Thank you so much Vibra cobra for uploading all these peel sessions. I listen to some of them daily almost. Polvo, the Damned, Eno and the winkies... The list goes on and on.....
Carlo Marchiori J “fake” disbanded the band in 1989 to piss off Lou, then “reformed” when Lou left.. So basically Lou was kicked out passive-aggressively..
Jay smiling + Lou dejected is about right for 1988. Dinosaur Jr. were the definitive band of the era. You'd here their music playing everywhere in the US until the late 1990's.
These are some nice alt versions of the tunes! Raisans, It Floats and Bulbs are pretty tight, though the guitar on Leper is sloppy. Doesn't matter, it's just nice to hear different versions of great songs.
This version of Bulbs was on the Blast First comp, Nothing Short of Total War, a year or so later. Always wanted to hear the rest of the Peel session. Thanks, Vibracobra23.
Haha... I always felt Nirvana was more Painted Willie, Meat Puppets and Black Flag meets the melody of the Vaselines, but they listened to a lot of stuff and mixed it all together.
@Ronald Drump That's all true, and I started it by bringing in bands as comparison points, but Nirvana had their own thing. What helps make these bands interesting is they aren't some formulaic "best of" combination of other groups, but they originate more organically.
@@2000Doriyas Kurt did say that about Pixies. Sure, he liked Sonic Youth and was friends with the Melvins, but those guys took inspiration from all kinds of underground and mainstream music. They called one song "Aero-Zeppelin" for god's sake, LoL. The biggest influence on that scene was probably Black Flag!
I love's Lou's screaming. I mean, he really lays into it. I know he's been writing his own great tunes for Dinosaur, but I actually miss how J would write a song and have Lou sing it. I'd like to have some of that on a new record.
+Vibracobra23 I'm not criticizing you, I just don't think that in '88 they would play three songs from Dinosaur and one from You're Living All Over Me, but no songs from Bug.
+Jackson Page I'm not saying that you are criticizing me...but that's the date it was recorded...it's a well established and provable fact...as shown by the recordings of the original broadcast that still exist...you'd have to ask the band why they recorded those particular songs at that particular time
@@johnnyslc exactly the point. Jay was jealous that lou was becoming better than him at that point. Considering that he was the frontman of the band he would have the biggest ego in the group
This is like J's best vocal performance. Or at least the most energetic.
lol energetic :)
He's definitely trying to go a different direction with his vocals here.. I'm glad he didn't stick with it I like sad J voice
Great to actually hear J's voice on a live recording!
Lou Barlow such an epic nerd here
Here?
@@masterpiecelacquers2766Right here, right now..
I fuckin Love This peel session!
They sound just raw loud fast dirty and just fuckin Amazing
Thank you so much Vibra cobra for uploading all these peel sessions. I listen to some of them daily almost. Polvo, the Damned, Eno and the winkies... The list goes on and on.....
There's a picture of J. smiling, with some beauty music to back it up
Fucking awesome. HUGE Dinosaur fan of 25+ years but never heard this before!!
I can't believe the band disbanded after this. They were peaking incredibly high, intense, cohesive, strong.
+Carlo Marchiori they didint break up until 1997!
Lou Barlow was put down around in 1988 or maybe a little later
87
Google motherfuckers lol

i think the picture’s from 1985, because they look like this on the back cover of the first album
they are sitting in front of boxes of tampons lol
nah, pads as in external.
@@ultrakool ah yes, I knew it was something for feminine hygiene lol pretty funny
of course, leave it up to john peel to capture the best sound and performance of any band live. I actually wish the album sounded this way.
I’m glad it doesn’t but this is an amazing studio session.
This version of The Leper has been stoking me hard for decades.
Great upload. Never heard this before.
I love dinosaur jr so much and the records they've made in the studio, but Peel's work here with them tops that
no it fucking doesnt
This version of Raisans is one of the best things I've ever heard. Thank god they got on this show
These are some nice alt versions of the tunes! Raisans, It Floats and Bulbs are pretty tight, though the guitar on Leper is sloppy. Doesn't matter, it's just nice to hear different versions of great songs.
Rip john peel
Recorded on my birthday :D
J looks like a member of The Cure
I think he's prolly going for a little Nick cave. I no he said the birthday party was his favorite band when they were around
@@derekstitt7215 in an interview it was said he was inspired by nick cave and he got his hair to stand up by frying egg whites into it
On the first record he did look like he was kinda going for a goth look with that medallion, lol
They used to be just kids.
Never seen J so young before.
Didn't we all. 😊
Dude these Peel sessions are so fucking Dank! Amazing job recording and the bands have a great energy always🖤🖤🖤🖤
cool
peel has done some great recordings
you are a SAINT
That riff for Leper has been the worst case of earworm I've ever had; it lasted for months and I couldn't remember where I'd heard it til now.
I wish this was released on vinyl.. like a ep or something nice
It's on the record "In Session" #6
Damn
❤️The 80s ❤ this is incredible
Their best recordings, by a lot.

This is 1 of tere best
good god, lou giving the death glare.
THE LEGEND.....
Damn, this performance of Does It Float is basically the source of Nirvana's entire thing.

Kurt specifically felt he was making a Pixies song with Teen Spirit, and their early stuff is very obviously Melvins / Sonic Youth inspired

A blast from the past.
They are so young here
awesome!
wow squared. i believe the term is "bangers."
J mascis looks so young!
Yeah and in this photo, too!
But now... he's Dinosaur Sr.
John Peel was a GOD!
They should have been as big as Nirvana
They were a hundred times better than nirvana
Good band
Good morning
good golly, early days indeed.
There had to be two guitars on this
J Mascis here sounds even younger. This easily could be from '85 or earlier.
I don't think Raisans existed yet in '85. It's definitely earlier than '88. Probably '86.
+Jackson Page It's the 8th of fuckin' November 1988

J plays a bit of Sweet Child of Mine, which didn't come out until '87. Has to be later than that.
7:55 That is Sweet Child O Mine of GNR jajajaja :v
I think in the picture J did not benefit from his father being a dentist (or that was the problem)
someone get lou some water
Murph looks like the normal one.
Want to add a Like, but don't want to ruin the number of likes it's on...420 likes so far...
XD
Lou should have kept that image
1988
1987
Leper is so PiL!
Lou looks pissed.
almost doesn't sound like his voice, is the photo from 88 too?
Probably debut album era
why can I hear drums?
Sketching mogs or cheaper
From the set list this must be earlier. 1986?
freaks & geeks
I can 'see' now why Lou got kicked out...
why?
Huh?
Yea, why? Great performer and song writer. Had Jay not kicked him, a lot of those Sebadoh songs could have been top 10.
For those who don't understand, he means visually. J and Murph look cool, but Lou looks like a fucking virgin. That's what TXZZ is trying to say.
