Just a short story from the late 90s Teutonic Thrash scene. Destruction were basically nonexistent, Kreator did ok but not much more, Sodom drew around150 people when they played and Tankard gigs sometimes had maybe 50 to 100. In 1999, before Destruction came back and before Kreator got back to Thrash Sodom and Tankard decided to do a small tour together called "F**k The Millenium". All of a sudden the places were packed, I saw that tour in a packed place with around 700 maniacs going wild. In 2001 Sodom, Kreator and Destruction decided to do the "Hell Comes To Your Town" tour and that was the real turning point. From there on all of the four bands did very well on their own. Not to talk about the German festival culture, that is a different story... My final battle would be "M-16" versus "Hordes Of Chaos". Today I´d say Sodom but that might change already tomorrow, hahaha...
The only problem with your short story is … it’s too short lol. You are a true metal encyclopedia, in fact I wish you’d write a book with all your stories, now that would be some good reading! I’m looking forward to our Kreator stream, let’s talk to the boss and pick a date 🤘 Cheers brother
Hi Darcy!!! you have a pretty cool Sodom and Kreator collection and nice to hear eventhough you arrived kind of late to this party it was worth the listening experience and knowing this era of both bands and not get stuck in the classic 80's material. As i have said before i'm very late to the four german thrash bands so i'm really enjoying this type of video and learn more about their catalogue and modern releases..... cheers and be well
I’ve been listening Tankard for most of the day, they are waaaaaaaay better than people give them credit for! Their newer stuff is great, especially the 2 to 3 albums. Always good to hear from you 🤘 Cheers Thomas
Really enjoyed this episode of six with six strings I have most of kreator's catalogue from 2001 onwards barring the most recent it's the other end of the catalogue I'm missing lots only have coma of souls and a couple of compilations need to rectify that! as for Sodom their stuff is so hard to get hold of here in the UK all I have is a 2cd best of and a 2cd live album their catalogue definitely needs a full reissue asap thanks as always darcy you rule!
Yes most of the Sodom material is very hard to get! I think a few of their older albums have been bought up by BMG, so hopefully we see some reissues soon. If I see anything I’ll mention it in a video. Thanks as always 🤘 You rule too :))
Nice one Darcy! I have only 1 modern album from each, and they're pretty good. I have Decision day by Sodom and Gods of violence by Kreator. Definitely need to check out more of their later stuff for both bands, I've been picking up some early Kreator recently. I need to check out some early Sodom as well though. Nice comparisons 🤘🏻🤘🏻
My personal big 4 of thrash is Slayer, Sodom, Kreator, and Metallica. Anyway this is a tough choice since i love both bands. I think ill go with Sodom. They’re alittle more up my alley since im a big death metal guy but even then they only win by a slim margin. M-16 is my favourite Sodom album so that would win in the end. Nothing against enemy of god, its a great album but i just love m-16 too much. Oh and it makes me happy that you love it too! 😌 This is getting kinda long so awesome video and stay heavy heavy!
You really can’t go wrong with any of the 12 albums. I’m just happy the German Big 4 is still putting out new music. Thanks as always 🤘 Have a great week :))
Good to hear your thoughts once again Darcy. Yeah I'd agree and say overall Kreator has the stronger albums, particularly the first two but yeah m-16 and genesis can give them a run for their money.
I'm not really a thrash guy but Sodom & Kreator are by far my favorite of the genre. My picks: M16 > Violent Revolution Enemy of God > Sodom In War and Pieces > Hordes of Chaos Phantom Antichrist > Epitome of Torture Gods of Violence > Decision Day Genesis 9 > Hate Über Alles
Believe it or not I have Sodom M16 and Genesis 19 and nothing in-between! But do finally have all the Kreator albums! Definitely will check out some of those Sodom ones! Awesome stuff Darcy!
I believe you! I think it boils down to availability, many of the Sodom albums are out of print. I’m still missing 6 studio albums & I refuse to buy those bullshit Russian knockoffs. Thanks G 🤘
Nice collection you have there. You have dived into an era of Sodom i don't even know about. I really only know the stuff uo to 1990. I have M-16 which i know a little bit. I blame Steamhammer and the lack of long term availability in the UK. I might have grown more attached otherwise. I liked the newest album but I can't listen to it. The production goes through me so i sold it. That very early first wave black metal style from them is definitely my favourite. By 1987 if im totally honest I can take em or leave em. Kreator are enjoying the same level of popularity as they did in the late 80s these days. I think Millie done well not to throw the towel in. 1993 Newcastle Riverside. 29 people. Imagine how that felt going on stage. That's probably been the same story everywhere at the time. You need to get bidding on that Tapping the Vein 😂
Great stuff Darcy! These battles you do are a lot of fun! Would you ever consider having a battle of the first 5 Testament albums versus the first 5 Overkill albums? I know that would be torture for you since they are your 2 favorite thrash bands but I would love to see you sweat that out 😂. Take care buddy 🤘🏻
Most of the big thrash bands from the 80's have made an amazing comeback as far as quality is concerned since 2000's onwards! Kreator is my favorite since then! Cheers Darcy! You should copyright the term Thrashterpiece!! 😂
Glad to see this notifs while on break! Sodom is definitely my favorite out of the German Tutonic Thrash bands, Agent Orange and M-16 alone are good enough for that! Killer work, excited to see this

I love both bands, but I think there’s a level of grit and viciousness that Kreator lost when they leaned more into the melodic stuff. Sodom never really lost that. Of course, Sodom has some melodic elements as well, but it just seems a little more raw and dangerous where as Kreator goes for the more melodic anthemic stuff. I think Kreator wins in this battle but I actually enjoy Sodom more. I don't like the production on modern Kreator albums. It's to polished & the music is to melodic, but I think they are the more consistent band of the two.
