Thanks maintenance has been ok. I haven’t bothered to use detergent as often as recommended. The results tell you if it needs more cleaning or not… also, I usually do back flushing after every time I am done with the machine with only water… it keeps it clean. I do detergent every month or every other month. As for water tank, I use water softener there… instead of descaling the machine.
Grinder almost has 0 retention. Tried yesterday. 18 fr in and 17.9 out… but even there… it can be my scale that didn’t register the last 0,1 gr 😅. I haven’t even cleaned the grinder during over 2 years of ownership… I feel bad. Will do it soon.
Although… the grinder is a bit “picky depending on the quantity of the beans” . I feel that it clumps a bit when they are oilier beans. That can be due to lack of maintenance of course.
I'm only a beginner in the hobby but I would say that that's perfect and what you ended up with was really beautiful.

I'm glad if my previous message motivated you at least 1% to post this video.
I have a couple of questions and one suggestion:
1. How do you assess the change in taste now with the decrease in pressure?
2. Do you fill the hopper or do you do single dosing? If you do single dosing, don't you have inconsistency between shots due to retention? I was thinking about getting the Niche Zero, but only because I'm afraid of inconsistency between shots when using single dosing on grinders not built for it.
3. Small suggestion: use a dosing ring, maybe it will make your morning better :)
Good questions.
First off , I never do single shot. Mainly because I wouldn’t be satisfied with only one shot but also because of the shape of the single shot basket. If I’d have a ridge less basket I’d try it out. The Niche is extremely popular. You can’t go wrong with it although I think other manufacturers have caught up now so you have a few to choose from. I have next to
0 retention in mine BUT it tends clump if it don’t like the beans that much. Although I haven’t cleaned it since I bought it and I can only blame myself here. Same goes for the Mara x. I have cleaned it but not that often with detergent plus back flushing… I never let it stand though without use for a long period of time and am doing just hot water flushing.
With the grinder… there is a video with the Same grinder where the guy cleaned the machine and also adjusts the alignment of the burr … that solved the puzzle apparently but I think I haven’t taken time to learn what suits best with this grinder.
I get some inconsistency depending on how I prepare my puck and if I use wdt or not and if I use the extra shower protection or not. The extra puck screen really “camouflages my flaws since it distributes the water evenly over the coffee and gives a nice extraction even though I’ve been sloppy 😂.
The adjustment of bar pressure is nice since you can then adjust the grind size to coarser which is easier for the grinder. Flavor wise I maybe can tell a bit more body to the coffee but not extremely big of a different. Although I’ll adjust the pressure soon again down to 8(it is 8,5 now).
