Loved them from the late eighties to early nineties. Mascis was a rock monster. He had that slacker turned country star thing nailed.... Good guitarist.. a noise master with that Jazzmaster... He was just as cool as I remember him back them!
i started teaching myself guitar in december 2018; just the simple stuff: power chords, open chords, a lot of green day, weezer, and the beatles. november 9 2019 my mom and uncle took me to see dinosaur jr at white oak. before seeing them i had only seen this video of severed lips when my uncle had shown it to me a week earlier. it was a crazy cool experience to see them live, but i wish i would’ve appreciated it more. now, just over a year later, i’m coming full circle and learning their songs on the guitar. the goal is to learn severed lips, but i’ve got some improving to do first. hopefully someday i’ll be able to see them live again and take it all in. until then i’ve got my guitar and some tabs and that’s good enough.
@@chrisreaney1980 unfortunately i had to undergo major orthopedic surgery four days before the show :( i had the tickets for over two years and had been looking forward to the show for AGES, but couldn’t go. a friend of mine took my ticket instead. my playing has been going really well recently though! i’ve progressed pretty far on guitar and could probably get this song down in a week or so if i sat down and really focused on it. there’s one video on my channel that shows some of my (mediocre) bass playing when one of my favorite bands invited me to play on stage with them. it’s far from a good representation of my playing but it’s something!
I always loved this lineup - Murph hits hard and Mike J had such a cool 1950’s film noir gangster look - he really complemented J Mascis visually and sonically. I saw them live in Montreal in the 90’s- Swervedriver opened / can’t remember the year - but they were explosive; a bit messy; J blew his amp during a solo, walked over mid-stream of a solo, yanked the cable out of the amp, jammed it in another amp and kept going. J has been such an influence on my guitar playing. I didn’t even realize it until recently. I still practice to his solos on ‘Get Me’ thirty years later. To me that song and those solos are some of the most uplifting and soaring sounds I’ve ever heard - a symphony on a Telecaster. Rock on J.
It was a great night- but Swervedriver really impressed me when they opened up for Smashing Pumpkins in 93- they blew them off the stage in my opinion. Killer set - - bought Mezcal Head a few days later.
Llevo desde los 90 viendo este video (lo tenía en VHS) y siempre me pareció increíble como en el minuto 3:00 empieza punteo y en el 3:38 es capaz de parar ese caballo desbocado de esa forma. Puto máquina el J.Mascis.
Severed lips is played like a half step slower than the album. I usually extremely hate it when a band plays a song slightly faster or slower than the version I’m used to, but that wasn’t nagging like it usually does
I have done a lot of bad things in my life. Like awful fights. I dealt drugs. I turned my life around enough to join the military. Only to enter war and do other things that scare how I will be judged. Came home with PTSD and started drinking. Then one day I realized that I am going to go to hell when I die. And I think that will take the form of forever being locked into an auditorium during a Dinosaur Jr concert that never ends.
This might be the best versions of these songs that exist
100% agree. there is also recording from this same session of them playing thumb, get me, and budge which are also fantastic
There’s an amazing version of Severed Lips on a bootleg from Frankfurt.
@@leoantonio where can i find this
That guitar sound for the Severed Lips riffs is something else
That's the one it was recorded on!!

Dang, no love for the past 32 years of the band lol
Raisins always blows me away.
J Mascis is one of my heroes. The last solo is incredible
More like epic

Never heard before thanks Jesus for them beautiful songs.
Raisans is a killer beast song

Seeing Swervedriver AND Dinosaur on the same show, that's awesome.
It was a great night- but Swervedriver really impressed me when they opened up for Smashing Pumpkins in 93- they blew them off the stage in my opinion. Killer set - - bought Mezcal Head a few days later.
Thanks for sharing. I recorded this on WHS back in the days but the tape got lost. So great to see this again.
That last guitar solo was so awesome!
I got the entire show 120minutes on VHS (stored as gold). I still remember that day
Im as blown away now as i was when this aired. unreal.
Nobody but J Mascis can show how a guitar must sound like!
J. Mascis is still a master of rock...making guitarists and singe/ songwriter with Dino Jr. or solo. Still going strong in 2019...keep it up, please!
I love this band and this song. The Blake Babies covered this song on their 1991 ep Rosy Jack World
Juliana also did a good cover of Raisans on her "Forever Baby" EP when she went solo. She also named an album "Only Everything"
The production quality's better than most other 120 Minutes performances from back then. Not surprised tho, it's Dinosaur Jr.
i love how dinosaur is depressive and explosive at same time... j mascis is fucking genius... i still love they since 2000
I have to agree that that is a key element of what makes them so good
Wish I was alive back to see these guys in the late 80s and 90s
severed lips. that solo. the song that made me fall in love with Jr.
Thanks for sharing. I got this recorded on my VHS and watched it like a million times.
Nice........🎤🎸🎸🥁🔥💪👊
J Mascis is GOD
awesome
'94 dinosaur jr is something not to be fucked with. POWERFUL solos by j mascis.
Goosebumps
I love the Cousin It look he had back then.
I just want to say that Mike Johnson did a fookin mega job on bass! Year of Mondays is a cool record. Mark Lanagan 🎤 drop
could you imagine trying to fit two guitars into this band ?
Love this version of severed lips, so relaxed but then J melts your face off
J Mascis is badass pure and simple
i can't believe the severed lips solo oof

What a great show...thank you for posting this!
love this set so much🔥
Dinosaur muito bom.
4:55 Raisans
Was, Is And Will be Epic! imagine a 19 years old guy listening to this at home in 94 for the very first time
What a solo! it's been more than 20 years since then but I still recognize it and I still can anticipate it (It was played tooooooo many times)
@@SeaAndOutdoorsLover I was 16 \m/
why would you wanna skip to raisans the whole thing is great
I think I say that no matter which DJr song I'm listening to.

Agreed. But Mike Johnson was great too.

What a fuck up
Get back to them drugs
banda culia sin ganas, todas las canciones parecen hechas a la fuerza
you could use phrases such as "dumpster fire" or "burning train-wreck" to describe what this band does and mean it in an entirely positive way
