OU was picked 8th in the SEC. They play six of the seven teams picked ahead of them. One of the other two is AT Auburn. If OU can go 9-3 (5-3) against that schedule, they should not just be in the playoff, but they should be hosting. I think 9 wins are possible. Who knows, with a little luck, or dare say, Sooner Magic, maybe more.

12-0! I’m not counting this team out. There isn’t a single game on this schedule where I say, “yeah we’ll definitely lose that game.” They’re more loaded than they’ve been since probably 2007/08! And those defenses were pretty nasty back then. Our offense could be just as nasty with our receiver core and RBs. Plus we finally have great TE play as well, which we’ve been lacking. They also had something in common, Coach Brent Venables!

I as a Sooner Fan love the challenge. Rather than being sad or upset about having a more difficult schedule than Texas we should be happy the the SEC is scared of OU enough to give them what seems like the tougher schedule. But I also want to approach this at a different angle as well. In what ways is OU's schedule "tougher" than Texas schedule? Has there been a single game played this season? Are there current statistics to suggest what teams are good and what teams are bad? No! Tough Schedules do not exist in the preseason. It is only when the season is complete when you see every teams' win/loss record to determine what teams were tough to play and which teams were not tough. What teams over performed and what teams under performed. The truth of the matter is this. We are basing OU's "tough" schedule on brand recognition rather than statistics we know about the current rosters of every team. As it stands right now every team is undefeated. Every team has lost the same amount of games; therefore, rather than wining about getting a "tough" schedule, lets be happy that we will finally get the respect we always wanted when we go and upset a bunch of these over-rated teams. You go 10-2 in the Big 12 there is no chance you make even a 12-team playoff (other than the conference winner of course). You go 9-3 in the SEC based on a certain schedule and you easily are in the playoff. If OU goes 9-3 this season, they will make the playoff. Just sayin.

I can live with Alabama, Georgia, either Ol’ Miss or Florida or Tennessee popping up, in the SEC. But I’m equally ok if Texas and Oklahoma break into that finding a lot of success. They should have simply gone with a pod system - four 4-team pods, everybody plays the three teams in their pods every year (ALL rivalry games protected) and then plays half of the other teams home-and-away followed by the other half of the other teams home-and-away, Every school plays every team at least twice every four years... the only 'drawback' (if you can call it that) is that you have to play 9 conference games, but it's 100% fair and equitable. Every four year player gets to play in every stadium at least once in their career (see below) and every fan gets to see every SEC team in their stadium at least once every 4 years..

    Alabama

SEC scheduling became awful with the addition of Texas A&M and Missouri. Because the SEC office wanted to protect the cross rivalry game, each team played the same 7 teams each year with only one other cross division game rotated every other year. So, it was years before certain teams ever played each other. The SEC scheduling became essentially two mini-conferences under one head. But Oklahoma is not getting screwed, at least no more than Florida which has the toughest schedule this season by far. For the last decade, Florida had one tough schedule after another while Georgia did not. It's annoying and stupid, but don't take it personally OU fans.

Since OU dominated the big 12, it is the SEC way of trying to make the conference seem better if OU doesn't come over and instantly go 10+ wins. Cause remember all we heard from the SEC for 25 years was... "OU would only be medicre if in the SEC, so they don't deserve to go to the national championship game."

I agree they had to know. To bolster the argument that they had to know is the fact that OU’s 7 toughest opponents either have bye weeks before the Oklahoma game, or play teams like Vanderbilt, Kent St, Mercer, Arkansas. It’s my belief that the SEC wanted to bolster its reputation of being the best conference by having the school that dominated the Big 12 struggle coming into the league. I think they actually did Oklahoma a favor though. It removes most of the pressure and allows them to take a me against the world attitude. Additionally, if OU can split their 6 toughest games and win the ones they should, they’d be 9-3 with a strong argument to make the playoffs. That would be one hell of a battle tested and dangerous playoff team.

So the SEC when making 2024 schedules went by program history and used how teams did from 2013 - 2022. They divided teams into top 1/2 and bottom 1/2 based on who had winning conference records and losing conference records over the 10 year period.
The 4 teams with a losing conference record Oklahoma got were Tennessee, Ole Miss, Missouri, and South Carolina.
Tennessee was offset by Auburn being one of the teams with a winning record.
Nobody predicted in early 2023, when the schedules were made, that Ole Miss and Missouri would be as strong as they were last year or that they would be ranked as high this year.
It was bad luck, and it happens when looking at teams past to project their future.

I've asked this in the past:
Please give us a schedule rotation that keeps ALL ANNUAL RIVALRIES as that: YEARLY CONFERENCE GAMES, along with EVERYBODY playing EVERYBODY & finishing AT THE SAME TIME WITH THE SAME # OF MEETINGS. You keep talking about "parity scheduling based off last year's results", which will almost NEVER match a balanced rotation. You could have Teams A & B meet up every year while Teams A & C or Teams B & D not meet for 10+ years. Who does that benefit?
Also, with a rotation schedule format, you EASILY solve the # H/A games each year. With parity, you could have Team A needing 5 H games while Team B needing 3H (simply because the host team switches their next meeting).....doesn't sound balanced to me.
Lastly...with a rotation, you can plan road trips for games you want to see instead of: fan 1 - "When will Georgia play at Oklahoma?" fan 2 - "How would I know?".
Overall, parity WILL NEVER work in scheduling unless you don't care about distance between matchups.
FWIW, have you done this with the other conferences? 👀

Why? Just like the Big 10 knew about Nebraska, and the PAC 10 knew about Colorado. A new member who IS a mid-card performer will be TREATED as a mid-card performer. Get used to being an average team taken somewhat seriously by most of the conference.

So this means that all the guff over the past 20 years, about playing an SEC schedule is the hardest thing a team can do, isn't exactly the truth? You can't have it both ways. If the SEC would do this for Texas, who is a nobody in the world of SEC football as of today, they damned sure would have done it for Alabama and or Georgia at some point over the last 20 years. I bet you disagree though, but you're being a homer if you can't see it. To be fair, maybe you are right, but if so, then there are easy SEC schedules, and again, that means a lot of other stuff hasn't been quite as portrayed.

    • @MarkRogersVOCFB
      @MarkRogersVOCFB  2 месяца назад +1

I don’t think you listened to the video. The SEC schedule formula was so precise from 1992-2023, there were no decisions to be made. I could’ve told you what everyone’s schedule would be every year as well as ten years in advance. And no, it was not made easier for Alabama and Georgia.

@@MarkRogersVOCFB If the teams Texas is playing are "weak" then the vaunted "SEC schedule of death" for all the SEC teams who we have been assured have ALL had to play a super tough schedule year in and year out, cannot possibly be a correct assessment. Again, I'm sure you will not agree, but it still is the opposite of what all SEC fans and sports commentators have been saying for years. You cannot claim it both ways. That is what we expect from homers not professionals. Just like when the SEC used to say the Big 12 didn't play defense and OU's Stoops correctly reminded everyone that if the SEC defenses were playing NFL caliber QBs week in and week out, the SEC defenses wouldn't be playing 9-6 games. Nowadays, with the SEC having super talented QBs, often 2 or even 3 deep on the depth chart and being able to overcome injuries and graduations, amazingly there are no more 9-6 games today in the SEC. I get it, you need clicks and Texas and Dallas get clicks. Hell, you might even believe it, but it is still the opposite of what the SEC has been portraying for years.
