Jon Pertwee was my first Doctor. He opened the door for me, giving me a taste of what was to come. But it was Tom Baker who brought me inside, sat me down on the sofa, let me kick my shoes off and take in all of the craziness that was part and parcel of his era.
@markvonschlegell4953 Jon was amazing as the Doctor. I particularly enjoyed the partnership with UNIT, The Brigadier, Sergeant Benton, Captain Yates, etc....and of course the clashes with the Master!
@reiganscott-palframan7281 God yeah! I don't think they were told how long the scarf needs to be. Just shows that some of the best things aren't intentional.
Still the longest running tenure as the character for seven years. Which is probably also why he doesn't often revisit the role since he did it for so long. He wore out that costume.
I wish that they could have included Planet Of Evil. Because that was the first Doctor Who story I saw when I was a kid and it instantly made me into a Whovian.
I met Tom Baker at a convention in Boston back in 1983. There was a meet and greet with him afterwards. I was the last person in line. One would figure the person is tired, wants to go back to the hotel or something. Not Tom. We sat and spoke for close to an hour talking about many of the episodes, production stories and so forth. He was a wonderful, charming man, very generous of his time (then again, what's time to a Time Lord?)) )
In 2006, I watched Genesis of the Daleks for the first time on DVD, a few days after my 10th birthday. And I immediately fell in love with Tom Baker's portrayal of the Fourth Doctor. Here's to 50 years!
Snd everyone overlooks the fact it’s one of the first times the show goes against what it’s always done. In most classic who you have the docto aiding one group of good aliens against a group of bad aliens. But in genesis neither side is good. The thal are as evil as the kaleds. It’s just perfect
My favourite Doctor and so many memories of a great era in the show. Hard to believe it's been 50 years since he started the role and I was such a young pup.....
Doctor Who would air at a strange time on Canadian Television back then - back when there were only a few stations - that also didn't broadcast 24-hrs/day. I remember waking up at 5:10am just to hear that intro and chew cereal while that scarf-trippin Hippy & Companion would stumble through the Galaxy... Respect
Let alone being the best Doctor, the man was the best dressed Doctor out of all of them! I loved every costume & make-up every set design, every special effect of 4th the Doctor series. How can one forget the "Mandragora Helix" or Leela's leather skin attire with matching knife shaeths! love it and remember it all. Thank-You ABC TV Australia.
I grew up with Jon Pertwee as The Doctor, and this was in the day when Dr. Who was a prime topic in the schoolyard. At the close of the giant spider story when the Pertwee Doctor returned from Metebelis Three and collapsed, then transformed into some guy much younger with dark curly hair, it was like waking up to find you had different parents. I was resolutely determined that i wasn't going to like this fellow. That he was an imposter. But in the first few minutes of his first episode as The Doctor, Baker won me over. He had charm, he had wit, he had a combination of adult moral guide and mischievous child. Oh, and he had impeccable dress-sense!
Tom Baker was amazing as The Doctor! I had seen him in several movies before they started to broadcast Doctor Who in the USA in the 80s. And already knew he was one to watch from the movies. But when Doctor Who began to air here, that is how I became a lifelong fan! His talent, his manor of ortary, his humor, his wit and skill at improvisation, even his body language. Very very impressive! The Fourth Doctor is LEGEND! Forever more. :)
'You never forget your first Doctor'... Tom Baker was my introduction into the Whoniverse, back in the '80s; and I still consider him a benchmark against whom all other Doctors are measured. He had a way of delivering a throwaway line that I find masterful (no pun intended)...
Tom Baker played the Doctor when I discovered Doctor Who. He’s my beloved Doctor. Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant reignited my enthusiasm for Doctor Who. Happy to be back in the ‘Whoniverse’. ❤️❤️
Influenced so much for the series going forward. Having Tom Baker return as the Curator was a lovely touch in the anniversary episode. Edit: it was great to see Elizabeth Sladen again, one of my favourite companies.
In The Keeper of Traker, Adric tells Tremas and Nyssa that he and the Doctor were supposed to be going to Gallifrey. Adric never got to Gallifrey but ironically Nyssa did in Arc of Infinity. In fact both stories were written by Johnny Byrne.
Love, love, love the original. Tom Baker was the best Dr Who for me. None of the other dr's can match him. He was such a wonderful actor. He will always be Dr Who for me. Love you Tom. ❤
Interesting bit of trivia: The Horror of Fang Rock 46:59 was based on the true incident of the three lighthouse keepers of Flannan Isle who mysteriously went missing in 1900; to this day no one really knows what happened to them. The Doctor quotes from Wilfred Gibson's 1912 poem Flannan Isle as they get into the TARDIS to leave.
There have been some amazing Doctors, classic and new, but Tom is the absolute GOAT. I think the Universe will shake when he passes, and I'll never be ready for that day no matter how old I get. Tom became my Doctor when I was three years old - I turn 50 this March. Tom, you are THE Doctor ... the definite article. 🫀🫀
I love the scene when he becomes outraged and angry at the Pirate Captain. The Fourth Doctor truly shows how appalled he is towards the villainy of the Captain about the destruction of other planets. Great and serious acting from Tom Baker.
In recognising William Hartnell who started it, Patrick Troughton who did the impossible by carrying it on , Jon Pertwee who elevated it and stepped back at the precise time to to give us TOM BAKER.
1:35:57 Known in history as 'The Great Ghosting'.😅 The 4th incarnation of the Doctor, is my Doctor. He gave me both critical thought process as well as adaptation to alien cultures He broadened horizons and offered.... JELLYBABIES😂
Tom Baker was MY Doctor. As an American, his was the first time I’d been made aware of the show, and his was the one who made the biggest impression on me. Ever since Robot, I was HOOKED. to this day, however, Face of Evil and the introduction of Leela was perhaps my favorite episode - perfect mix of humor, one liners (“Well, Hel-lo, Neeva! Hotline to God?!”) (“The very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common. They don't alter their views to fit the facts, they alter the facts to fit their views, which can be uncomfortable if you happen to be one of the facts that needs altering “) and a fascinating plot.
Watch and listen to Tom Baker being interviewed. Many videos exist of that online. Regardless of his incredible portrayal of Who, Baker is a fascinating wit, intellect and human being.
For the Classic Who era, Tom Baker was THE Doctor as far as pop culture was concerned. Also he made several million non-British fane obsessed with jelly babies. Not that I’m complaining 😅
The Dream Lord laughs every time the Doctor throws shade on one of his other incarnations. I was born too late to begin with the Fourth Doctor but Tom Baker is still more or less the "definitive article" in popular media since he had the gig for the longest time.
THE real Dr. Who is Tom Baker. Thumbs UP from the Card Shop in Bastrop, Louisiana [posted this Christmas Holidays 2024 in case I revisit the vid in the distant future.]
When Leela skips through the TARDIS doors at the end of 'Face of Evil', the Doctor sounds like me talking to my cat when she has got in somewhere i don't want her to be. it's so sweet!
So many we have now lost. Our dear, dear Elizabeth Sladen. Mary Tamm. And Tom himself is getting on. Yet all my beloved Doctors and companions live on in my heart, reminding me how to be brave when I need it. How to face the demons.
The most iconic Doctor of them all! Happy 50th anniversary to the Fourth Doctor!
Jon Pertwee was my first Doctor. He opened the door for me, giving me a taste of what was to come. But it was Tom Baker who brought me inside, sat me down on the sofa, let me kick my shoes off and take in all of the craziness that was part and parcel of his era.
And hide behind the sofa 😂
Unfortunately i didnt get around to the original series... But Tennant sold me as a true Whovian.
@markvonschlegell4953 Jon was amazing as the Doctor. I particularly enjoyed the partnership with UNIT, The Brigadier, Sergeant Benton, Captain Yates, etc....and of course the clashes with the Master!
@@peytonsmith5363 Seasons 8 and 9 were peak Pertwee!
The Fourth Doctor is undoubtedly the most iconic Doctor there has, is, and ever will be. Everyone recognises that scarf.
It took ages to knit a copy.
I certainly do as I have a Fourth Doctor scarf.
Took me a month to knit the scarf
The legendary Tom Baker as the 4th Doctor, the Longest ever-running on screen of the show. Happy Anniversary!!
One and a half hour of the best doctor by the official DW youtube page? This is indeed Christmas!
I wish that they could have included Planet Of Evil. Because that was the first Doctor Who story I saw when I was a kid and it instantly made me into a Whovian.
Merry Christmas 🎄
Tom Baker, not just a Doctor, but The Doctor, what a wonderful chap! Brilliant highlight reel, just an incredible set of moments.
❤
Tom Baker is, was and will always be the BEST Doctor.
Others may come close but they will never better him.
In 2006, I watched Genesis of the Daleks for the first time on DVD, a few days after my 10th birthday. And I immediately fell in love with Tom Baker's portrayal of the Fourth Doctor. Here's to 50 years!
Genesis of the Daleks was the first classic who story I saw in DVD in 2006 as well, he’s my fav doctor as well.
It’s fantastic story . Chilling too
Snd everyone overlooks the fact it’s one of the first times the show goes against what it’s always done. In most classic who you have the docto aiding one group of good aliens against a group of bad aliens. But in genesis neither side is good. The thal are as evil as the kaleds. It’s just perfect
Tom Baker's infinite charm was on display from the moment the 3rd Doctor regenerated. Happy Anniversary to the Greatest Time Lord of them all!
Best Doctor of all time 🐐
loved Tom but proffered jon. from michael from Yorkshire and proud of it
As far as these best moment compilations go, this has to be the absolute best. Whoever edited this video knows the 4th doctor era in and out.
My favourite Doctor and so many memories of a great era in the show. Hard to believe it's been 50 years since he started the role and I was such a young pup.....
Happy 50th anniversary Tom, thanks for the fantastic adventures and memories for a lifetime!
The best Doctor of the OG era
This is THE Doctor!
The definite article you might say.
State Of Decay was very special for this compilation because of how it helped to end Tom's era in a most positive way.
@ one of my favourite stories. I saw itwhen first broadcast.
Happy anniversary/birthday to my first Doctor, Tom Baker!! 🎉💙💙
Tom Baker was the best doctor out of them all
A little Tom Baker goes a long way in these old shows he brings so much to the table!
Respect
Robot Part One went out 28 December 1974, which was a strange date to start a new season.
I watch it being broadcasted into Detroit in the 70s from Canada.
Came on TVO in the evening along with that movie show with Elwy Yost.
Let alone being the best Doctor, the man was the best dressed Doctor out of all of them! I loved every costume & make-up every set design, every special effect of 4th the Doctor series. the GOAT
I love that music (the one from City of Death that we hear at the beginning of this video).
I grew up with Jon Pertwee as The Doctor, and this was in the day when Dr. Who was a prime topic in the schoolyard.

As he said ... Im THEE Doctor
Influenced so much for the series going forward. Having Tom Baker return as the Curator was a lovely touch in the anniversary episode.
Edit: it was great to see Elizabeth Sladen again, one of my favourite companies.
Liz Sladen is my all time favorite companion. I, and many lads of a certain age back then, all had a crush on her.
@@ScienceTalkwithJimMassa she was still looking good when she returned tbh.
City of Death theme is still music to my ears as much as Tom's iconic voice.
You see, all the others are "a" Doctor, but this is THE Doctor, the definite article unquestionably.
This is how Doctor Who is done ...share the Jelly babies..
Yeah, I'd totally take one, especially if the Doctor had an orange one.
The greatest and longest running Doctor Who. This was my Doctor Who, and he will always be my Doctor Who. Tom Baker was awesome.
Legend,best doc ever
Fantastic video! It could be ten hours long! Tom Baker is the Doctor. The definite article, you might say. Happy Birthday!
My earliest memories are watching this Doctor on TV in the late 70’s.
"Its the end, but the moment has been prepared for." For 50 years, actually. LOL our beloved 4th Dcotor. The definite article of Doctor Who
Love, love, love the original. Tom Baker was the best Dr Who for me. None of the other dr's can match him. He was such a wonderful actor. He will always be Dr Who for me. Love you Tom. ❤
Galaxies ahead of certain incarnations of the Doctor. Sarah and Harry magnificent too!
During the summer, he became my first Doctor to watch in the Classic Era.
I've been here for all of it.
LEGEND! 😮😱🤩😂❤❤🧣5️⃣0️⃣

Same here.

Tom Baker IS Doctor Who!
Legend of all the greatest Doctors, Tom stands out ❤
I can’t wait to finish my Tom Baker cosplay for next year!! Can’t forget the jelly babies

Greatly done, I enjoyed this
"there's no point in being grown up if you can't childish some times!". Brilliant.
Tom Baker you are still my favorite Doctor. Love you! God Bless.
Tom Baker was my Favorite Doctor
“You just hold the gun steady, Don’t tax your mind”
My partners favourite line ever!
20:58 I don't care what everyone say, this is a creepy moment and good cliffhanger.
In recognising William Hartnell who started it, Patrick Troughton who did the impossible by carrying it on , Jon Pertwee who elevated it and stepped back at the precise time to to give us TOM BAKER.
Happy 50th for Tom Baker as the 4th Doctor. 💙
The end where he fell was one of the saddest days of my young teen life!!! Gary Bailey 🌩️⚡🍀💚🦉🇺🇸🇨🇦🇬🇧🇦🇮🧳
Happy 50th anniversary to the 4th doctor and the best.
I got the brigadiers signature at a Lions club event in Suffolk when I was 9. Sounds like an Alan Partridge quote
To me there was only ever and will only ever be one Dr Who and his name is the great Tom Baker!
1:35:57 Known in history as 'The Great Ghosting'.😅
The 4th incarnation of the Doctor, is my Doctor.
He gave me both critical thought process as well as adaptation to alien cultures
He broadened horizons and offered....
JELLYBABIES😂

Dropping Sarah-Jane in South Croydon, TARDIS dematerialises:
Sarah - ' This isn't South Croydon...' 😂
This is MY doctor ❤
The best Doctor.
Watch and listen to Tom Baker being interviewed. Many videos exist of that online. Regardless of his incredible portrayal of Who, Baker is a fascinating wit, intellect and human being.
Only 51 minutes ???? When every Tom Baker moment is automatically a best moment..
Damn, no Androids of Tara? You're missing out on a great story full of great moments.
"Do you mind not standing on my chest? My hat's on fire."
Love that bit lol
"You're a beautiful woman probably" is such a lovely & very British backhanded compliment/insult & Tom Baker delivers it in that jovial way
HAPPY 50TH, TOM YOU WILL ALWAYS BE THE ABSOLUTELY CLASSIC. NONE BETTER.
For the Classic Who era, Tom Baker was THE Doctor as far as pop culture was concerned. Also he made several million non-British fane obsessed with jelly babies. Not that I’m complaining 😅
Just like David Tennant is for the New Who era. Tom got me into jelly babies too lol
Wurzel and Rasputin were the best Doctors ever, l want to travel back to the 70s, cherished memories.
Tom Baker is always my doctor.
The Dream Lord laughs every time the Doctor throws shade on one of his other incarnations. I was born too late to begin with the Fourth Doctor but Tom Baker is still more or less the "definitive article" in popular media since he had the gig for the longest time.
The Fourth Doctor cracking Boycie's neck as one of his best moments is an amusing choice.
My doctor ❤️❤️❤️
This is absolutely superb! I think my favorite Tom Baker episode is "The Talons of Weng Chiang."
That’s a story, not an episode, and you also misspelled it.
Not my personal favourite of the Tom Baker ones, but definitely one of the best.
Troughton and Pertwee I love, but Tom Baker will always be my favourite.
THE real Dr. Who is Tom Baker. Thumbs UP from the Card Shop in Bastrop, Louisiana [posted this Christmas Holidays 2024 in case I revisit the vid in the distant future.]
3rd! W Tom Baker what a brilliant classic Doctor. Mad respect for him giving us some of the most iconic stories 🔥
Happy 50th, Fourth. Watching Robot now as I type.
The 4th Doctor AND Sarah Jane? Cmon now, the BEST❤
If we all wore clothes like the crew in Robots of death, well, the world would be a better place😂😂😂
When Leela skips through the TARDIS doors at the end of 'Face of Evil', the Doctor sounds like me talking to my cat when she has got in somewhere i don't want her to be. it's so sweet!
i would love to see best of compilations of classic who doctors like this
Oh the running!! I miss the running!!!❤️❤️
This man was part of my life, God bless you Mr Baker!!!!!🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️
Gotta love the Rootons. Would have used up most pf the special effects budget that costume lol.
So many we have now lost. Our dear, dear Elizabeth Sladen. Mary Tamm. And Tom himself is getting on. Yet all my beloved Doctors and companions live on in my heart, reminding me how to be brave when I need it. How to face the demons.
'You may be A Doctor, but I am THE Doctor!'
The definite article you might say.
There is no point in being grown up if you can't be childish sometimes!
7:38 really these Daleks are my favourite of all the varieties.
Can't wait for "Robot" full serial to drop later today on the Doctor Who Classics channel. Happy 50th anniversary Fourth Doctor
