    You touched on the reason I think of when you said "have the right why". If you don't enjoy it you're not going to make it. Too many people think it's a get rich quick kind of job but it's not at all.

    Grrrreat video, Kevin. Super advice. The title threw me, but it’s actionable advice.

    I think you hit the nail on the head with “people want things like yesterday” and that is ultimately the reason a lot of people will be discouraged when trying to become an SE. But a lot of the expectation nowadays IMO for wanting things like yesterday does come from the many promises you see on RUclips and websites of people with testimonials… like most things in life that are worth it or have prestige, you gotta go the longer way to really get to that success;

      100%. patience is key in this industry. people want to build a complicated new IOS application but can't even build a simple table. start with the basics and build your way up

    I didn't think my 1000's of hours spent designing phallic shaped rockets in kerbel space program would help me in my career, but it landed me a job at blue origin!

    First of all that's not true, because demand on software engineers grows faster than supply. How do I know it? Because look at average quality of any field of any software product. Be it google only product or a random website. Quality lowers each year even despite the fact that tools are more convenient than before and information is more accessible.

    Just because you're a software engineer, does not make you look smart to people. In fact to some, being a software engineer makes you look dumb.

    AI will replace you in 4-5 years so people starting their Comp Sci undergrad now will be useless in 5 years.
