21:05 you can win after this move by playing Rh8 and freezing the king. Without a freeze of their own, black has no way of stopping the rook from jumping over the knight to take the king on the next turn.
9:00 Do knight to g5 as a knight sacrifice to deflect the queen and after queen takes then follow that up with knight to f7 and it’s a royal fork! And if they don’t take the knight then go do knight to f7 anyway and that’s a fork and queen can’t take or the g5 knight will take back, give check and fork the king and rook and the option for the king is to move and then you take the rook and you’re up a piece.
This is really cool. I wonder if it'd be better or worse if they added a couple new spell types and you could customise your loadout, having a certain amount of points to allocate on buying different spells
3:29 I play spell chess and he missed a win by moving there and then freezing the bishop queen and king there’s no way Nelson could stop his getting getting captured with a jump next move
Nelson sir I have a challenge Make a spin wheel 🛞 contain all low rated bots (Martin) to all higher rated GM bots (hikaru) and play against them First spin wheel play against the bot for 8 moves and change the bot for every 8 moves Please do this challenge 🙏🙏🙏
This is pretty neat, I enjoy variants on the classic game. It would be interesting if there was an element of chance added to the spells, like area of effect for the freeze based on a dice roll maybe.
Nice explanation -- thanks! So much easier to figure out what a new variant is by watching a video. Reading rules just doesn't make it come alive. I liked jump spell Rd8 around the time that he played Kf7, toward the end of the game. Can you jump for positional reasons or does it have to be a jump capture, I wonder.
You can jump and take the king, it is checkmate... I just did it! If such a move is possible, your opponent sgoyldnt prevent it(it is not illegal for your opponent to not block jump check)! You should find u can take the king using jump. I had my queen on h4, jumped g2 pawn and took the king. 😅
at the move 16 he could've just played Bd6+ that literally wins a rook, freezing the bishop will just result of e5 defending the bishop and the king Can't take the bishop because it's protected. and because if you take then u can freeze the king and the queen then play Qxg7 because the king and the queen will still be frozen so you play e5+ forking the king and the queen when they get unfrozen black is forced to sac the queen for 2 pawns because he is in check.
@@ggmoyangoh yeah I forgot about that one, also he is up 2 pieces and I have another line that wins the queen immediately, and that is Qxg7 and freezing the queen but not freezing the g file because Nelson queen is there, and since pieces can capture freezed pieces so he can take the queen the next turn and the game should be easy after that
It's really tough with black. I think c6 is the best first move preventing Bb5 + freeeze on c7. However after like e4 e5 Bb5 freeze c7 you can respond with Bb4 freeze on c2.
I don't agree with freez being the most powerful (haven't watched everything yet). Freeze doesn't do anything unless your opponent does it first (there are some exceptions). Most of my games with greater opponents go without freeze because no one wants to waste it (only noobs use it to win my queen, not realising I can freeze back the attacking piece). The jump spell is what's game changer, because it threatens to win by capturing King, even if he is protected. I had games when again, no one used jump spell but every move we threatened to use it, what changed game dramatically. I would really use jump spell (notice you have only 2, not 5) to win the most powerful piece on a board. It's pretty clever to save one so you can always threaten taking the King
@@isakoolsson Yeah, when he said freeze was more powerful and the jump was far less useful, he wasn't clocking how they worked, he was just using jumps to to take bishops early and crap. The problem with freeze is that freezes tend to be symmetrical-- use it to set something up and the opponent counter-freezes resulting in just normal chess in the end, just delayed a turn which can make for mildly interesting side-plays to set up double attacks or something. But jump turns every single pin into an immediate threat that *has* to be addressed. Jump is by far the more powerful spell here.
@@MrRabiddogg yeah, it's understandable though when normal chess is what he's used to. I think it's way easier to learn something new than to relearn something.
@@isakoolsson you're probably right. I know chess, but not to the level of Him or the other content creators. I don't study lines or anything like that so When I do the variants, I tend to do better I think because even with regular chess I have to think outside the box.
In the sprirt of video games, my mental map of chess already includes "buffs and debuffs." I mentally imagine Starcraft 2 style animations on the pieces. A pinned piece. An undefended piece. Etc. By formslly assigning a mental image to each status, I improved my abulity to intuit the board state. Personally, I think all of these special modes are uninteresting to the maximum degree. The beauty of chess is the emergent complexity from otherwise simple-ish rules.
I'm loving this variant. This is not too different from normal chess unlike other variants, but still different enough too make things fresh.
yeah if you survive the shenanigans youre just playing chess
Where can i play this ???
There are so many forks and pins that weren't possible in regular chess lol. I'm actually better at this gamemode than regular chess (1800 vs 1600)
A very cool missed tactic at 8:12 was e5, because it put the king in check and attacked the queen, what an interesting game mode
Exactly what I was thinking and it's crazy he missed it
I just wanted to write that.Agree, very tactical game mode
But he Freeze the Knight and the pawn
@@skreeblood2787 he can't freeze
15:20 Just so amazing to see a good player make such a beautiful blunder.
This collab with supercell has to be the best one ever made
Hi Nelson. This was fun to watch. I wouldn't mind if you recorded a couple more episodes of spell chess! Thanks for the video!
21:05 you can win after this move by playing Rh8 and freezing the king. Without a freeze of their own, black has no way of stopping the rook from jumping over the knight to take the king on the next turn.
8:22
You could have attacked the queen and then your knight unfreezes with check, winning the queen because he already used his freeze
I thought the pieces were gonna slice each other up like in the Philosophers stone lol
I was spectating these games live! It's fun seeing how even masters take time to figure out the dynamics of these obscure variants :)
Its a collab with clash of clans
I’m glad you came back and won the second game. I hate arrogant people
Always fun to checkmate someone after they’ve told you to resign. You put them back in their box.
Oh man. Is this the Chess 2 we have been waiting for? Or just a patch / DLC for the original chess?
Clash of Chess
8:11 doesn't e5 just win the queen? black has to deal with the check on the king first. You probably lose a rook after but that's not as bad
you lose your rook but after taking the queen, you can capture in g5 to attack their rook with your pawn.
Cool game mode! You could've played e5 at 8:12 to win the queen
9:00 Do knight to g5 as a knight sacrifice to deflect the queen and after queen takes then follow that up with knight to f7 and it’s a royal fork! At 19:50 you still had the pin on the queen with jump
8:25 move e5 would be devastating

No, only because Nelson's freeze spell had already finished cooldown.

i love your channel very much Nelsi , keep going , please make more videos with Martin .
12:27 freeze c8 then Qf8#
8:09, You could have played e5, so that when its Black's move, black is in check, the king has to move and you can capture the queen with pawn on e5.
Exactly but he missed it I was about to scream at him 😂

Yeah, I think so.
you can change the board via settings
Around 9:28 I was thinking you could jump your own pawn with the queen to d6...would've been interesting.
i think then probably queen takes queen with jump over the e6 pawn. would be a trade tho
@@KaptnJolly That's true, opponent had jumps ready to go...man, this is wild.

I think black can defend with jump@e6 and Qxd6. But then white can take kingside pawns so it would be not bad for Nelson.

that rook jump to the queen though
Being down a queen for a rook in a normal game is dead lost but not that bad in spell chess (since it's easy to mess up for the opponent)
yeah just having one extra jump spell is enough pressure, even when down a rook
