this session was early 1993, before MTV Europe moved into its new big studios (now also demolished, along with the building where this was recorded). I was doing studio-tech on this- changed the battery in j's mxr bluebox, got rid of the buzz from his marshall & did the monitor mix. on the floor, his pedals were glued to a large piece of perspex, which had its own purple flight case. in lieu of guitar stands, he used bean-bags, as you may just be able to make out. it was extremely loud.
I saw J solo about 5 times. He would drive himself to his shows in his tiny Subaru!Pop trunk & pull out Martin and pedals. Casbah, Troubadour, etc. Dinosaur Jr. Many, many more.
This is really fucking good. I would agree that these versions are better than the album versions. I would also agree that they are much better than nirvana and just about every other band of the era. You have done a great service to music lovers everywhere by posting this and for that I say THANK YOU.
I wish Dinosaur were still mixed this way. At some point J's guitar became more noise then tone and they have somehow forgotten to put Murph in the mix these days.
Same here! Had Get Me on an old VHS, never heard Budge. Me and my brother, such as countless other guys of the era I guess, always had a cassete in the videorecorder ready to catch a video. They were the playlists of the time. Sounds like another geological era...
Where are the lyrics in Budge? I thought the verses he mumbles something. Like; " You're hitting my last nerve. I don't know what to touch. Why won't you just Budge? " I may be wrong; it's been awhile. Getti.g back into Dino, recently. On another note; people should check out the Peel sessions from '88 and Pukkelpop '91. They are stunningly good; great setlists and the quality of the recordings are beautiful.
Illuminati Brain Control no its a jazzmaster, take a close look at the pickguard or the pickups. But i can see were you coming from, the light makes it look like the upper part of the guitar is chrome

Nice!
London?
@@FaxanaduJohn yes. I was in that very room when this was recorded. early 1993.
They're doing pre-orders for a UK 12" EP on wax now. Should be released in a couple of months. 5 tunes. Thumb, Get Me, Raisans, Budge, etc.

Dinosaur Jr. Many, many more.
Mascis spent his entire life’s allotment of energy on this single performance of budge?
Yup no more energy available. Co firmed from mascis himself.
Budge is a killer tune
Murph up there with the best of the best drummers. This is a really sweet representation
I agree. Murph is a beast
Get Me is possibly one of my favorite dinosaur jr songs. Such an awesome song
Gotta love that back to back neil young country stomp

Man my youth - where did it go - you don’t realize what you had till it’s gone… life is so fleeting….
Hey man, just be grateful for the memories and that you still get to listen to it.
That is the most i have ever seen J move while playing guitar, and Murph is such an underrated drummer.
never seen j so energetic lol
Comes with the territory of being in your 20s lol
That snare drum tone is sexy
Peak era snare tone for them. Murph hadn't given up yet his first time around
I wonder if that's a Ludwig. Wonderful pop
I am so glad I got all this on Vinyl but its so knackered now I have to listen on net
The telecaster had a much cleaner brighter tone than the jazz master. Perfect for "get me"
The dinosaur is anything but clean my friend.
Without a doubt that's why there one of the most underrated bands in the universe.
the tele def sounds like the album, which makes since since he records primarily with a telecaster and not a jazzmaster
I like this version of Budge
The greatest
duncanrmi - Wowwwwwwwww! Just bought myself a BLAST FIRST t that came today! And just learnt the chords today for Budge too. Big Heart!
I noticed that too... But if he doesn't want to end solos, then best not to stop him! They're too good haha
"Get me" Such a beautiful song.
I wish Dinosaur were still mixed this way. At some point J's guitar became more noise then tone and they have somehow forgotten to put Murph in the mix these days.
i agree, the mixing in this is perfect
Might be the best version of get me. acoustic peel session is sick as well as the album version but this is just too good to be true.
yeah this song is really good
wow, remember recording this to VHS from MTV back in the 90's, I could never find Budge, thanks man.. so good.

J. PLAYING A TELE?? still one of my favorite dinosaur jr. sets
surprised me too- he had the two jazzmasters & the tele, no guitar stands, just these big beanbags. :-)
There's an interview w him saying he did all of his studio recorded solos on a tele.
@@hobiegunn My wife and I saw that a few days ago and were shocked. I have a Tele and she had the 2012 J Masic Jazzmaster.

I think he was just so into the guitar part that he didn't sing it
@@gonfreak4951 I think youre right.
Same I thought I was going crazy
La grande époque !
Love budge
Me TOOOOOOOOOO! 🎸 🥁 🎤!
jesus christ murph
These guys sound better than Nirvana and appear more cool. Whatever happened!
What happened was Beyond '07, Farm '09 & I bet on Sky '12 :)
and Give A Glimpse of What Yer Not
Goes to prove again that the cream doesn’t rise to the top in music...
They evolved, still putting out great stuff. Saw them in Philly a few weeks ago.
J's playing a telecaster...
whaaat?
So , shiockingly, he says he only uses a Telecaster in the studio. So what we hear on the records is a Tele not a JM . Crazy!
2:39 Get Me
MVP
Don't skip budge >.
Mascis looks like Tiny Tim
Malupet...
@FoolishDrunkz
You are completely right.
thanks for the vids
@SuperTlss during "Get Me"? nah pretty sure thats a telecaster
Murph was on point on this whole studio performance. It's a shame he seems to struggle a bit with timing and groove these days.
@FoolishDrunkz
its a Jazzmaster
Wait, is that a Jaguar?
Illuminati Brain Control no its a jazzmaster, take a close look at the pickguard or the pickups. But i can see were you coming from, the light makes it look like the upper part of the guitar is chrome
wtf
Dreadful.
just the way i like it!
Budge is a jam
If dreadful secretly means awesome
