really stoked on the opportunity to do something like this. it's humbling to look back at my filmmaking journey and see where we are at now. i took today off because i'm really not feeling super hot. i'll see everyone tuesday morning for copper mountain opening day!
Your channel is such a gold mine. Love seeing someone live my dream - skiing in winter and racing in summer. And you make the videos feel so personal. I think you blow up soon - 50k subs minimum by end of March
As a fellow filmmaker, this behind-the-scenes video of your US Olympic shoot was so awesome! So happy you got to land this opportunity and you killed it out there especially for not having your cinematic equipment!
@Lucas- YOU HAVE EARNED this opportunity!!! Revel in these moments you just got to experience!!! Indeed a once in a lifetime (I hope you get to do something like this again...) adventure!!! Wow! What a fantastic way to expand your cinematography credentials & skills being invited to do this work! Great resume food!!! I am beyond "Stoked/Psyched" for you!!! RIGHT ON BROTHER!!! The footage you got was great! Even better & more amazing to record/interact/view National Team members skiing modified GS at full speed!!! That speed is surprising. I was allowed to ski on the men's Olympic DH course at SnoBasin, (a week later) & remember how humbling, frightening, & scary it was. As a former Jr. racer, I ski at pretty fast clip most of the time, especially compared to "Joe Q Public" at most Areas. It blew my mind they have sprinklers built in the hill to inject water onto the course to make it icy. While you are enjoying being a ski explorer this winter, perhaps it might be advantageous to have your high quality photo gear in a protective "Go Bag". That way you can get stuff transported to you quickly when necessary. I found shipping on buses is very fast, (way cheaper, (& more gentle) than typical next day carriers) to most locations.) you just have to get to the bus stops. Who knows, something like this film session could happen again! Perhaps more "work" could/will fall into your "lap". Would you consider checking if they would sponsor you for press credentials for the (3) US World Cup Races? (extra US ones this year!!!) Beaver Creek - Dec. 2nd Palisade (Tahoe) Feb 25th Aspen - March 3rd In those environments, if nothing else, imaging the adventure it could be! Also you could meet, interact, & introduce yourself to racers, teams, coaches, equipment manufacturer's & broadcast race coverage specialists in that environment. Amazing networking available there!!! Lastly, did you learn any tips you did not know on preparing your own skis? I hoped you asked for a couple of sticks/powder/compounds of the special high speed "Coke Wax" (think of F1 level technology) techs use on race skis for yourself! Sorry, I know that is a lot "stuff" in the paragraphs above, I just want to be part of the group that cheers, inspires, & encourages you while following your traveling, cinematic, skiing, racing, trekking, & hiking passions. Best regards, Mo-
morgan - thank you so much for your continued support, expertise and wisdom that you share with me and the entire community. it was definitely an opportunity that i will always remember and i was super stoked to get to interact with RCS and the rest of the members of that camp. i didnt ask for any material or product, but it was super interesting to see how the techs tune, wax and edge each ski. the attention to detail is next level!
Bro!!! So dope! That’s badass!! Glad you got a job out of all of this, that’s pretty cool. I bet that was so neat getting to see the tuning. That’s like getting to walk through the pits lol. Gotta love it. Awesome video! Hell… they’re all awesome. Keep up the good work. You’re already kicking ass. I bet you land more gigs like that.
I did the "ski bum" thing at Breck about 26 years ago. Loved every minute of it...but 8 never did it like you Lucas. I'm living vicariously through you in these bids bro. Super stoked watching your journeys. Let's gooooo 😎⛷️
Man!! Id love to lay underneath that jump with a camera staring at the Sky Chutes while the US SKI TEAM flies over my head doing 100 mph!! Love COPPER! thats a great hill to go fast on
This is so cool.. Bringing me back to my racing days.. The colder the faster.. It sure looks like they did a great job with getting that coarse ready for racing.. I miss the narrow skis and the ice.. Totally different than powder and fat skis..
They were looking for a cinematographer and expert skier. You deliver on both points and I’m so glad you had this experience. No doubt they will be excited with your work. Way to go, man!
So happy for you to get to do this. And yeah, it is nuts how fast these guys go. That's why I still think the greatest ski race I've ever seen was Vonn's last where she probably had no business being on the course with those knees/back and pulled a bronze on guts and instinct. Damn near a Chariots of Fire type moment.
Cool to see the race center at Copper in action. Even when they open to the public that whole side of the mountain is off-limits. Once the racers leave then the public gets the benefit of all the snowmaking that made early season race training possible. Only downside is that run stays fairly icy the rest of the year.
Good thing it wasn’t fully injected snow. Might not have been able to stop on the armadas haha. I coach ski racing and I’ve made the mistake of coaching on my all mountain skis with a dull edge. When it’s fully injected good luck stoping with a dull edge.
Really excited for this video to drop ! Congrats and well deserved opportunity you got ! Can you share what they end up doing with your footage once its available for public consumption?
What an opportunity - appreciate the behind the scenes look - crazy about the logistics and how you got so few runs to hit the shots. Hopefully this leads to similar opportunities. Do you think in the future you will bring all your gear so you have everything you need just in case?
thanks lucas! thought that maybe the BTS would provide some insight into the production side of things. i have thought about bringing all my gear with me, but i am fearful for the day that someone breaks into my van and steals my equipment - so by not bringing everything with me, its a safety thing so i dont lose all of my assets

Isn't Monday opening day?
@@anazndude tuesday is when the video will go out.

Loved the "behind the scenes" footage in conjunction with seeing some of the actual shots themselves; they looked stunning IMHO. Hats off, Lucas!
andreas thank you homie!

thanks joey! been having a lot of fun so far, so we'll see what happens.
The speed that these guys ski at is definitely insane! I am glad you were able to capture some of that. Props Lucas!
thanks drew! the speed is just next level.
Another great quality video! Refreshing to see a whole different side of the sport we love and Olympic caliber athletes, at that.
Thanks joe!
Seen every episode. Really enjoyed this. Awesome to see Team USA Skiers. Would love to see finished product.
thanks jake! not sure if i'll have rights to the finished product or not but we'll see!

thank you so much for the kind words, jeff! i sure hope so haha
Awesome man! Love seeing the success. Copper is one of the best mountains. Long and steep with true vert from top to bottom.
Thanks Jeff! Excited to check this place out for real one day
