Dude, you are a natural! Your reviews are some of the finest of any kind of review I’ve encountered. They are clear, concise, knowledgeable and honest.
These resort specific videos are great! Your channel has become my go-to when researching new resorts or looking for places to explore when traveling somewhere new.
It is an effect your brain has on your body to tell it to not go down and will happen on the majority of slopes you ski but lake chutes is still extreme terrain and some of the toughest in bound terrain you will ever ski
My ski popped off halfway down first time i tried these i was so pissed but it was probably my fault for not knocking off my boots good enough after the hike. Went back up after lunch and crushed it so its okau
Its the go pro wide angle shot. Very deceiving. I've done most of the top runs on peaks 8,9, and 10 at Breckinridge. I love that you can connect the run on 8 all the way down to the villages.
i had the pleasure of doing 2 days at Breck last season and did 2 runs down Lake Chutes near the end of my trip. absolutely amazing runs. definitely the steepest lines ive done so far and starting was rough but one i got in my rhythm it was all downhill and amazing from there
The Lake Chutes area might be my favorite zone of all time (minus the hike)! I've done Wacky's, Zoot Chute, and 9 Lives and I've had amazing experiences with all of them! Never done Vertical Cornice but I always assumed that it'd be harder than Wacky's. It's cool to know that there's an easier path through it, I'd love to try that one at some point! Thanks for the video, these lines aren't well-marked so it's great that something like this exists! :)
Thank you! It's not unreasonable to claim that VC is tougher than Wacky's--that first drop is pretty brutal--but Wacky's sustains a really tough overall pitch and extremely wind-susceptible face.
Thanks for the cool video. I remember Breck in the 90s before the lift to the top was added. IIRC, a poma lift dropped you off, leaving a long hike up the ridge.
My personal favorite area of Breck is called "Snow White" on the trail map...you basically just keep traversing past all these chutes and hand skier's right at the very end. There, you'll find about 1,000'-1,500' vertical of perfect steep pitch terrain and, at least when I used to hit it, I had it to myself. You can find rock features if you like, or you can just rip the 35-40 degree burn
I just did it a few weeks back (posted a video of me doing it on my channel) and just like you had the full area to myself! It was super cool and definitely worth the hike up!
I love Breckenridge and lake chutes. The hike is not long, but can be brutal if you aren’t acclimated to the altitude. First time I went up there I happened to meet a guy from my hometown. We chatted for a bit and then went our separate ways. I followed some locals down Wacky’s and maybe 15 minutes later I ran into the guy again at the bottom. He didn’t look too thrilled. Turns out he tumbled all the way down and broke his wrist on a rock. Vacation over 💀
Reminds me of just how much of Breck I've not yet skied. Of course the last time I was there imperial & the peak six chair would open in the morning and understandably close by noon due to high winds. Favorite run up there to date is taking the saddle over to peak 7 off imperial and skiing straight down the front. I believe that is the longest steep chute on the mountain, the chute through rocks is narrow enough to get your attention but no picking your way through a rock field is required.
Some skiers are many Patrolers know about the dangers created by high wind bursts, within sculpted snow formations. These can be in both open bowls, and chutes. I actually went full airborne, spinning three times within a thick cloud or swirling snow, and slammed face first against a packed wall, in a trail fork at a popular SW ski resort. My helmet had a visor, which prevented a flattened nose and being knocked unconscious.
If you want the steepest line, go to crazy Ivan 2. It is between vertical cornice and zero chute. It’s the steep line with no rocks. It is over 45 degrees steep.
Drink water. Don’t go up on your first day if your from the flatlands. I did it last week on my 4th day and still got some altitude sickness. 13k is very high up. Grew up skiing in the Andes, and that is 11k. Most resorts top at 10k. Thanks for vid.
I was eager to try out the Lake Chutes until I had to do the hike T T. I was so worn out afterwards that I had to sit down for twenty minutes. Decided to ski down Imperial instead.
This is super random, and completely unrelated to Breck or anything, but if you ever get the chance, you should make it out to Xinjiang, China. I skied there in January and March, and there is some absolutely incredible terrain out there on par with anything the Rockies has to offer. The conditions are amazing too, and the season stretches out to May or later. Because of how long it takes to get there, there really aren’t too many crowds there either! Lmk if you want more info!
We're waiting until the Bergman Bowl lift goes in before a full review, but there will be some content that involves Keystone before the start of next season!
Yeah it’s a crazy tough hike. Always tires me out and keeps me tired. While other hikes are longer yet less tiring. For example, the back 9 hike isn’t that tiring, even though it is quite long.
No way are the Lake Chutes some of the hardest terrain in North America. Squaw, Jackson, Snowbird, Alta, Big Sky, Bridger, Alyeska, Alpental, Baker, Crested Butte, Telluride, Taos - all have WAY steeper terrain. Only thing challenging is Breck’s shit, wind-blown snow.

It looks way steeper in person

Yeah every time i see a video of skiing it doesn't look that bad but in person its always worse lol
yeeep. popped up on a lip and had my knees go into my mouth. ate shit and chipped my teeth wahooo

Lived there before the lift was put in and that hike was a lot longer 😜. Thanks for the tour!

@@PeakRankingswhere is VC? I'm heading to Breck this weekend, and it doesn't seem to be on the trail map.
@@Custom_Stryfe_Main It's unmarked on the map, but it's located just looker's right of Zoot Chute
Thanks for the cool video. I remember Breck in the 90s before the lift to the top was added. IIRC, a poma lift dropped you off, leaving a long hike up the ridge.
Yes, the Imperial lift certainly cut a substantial portion off that hike!
You should do a Mammoth Summit tour. Do Huevos Grande, Head Chutes, Kiwi Flats, Paranoid Flats, Hangman’s Hollow etc…
Great suggestion! Next time we go back to Mammoth, we'll do our best to hit these.
@@PeakRankings Cool, they are open until at LEAST July 31 this year. Insane!
Great job Sam! The Lake Chutes look great!

Thanks for the video. I was having trouble sleeping and your video helped so much!
I love the lake chutes, my fav is Crazy Ivan 2

Ran Nine Lives for first time ever last month and 13k was no joke! Awesome video 🤟

Breck's high alpine terrain is some of the best inbound skiing in CO on a powder day. I've hit some incredible lines this season
Super helpful. Thanks

Poot Chute is gnarly dude!
Been to Breck and chickened out on the hike twice now. I need to go during peak instead of gaper day, abs need a clip dropping into savor.
Love your vids
I may not be good enough to ski the Lake Chutes, so maybe I can check out the lake in the summer.
I was eager to try out the Lake Chutes until I had to do the hike T T. I was so worn out afterwards that I had to sit down for twenty minutes. Decided to ski down Imperial instead.
Great video! Looks like your skiing blizzard Bonafide? What length do you prefer in those at your height and weight? Looking to buy a pair myself.
Thank you! These are 171s.
what time of the year was this
Just did wackies shoot and zoot chute best snow on the mountain
can you review A-Basin?
Video will be up before next season!
@@PeakRankings Sounds like y'all got a lot of stuff on the way . . . please actually go through with all of it.
Awesome video. Love it.
by golly Ive gotta visit!
When was this recorded??
Feb '22!
Great video!!
Thank you!
There are a lot of rocks up there.. I skied Imperial and Whales Tale today..
hey,, random question but did you stay at hostel tevere? i noticed one of your stickers by the front door and wwas like " no freaking way?!?!?"
Yep!
@@PeakRankings DUDE WE LIKELY STAYED AT THE SAME TIME! i was there every weekend in march and the 1st weekend in April
@@lumpybeats722 we were there mid-Feb, so probably missed ya!
When you look up after completing the last one was shocking.
Love your channel. Would be awesome if you could add trail map overlays (“you are here”) for reference.
Thanks for the suggestion! We'll see if we can incorporate this into future trail run videos.
Awesome!
Are these chutes marked at the top or do you have to memorize where each one is ?
You gotta memorize bud 🫡
I skiied that 3 days ago
When’s the whitefish video coming out
Conditions were nearly whiteout the whole time we were there, so not for awhile.
Saw so many people wheelchair skiing this year. Now I understand why

Chutes?? I would say these are more like bowls compared to some JH chute terrain
Gotta say, having left Breck for better snow pastures… that snow looks beat to crap chunder.
That looks real rocky. Weezie.

But by golly…. 🤓🥹😂
Definitely need ski partners.
That one dude cooked it. He was out of there.
Basically you go down chutes, and avoid rocks. Lol.
I’m 8 years old and I can do it
you're a pretty terrible skier, but a still love you videos.
