When are you announcing the giveaway winner of macbook pro
Solid Advice. I've had the issue you mention on not having projects big enough. I worked with my manager to go on borrow to other teams to gather some of that experience as well as figure out how can we pitch ideas to leadership on increasing our projects area of responsibility.
Congratulation Kevin, you are killing it. Happy to see you progressing 🥳
thanks so much Anshu! :)
hell yeah nice work! these are actually some good tips, a lot of things are just a slight change in mindset! congrats
thanks Matt! Really appreciate it dude :)
Hey Kevin. Glad to see you posting again. Been watching your content since before either of us were working in FAANG. Awesome to see another mid level tech -> FAANG story like mine.
PS: The lamb in 770 slapped yesterday. Is the Google food better you think?
Great video, Kevin!! Congrats on the promo 🎉🎉
thanks so much Pooja!! :)
This is an awesome video. Great advice, thank you
thank YOU for supporting my content! :)
awesome vid.. as always! Nice animations too.
thanks Paco!! :)
Great tips!
TLDR: There isn't really much good or unique advice here. The only thing really new and important advice given is just talking with your manager and asking what can I do to get promoted. Pretty simple and brain dead advice which is sometimes overlooked by many ppl. You can thank me for saving your time.
In a kinder way, I agree with this. I think some people have an easier path to promotion with a supportive team than others. Advice around how to advocate for yourself in an unsupportive environment would have been good to include!
Great video! I’m a CS Major currently. This is a unrelated question… However, I’m interested to know what Google has to say about ChatGpt? Will they allow their engineers to utilize it in day to day operations? Will they cut their workforce even more due to this tool?
Congratulation Kevin
Congratulations 🥳🥳🥳🥳
thank you!! :)
Great vid!
thanks Jason!! :)
Hi kevin. What happened to your leetcode Easy and Leetcode Medium playlists? I used to love working through them in order. I don't see them anymore. Have you made it for pay only now? I'm willing to pay. I need to prep for interviews now. Please let me know how I can access them again? Thanks.
You have any tips for all of the people that just got fired?
Hey Kevin, I just watched your video and I must say that it was really informative and well-made. I was wondering if I could help you edit your videos and also make highly engaging shorts for you.
Spot on!
Congrats and Great video! Two questions: 1. What if we are building good relationship with team but find that the manager and skip manager have quit their job around the time you were planning to get promoted..and suddenly find yourself with new team organization? 2. When would be the ideal right time to talk about promotion in a new job scenario? I feel weird to talk about promotion when I barely know things / solve problems effectively. P.S just curious what's your average total working hours look like
That's a lot to answer but would appreciate if you do. :)
As someone at Google who JUST moved to a new team last month, I would say immediately! Managers and even team members love to know you have a goal in mind, and they want to help you. It’s fine if you currently don’t know a lot. You’re saying “I want to get promoted, how can I get to that level?” Not “promote me right now! Cause I know what I’m doing!”
@@crazychase443 haha that last line makes so much sense. Thank you!

Nice job with this video, very helpful. One thing to note is what happens AFTER the promotion. You'll have to learn a lot in order to keep the stakeholders satisfied about what you're doing. WDYT?
Thanks Cesar! I think it depends on each company's policy of how they do promotions. A lot of companies I've worked at have only promoted someone is they're already doing next-level work. Meaning that if you get promoted you theoretically just need to keep performing at the same level you have been
Congratulations on your promotion 😊
thank you Arthur!
Man I feel incredibly scared. I love building and creating stuff but mostly it's just me alone. Trying to work within a team and meeting someone's expectations is pretty scary. How'd you do it?
I used to feel the same way. It's super important to check in with your manager and understand what your expectations are. Once you have those nailed down, communicate early and often about them so that if your performance does slip for any reason you can address it right away. I hope this helps; remember, you're not alone with how you feel. I figured it out and so will you!!
are you currently interviewing with other companies?

Did / do you have to navigate work politics at google? Would they evaluate you strictly on performance? Currently facing issues at my job where I have a high output of good work, but my manager does not like me.
personally, i'm not affected by any "politics" at work. My best advice to you would be to come up with things you need to do to get promoted with your manager and have it in writing. Obviously they can't guarantee it'll happen, but having things you need to do to get promoted in writing and then accomplishing them will make it very hard for them to say no. Worst case scenario you can try switching teams, but I recommend trying the first piece of advice before that. Good luck!
Thanks for the great advice.
@@ThatBigGuyAl of course! thank YOU for supporting my content!
Have 2.5 years experience in PHP. Currently learning golang, how to get noticed or “impress” google recruiters to get a shot?
I think trying to get referrals always works best
Learn a lesson about *employee engagement* what is just a method of manipulation in that sort of companies. We could see how Google understands loyalty and engagement. They hire many employees and brainwash them about so-called “values” and “team spirit” to finally get rid of them.
With everything happening recently I thought this was gonna be about getting promoted to "unemployed"
yeah the layoffs are sad and I'm trying to do the things in my power to help my teammates who have been affected. I've been promoted to customer before in my career, but hopefully I'll never be promoted in that way again
How to become better at problem solving or coming up with logics ?
It's all about practice! I recommend attempting and solving a certain number of problems each day when you're actively studying
Congratulations Kevin! L5 to L6?
L3 -> L4
Soo what you make now 100 k a year?
Hey hi...big fan from India...I've 5years of fullstack development...I've one doubt...can I apply job in Google usa directly from india ?
it can never hurt to apply! I say go for it!

There were no promotions end of the year for 2022. It is impossible you were promoted in January 2023.
How about politics, lobbying and favoritism ?!?
How much hike you got after promotion 🤔
around 20%-25%

As a Googler, I would say that this video contains apparently incorrect information. You can't be promoted at Google in December or January (and it is what you said in the video).. 🧐 The question is why did you lie to your subscribers?... And what is also missing in the video - from what level to what level you have been promoted (if it has really happened that I strongly doubt), cause being promoted from L3 to L4 is not a big deal.... The other story is to be promoted from L4 to L5 within a year..
Proof you are a Googler
@@alienwareCL Proof Kevin was promoted
@@caititutu I think you might be right but there is really no need to prove anything. It is a great content and we simply need appreciate it. These are solid advices and why would it be nullified because the assumptions you make?
@@sean721888 I absolutely agree that advices are solid, just why do you need to beautify the reality and lie? Can't you just make video with great advices without pretending? Here is there I totally disagree and disgrace, especially when you are Googler and should be a roling model to look up to... And the second thing that I've mentioned - be promoted from L3 to L4 is not a big deal. Both my mentees are going to make it happen soon (as I said the promo cycle has not yet happened), also within the year of joining Google. If you are not lazy and do all assigments within dealines, it is a regular thing.
i recorded this video in the fall when i was promoted to L4 but the video wasn't ready to upload until recently. to me, i feel proud of my promotion :)
I sent you a dm on Twitter.
