I've been playing drawback chess for a while now, so I'll give some advice.
For drawbacks that are particularly hard, you need to play differently. Even if your drawback allows you to play a certain opening, you'll see soon enough that the hard drawback can seriously hurt you later. It's your job to look ahead and avoid these situations as much as possible.
Also, in the intro where you sacced your bishop for development. That's not a good play because your opponent doesn't know your drawback. In the best case scenario, your opponent might decide to trade your bishop for another minor piece and you got 100% of your bishop value rather than just a little development.
Also, drawbacks have hoverable words where you can get clarifications on the rules. The hoverable words are usually conventions by the website themselves so once you know what they mean, you don't have to hover over them every time.
Additionally, the "reveal drawback to opponent" can be used at around 18:07, where you're basically winning, but you want to show your opponent that you have no drawback and can win from that position. So that your opponent won't waste time trying to find your drawback when you don't have any.
Yeah the sac was unnecessary since we can bait the opponent by using it like the second bishop.
But I don't think the opponent will understand his drawback in that situation. It can be something like, a piece can't move away from the king too, or just a simple blunder. Since we cannot see opponent's real rating, we won't know if the opponent did a blunder or not. Also, IDK how much drawback there is in the game but I think it's going to be almost impossible to guess your opponent's
Here's some advice: do better. Kthnxbai.
.
This form of chess has some major drawbacks 😹
What are you talking about? It's a goated chess variant!
You missed the joke @danielyuan9862
@@danielyuan9862 It's called drawback chess...
@@danielyuan9862whoosh
@@danielyuan9862 r/goneoveryourhead
I feel like a better strategy for that last game was to pretend your bishops were good, and then gotten them to take them with knights, and you basically win 2 free knights and you are freed of the drawback.
But then they would have the bishop pair.
@@megauser8512 They have their own drawbacks anyway, and at least you've got rid of your own almost-useless bishop pair
Loving these weird chess games
Chess battle advanced
Another episode of this please!
I assume the rule for capturing the King en passant is in place because you can castle anyway if you believe the enemy's drawback prevents them from capturing. And then you find out.
EN PASSANT the KING!!
Very awesome ! 🎉 Please do this again as soon as possible in the the near future! It was such much fun to discover that weird new style of chess. 😅
Especially, when you have a kind of an idea of the drawbacks and starting to guess which your opoenent is having, I'd expect even more fun. 😊
Looking forward to see you do this again.
Stay sharp, play smart, take care!
This is my favorite variant. Likely thanks to the Chess Simp channel. I'll be happy to see more of these from you as well.
One thing i've learnt from these series is how much.... for want of a better term... "pattern recognition" a NM has in regular chess. It's bizarre to watch Nelson struggle with these chess variants, and how he went into autopilot once his "drawback" expired and he reverted back to regular chess. I'd like to see more of this.
I don't think his pattern recognition is that fascinating. It's like riding a bike and drinking from a water bottle. Get rid of the bottle and it's just riding a bike.
thats what everyone means when they say that high rated chess players dont need to have super human intelligence.
Just a quick note: Distance on drawback chess is always measured in manhattan distance (number of moves it would take if you could only move 1 square up/down, left/right at a time) so a knight move would be 3 squares away and a diagonal pawn capture would be 2 squares
Gross.
Please play more of these Nelson!
At 25:20 your time jumps from 0:11 to 0:04, that's why you lost on time. Probably because of some server lag or something. That's bad luck, so sad. :(
I think that was edited out to keep the video short, same thing happens to opponent at 4:20. It doesn't warn you when you are low on time so he just missed it I think
@@enderyu Oh I'm stupid, there clearly is a cut I have missed.
There is an acoustic warning when there's 3 seconds left but that's obviously very tight.
The preview looks like someone added ideology update to chess. 💀
The first drawback seems pretty hard cuz its not just retreating its if u move farther away
I was one of the (probably many) viewers who suggested drawback chess. Thank you for trying it out!
I love his new style of videos playing different games of chess but still playing what his channel was made for thx for teaching me so much keep up the vids :)
Please make another video of this type of chess, i love your videos.
"Drawback chess? Finally, I'll be able to beat Nelson."
~Martin, probably
Great video, please keep this kind of video coming!
IM Rosen lost on one of his earliest games of Drawback where the opponent won if they X-rayed your king at any moment. It was like move 3 and his opponent moved a rook or queen to the E file - Game over instantly.
That one was removed becuase it was too stupidly hard.
If you do this again in the future, try selecting "give me harder drawbacks" in the settings, I think it will be much more fun
Thats very funny to watch. More of those please
7:20 whats even more tilting is that if you took his queen the opponent would need to move the bishop back and would loose
But Nelson didn't know that, so he thought that it would just be a queen trade.
@@megauser8512 sure he didnt know that but it was the only move to take the queen he was just overwhelmed with the drawback
26:04 he is like, bro got the easiest drawback ever
Incredible showcase of the botez gambit in the first game truly a moment in time 🗣️
Chess Vibes always look forward to your videos because there all way cool. Like this one.
You could've won outright at 23:51 with Nxh7. If he takes you check with Rh3 then you finish with Qg6. If he declines the sacrifice you add a Knight check on g6 then follow with the rook move.
What i learned from that: Always stay sharp and play smart.... even if you are losing :)
It's seems that Nelson does not know how to play Scandinavian opening. The third move was a mistake.
of all the non-traditional chess variants. which one is your favorite?
This is extremely good content. There's something satisfying about watching well respected masters struggle with styles of play they can't control.
Hmm Bishops can't capture. I'd use it to destroy their pawn structure and then just let it go
Hello Nelson! Where is a good place where I can contact you concerning business inquiries?
It would be fun to see you play mini chess on a 5x5 board
Hey Nelson I've left a couple of comments asking for a video on how to calculate in chess, but I haven't heard back from you yet. Could you please let me know if you can provide that?
Game 3 move 13 you needed to go pawn e7 capturing the knight.
It threatened the queen and rook, but you still have the threat on the bishop. Would have won a piece instead of just trading.
I like this one do more of this game 😂
Please bring back rating climb against bots. Not sure if you have finished them yet?
happy green dolphin
This game must have been inspiration from Chess Vibe💀
7:54 does this consider castle through check? if yes could have captured the king i guess
Which square did the king move through that was in check? I don't see it.
I have played this for a while, it is fun
Petition to change channel name to Happy Green Dolphin
How would stockfish for this go?
Drawback chess LoL
14:51 like martin
With the Leveling Up restriction, how would you defend scholors mate?
no
You don't.
But as the other reply said, no. Don't be toxic, since that only works for specific drawbacks and you don't know if your opponent has one of them.
@@danielyuan9862 How is it toxic to play a gambit?

This video is not getting much views because of the title and thumbnail. I suggest you make it a little better, and tell what this video is about. I was thinking it's just a random video until I saw that it's from chess vibes. So, I would like to suggest adding a little more detail in the thumbnail and title to catch more attention. :)
That looks funny and infuriating at the same time. I think I have to skip this one.
