My Experience with Burger King's Fiery Nuggets
Burger King's Fiery Nuggets can be purchased for $2.49, netting you an 8pc combo. Upon inspection, these nuggets are dark -- which is a sign these gonna be greasy as hell, and contained grease visible on the walls of the bag. As I picked up the first nugget, I noticed a massive grease stain underneath that soaked the napkin. For that amount of grease coming out of 1 nugget, I can't imagine letting 8 of these dance around in my digestive track. Ain't no way they're leaving system without a grand finale.
As I take my first bite, I immediately animation cancel. There was no crunch, the nugget began to bend before I even punctured through the breading. Loose seasoning hit my tongue and began assaulting my taste buds. I knew consuming just 1 nugget would destroy me from the inside, so I decided to not continue with the review process -- as this is a visible health concern. Unless you have some super gut that can digest steel, ain't no way you're going to enjoy this.
This is not a good look for Burger King. In the past, Burger King had an experimental phase that included items such as the Chicken Parmesan Sandwich, and notably on topic: Buffalo Chicken Strips -- which were just standard breaded chicken strips with Buffalo sauce drench (I actually tried these back in 2013 and they gave me bubbly gut).
Wendy's currently holds the crown for best fast food spicy chicken nuggets. What makes them stand out from the rest is how they strike a perfect balance in what makes a spicy nugget pleasing to the consumer. The Wendy's Spicy Nugget is not only crispy and juicy from their proper frying technique, it also has the spicy seasoning baked into the breading. When you bite into their nuggets, you are immediately greeted by multiple sensations. The crispy exterior is audible even with background noise, grease was properly drained, seasoning being baked into the breading means the flavor is traveling with the whole experience, and the white meat chicken is juicy.
The issue with Burger King's Fiery Nuggets is they are not fried properly and how the spiciness is applied with a weak seasoning that sticks to your tongue and prickles off the body of the nugget, it makes you feel like someone in the back of Burger King Food Lab accidentally some pepper on it during lunch time and thought they made a groundbreaking discovery. Seasoning should not leave the meal you are consuming. The meal is a whole system, and when one of those systems fail, everything comes crashing down.
Spicy Nuggets should not require sauce, so you need to have that flavorful, dry breading to be complimented by a juicy inside. Perfecting the ratios creates an experience that is only unique to those restaurants that can capture this, and to do so is as simple as pulling some love in your craft. With the reputation of greasy American food, Wendy's upholds an ongoing triumph that will leave your competitors knowing that when consumers try inferior spicy nuggets, they will say, "Man, I should've just gone to Wendy's."
