Evil of the Daleks!
Alongside The Macra Terror, this is one of my favourite animations. I really like the way the animations make the sets and action a lot grander than the original.
While I agree it's not the best, it's by no means a bad animation. I genuinely really enjoyed it, I think it just came down to people's personal preference.
Whilst I do quite like this animation it’s not my favourite. I have a feeling that the animation would’ve been better without the pandemic though Would love to see that vid on the Collection Boxsets which you mentioned at the end
Seriously awesome use of the work of TLDR's Jack Kelly. Really enjoyed recognising those. A credit for him in your description might not go astray though?
I quite enjoyed this animation but Fury from the Deep is my favorite DW story ever so it'd take a lot to make it unpleasant for me (maybe along the lines of the recent Web of Fear?). The colour wasn't a problem for me as I usually watch the animations in B&W for the true 60s experience. Troughton stories in colour just feel wrong to me.
Fury is one of my favourite stories, so to see this animation don't really give me any of the sort of atmosphere that the telesnap reconstruction gave me is rather disappointing. For me, making more bigger sets for this story's animation doesn't work. The cramped spaces really make the seaweed and gas a bigger threat for me, so taking that away, it just isn't working for me. Plus some of the direction, animation, it looked pretty poor. I do hope that this story gets a chance of another Special Edition relook that the Power of the Daleks had.
I said it before & I’ll say it again, fantastic video! In my opinion, with the exception of the main control room (which looks way too spacious & bright), the set & locations of the animation are fantastic but it is let down by the character animation which is very generic (also, what was going on with Jamie’s sad face in Ep. 6? 🙃) The music in this is absolutely fantastic! The 2nd best score in the 2nd Dr’s Era (just behind The Invasion by Don Harper) and definitely one of Dudley Simpson’s best works!
Looking back at this, I don't think Fury of the Deep is bad, and the animation is pretty good, but I do somewhat feel that this story kind of works better as audio only
This animation gets a lot of unnecessary hate. I actually think it's one of the nicest looking animations, and I really like the animation style. The backgrounds are absolutely gorgeous. The only criticism I have really is the monkey arms, but all animations have their drawbacks. Really don't understand people's problem with this one.
I strongly dislike the scooby doo style animation used in this story, really makes it hard to enjoy. The story is suppose to be scary and the animation doesn’t pull that off at all. Compare the surviving scene with oak and quill from episode 2 with its animated counterpart and it’s a drastic difference. I much prefer Macra terrors animation. Great video btw, really enjoying this series.
@MonekoEcho no worries mate, everybody’s entitled to their own opinions. One of the great things about Doctor who is that it is so vast that it has eras and stories for everyone! 😄
Back in the eighties, I listened to the original soundtrack, ( no narration), on a couple of TDK C-90s, which was a copy of a copy....... Watched the Loose Cannon recons, listened to the narrated soundtracks, both of them, read the book. Watched many other recreations and animation made by fans in their bedrooms; all great stuff. I was really looking forward to this official animation. I liked it, but I felt / feel that it could have been so much better. Its not as claustrophobic as the original, the portrayal of Mssrs Oak and Quill are a bit off. The arms are too long on all the characters. The effect of the sound waves ( the red rings) was a bit crap. One small thing that, for some reason, really irritated me was the guards always having their faces covered, bizarre. Still, good to have, until the original is found. Fat chance!
Not the best animation, but by no means the worst (and way better than parts of the original release of Power of the Daleks - which you covered excellently in an earlier video). I think one thing that benefits this release over most of the others is that the whole serial has had to be animated. For all that I appreciate the efforts to complete Patrick Troughton's era, I do find sticking the odd animated episode or two in the midst of live action episodes detracts from both the animation and the live action. My favourite of these hybrid releases is still the excellent Invasion.
black and white and as it looked originally. I can care less about what they thought would look better. What a joke. Won't be watching. Plus I hate the Jamie/Victoria episodes. BYE FELICIA.

I actually don’t think this animation is that bad. It’s really underrated.
I think people were quite quick to bash it after The Macra Terror and The Faceless Ones unfortunately
@MonekoEcho it's barely the same team as it was back then. The company changed a lot after becoming Big Finish Creative, so there was only really a couple of the same people involved
I enjoyed it.
I quite like the animation style on Fury from the Deep, it's much better than Web of Fear.

Again, fabulous. I love watching this in black and white. With the music and sound it’s really creepy.
The animation would suit: Galaxy 4, the underwater menace, the abominable snowmen and the space pirates.
Hail to the algorithm for bringing me here, nice work!! Subbed.

i'm sorry. i'm not exactly sure what that is?
I appreciated the animation style but I agree the lesser use of shadows and lighting is notable.
Good video as always

I've not experienced it audio only, but i do think people were too quick to dismiss this animation :)

The animation wasn't that bad. It does look a bit like a CBBC show imo
It's the reimagining that let's it down. Better to stick to what the original creators made than trying to reinvent the wheel.

First. I absolutely love this series! well done
@404 TV lol. It's quite funny to see people get really annoyed over a yt comment.
@404 TV no one asked :)
Glad you enjoy it!

honestly don't think it's all that great. Sticking with the audio for this one.
I’m not a fan of the animation style of Fury, it looks like cheap Canadian animation. Lol
Great video though!

Well done 👏.
