Oh my god, Ulfric's dialogue would have made that escape MUCH more interesting on the Stormcloak side. I mean, a shame the Imperials don't have a similar character to balance it out. I mean, Lokir would have actually balanced it out, idealogically. I WANT the start to be polarizing. Like the war itself. Not just a friend who happens to be on the side of a war.
I replied to another comment that would also balance this out. Say you side with the Empire and defend Whiterun. The Empire would then rebuild Helgan and start a campain for “hearts and minds”. With a more compelling Ulfric at the start, i feel it could help amplify the civil war.

On my first play through I was disoriented in Helgen with the dragon chaos that I didn't even know it was a game with two different sides to choose and I didn't know there were two different guys one from each side to follow out of the city. I saw the Imperial guy telling me to follow him so I did not know I had another option.

And finally dragonsreach where the Jarl lives is the cloud district. So basically you get to the cloud district very often
Judging by how well Ulfric's cut part in Helgen looks, it's possible that the original plan for the Ralof/Hadvar escape choice was to meet their corresponding leaders inside the keep (meet Ulfric with Ralof and Tulius with Hadvar) and both leaders would make comments on the state of Skyrim according to their views, giving more of an incentive to join them and demonize the other side, then one a second playthrough have second thoughts when choosing the other option upon realizing the full picture. Likely, by the time Ulfric's part was made the devs decided to cut the leader participation and just cut out Ulfric in the final product, making this decision before implementing Tulius.
@@pokedestined It feels awful to win for either side, really. You either assist the Stormcloaks to have an egotistical asshole in charge or assist the Empire and have an incompetent joke in charge. Plus, no matter what at least 1 city's entire population will hate you and make it awkward to visit there.
@@joshuakim5240 Yeah, they're both right, and they're both wrong. Ideal situation would be to get both sides to join together and oppose the Thalmor, but that's not an option in the game. Honestly I usually stay neutral as long as possible.
"It might corrupt our judgement while picking a side..." An imperial orders your execution while a Stormcloak helps you escape from fire raining from the sky... Yeah, pretty sure the developers were a bit biased.
I'm pretty sure that the stormcloaks victory in the civil war quest line is cannon and by the time the events of elder scroll six happens the third empire or whats left of it would completely collapse as i dont see them last much longer and the stormcloaks group would evolve from a rebel group to a second nordic empire and despite their history with one another they could join forces with the redguards to take down the aldmeri dominion which are a common enemy to both the nords and the redguards
@@CaporegimeMarcus after all the historical lore within the elder scrolls are based to some extent on our real world history and the third empire is based off the Roman empire and I did some research on the fall of the Roman empire and the cause of the fall of the Roman empire was the civil war between western Roman empire and eastern roman empire that was renamed as the Byzantine Empire. The Byzantine Empire won the civil war and whats left of the Roman empire completely collapsed with the Byzantine Empire completely taking over all the Roman empire old territories effectively becoming a big empire in the old Roman empire place. The war between the imperial legion of the third empire and the stormcloaks is inspired by the civil war between the Roman empire and the Byzantine Empire. If Bethesda chooses the stormcloaks victory over the imperial legion which the content that bethesda cut was hinting that the stormcloaks are canonically are the ones that are gonna win the civil war. then after the civil war the stormcloaks would eventually evolve into the second nordic empire while simultaneously replacing the third empire as one of the political powers of tamrial with whats left of the third empire completely collapseing altogether and if possible second nordic empire will settle what past issues they had with the imperial and the redguards and they could join the nordic empire. The bretons could also join the nordic empire provided that any past issues with them get resolved. With all this the second nordic empire could be strong enough to take down the aldmeri dominion or at least keep the aldmeri dominion off the main land of tamrial and prevent the aldmeri dominion from getting in both political and military respective anymore stronger then they are now
One secret I would like to know if that one nord would of lived, if he didn't cut the imperial solider off mid speech. Also why no one ever tried to reconstruct Helgen after the Alduin attack. Like seriously, I've spent years of in game time in skyrim, and no has even tried to rebuild it!
I was just thinkin bout this. How if the Empire actually cared bout Skyrim and its people they would start waging “hearts and minds”. Rebuild the nation while turnin the locals to your favor and eventually the Stormcloaks will run out of steam. It would be more convincing that the Empire isnt anything more then a drying husk of its former self.
It would make sense if they waited till alduin died since a dragon destroyed it but seriously I always wondered what quests I could've missed or people met followers or spouse in that town.
My favorite Helgen line: "I'm sorry... at least you'll die here in your homeland, in Skyrim/we'll make sure your remains are returned to Cyrodiil/Hammerfell/Orsinium/Morrowind/The Summerset Isle/Elsweyr/Valenwood/Black Marsh/High Rock. Follow the captain PRISONER!"
For Dunmer, he says "Gods really have abandoned your people haven't they" in reference to most of Morrowind no longer being livable after the Red Mountain erupted.
Huh. Are they implying that Orsinium was refounded??? Just looked it up on UESP, and it turns out Orsinium is indeed alive and well, just moved further south than before.

It’s crazy how much they packed into this game. I still love how much you’ve opened my eyes on all the love and attention they poured into this masterpiece!
@IdioticGamer1906 It doesnt make you like the Empire much after that eithier. Just the Emperor because he was cool enough to say "Fuck it let him go. Also here's amulet. Go save the world or it'll end." *dies*
@George Corbul I mean that's why I said they try to make biased interpretations. Tullis probably did this as quick as possible to kill Ulfric. Before The dominion could try to rescue him.
There is actually another survivor of Helgen located in Redwater den (a location found in the Dawnguard dlc). In the skooma den, there is a character called "Imperial Deserter" who when talked to remarks about Helgen and that he suffered a severe back injury and how skooma is the only thing that helps with the pain. I had thought it was a neat little detail to find another Helgen survivor.
Love the intro of Skyrim, it's such a good and balanced introduction. My first journey from Helgen to Riverwood to Whiterun is something I'll always remember. By the way Nate, will you ever reveal your current full mod list?
I actually had an odd glitch one time that left an immortal Vilod standing in Helgen and thought gender swap or just wore a dress for Ralof before I caught that subtitle thing.
Weirdly I DID know that bit about General Tulius. I seem to yeet out of Helgen too fast every time because I am impatient and hate that whole thing lol.
I always leave Helgen with Hadvar. Doing that gets you free iron and steel ingots. After talking with Alvor in his house, the piles of ingots under his armour bench can be taken. This lets me upgrade my gear for free before heading to Bleak Falls Barrow.
As clunky as the opening ended up, I can definitely see why they cut out the Ulfric escape. He’s cordial, heroic, and a hell of a lot of fun to fight alongside of - no way anyone would pick Imperial after that start. I would have loved to have something similar with Tullius in all his dry sarcastic glory.
Another thing about Vilod, if you have subtitles on, you can see and hear Vilod being one of the people to scream against the Stormcloaks when the executions are happening
Tanya Walter “OCD: An anxiety disorder that involves repeated thoughts (obsessions) that make a person driven to do something (compulsions).” In this case when Nate says “the elder scrolls” it compels WP4IUB to say “Skyrim”. But hey what do I know, it was only a joke after all.
In solitude during the brotherhood quest to kill Vittoria Vici, you can kill her using the rock above the place where she is giving the speech. I just found this out a week ago.
All you need is a small shack and a 10mm with 5000 rounds. Can't use hand to hand combat if Swan can't reach you and whenever it throws a boulder, just move a little bit to the right. Can't really hide from Aldwin as he bursts through a brick wall breathing fire at you.
I just want to thank you for keeping uploading skyrim videos, you still manage to keep youtube fresh and enjoyable for me, the amount of happiness these videos have bring me is insane, thank you and please keep it up!!!!
Helgen is hardly a city, even by Skyrim's definition and their laughably tiny cities. At best it is a settlement, or a township. But it's definitely and nowhere near close to being a city
That intro, I thought you were going to go into Space Jam. Hey you, what'chu goin' do Hey you, what'chu goin' do Party Dovahs in the house let's go! It's your boi Alduin. I ran out of lyrics.
i really appreciate the aesthetic mods you use for these videos. I love Skyrim but...she looks a little rough around the edges nowadays. The mods you use breathe some well needed life into the game and its always really nice to look at.
I wish, maybe post main quest or something, that there was a string of quests to restore Helgen back to a functional city and get your own house after finishing it in Helgen
@@tsfootballbroadcast9016 That would be cool too. Dragonborn Jarl. You decide what shops and people can come and live in the city. If you're an 'evil' character you can move in a bunch of thieves and assassins lol
Well tbh. A known problem people have with Nate is that he words things extensively for no reason for the sake of having more video time. Often at times he throws trivial stuff in the way, for instance, he'll talk about a mod and then be like "or is it?" and starts asking trivial things and answering the questions himself. Basically trying to get coverage for the sake of $$$.
SpicyBean Tofu Are you blind or something ? When did I say I dislike him? I clearly just mentioned "a known problem people have". I'm okay with his content but he still needs to improve. Learn to read next time mate.
This part about haming reminded me of a playthrough I had a few years back when I stumbled across these two in the mountains, I ended up doing the missions for the old man and at the end I murdered him to take his stuff, I was relatively new to the game and didn't realise I couldn't kill the child aswell.... Seeing this adds so much backstory to that playthrough, this kid had his intire family brutally murdered infront of him
I’ve played the intro to Skyrim more times then I can count. Two things I never found on my own. It’s Alduin that attacks Helgen. I always thought it was just some random dragon. There’s a choice in who you escape with
@@starmanda88 yeah. The dragons all look the same to me. Like I said, I couldn't tell it was Alduin, specifically, attacking Helgen. And only a few days later, I'm fighting another dragon outside Whiterun. I thought the Helgen attack was just some random dragon. And when fleeing the dragon while everything's on fire, I'm following the first guy inside. I never stuck around long enough to notice the other guy
Before watching the video, here’s some secrets I know: An Imperial gets snatched from the wall. Using the Imperial’s calm power when going with Ralof let’s you hear some hidden dialogue from an Imperial soldier. You can be knocked under the gate and leave, but your hands are still bound. Fast travelling to Helen as soon as you can might let you encounter Elenwen’s entourage. You can find some of Vilod’s mead with Juniper berries mixed in. Edit: Huh, I got the Elenwen one wrong.
Vilod's the guy who yells "justice!" in the beginning, and he's injured next to the imperials. Yes, Ralof just randomly switched people he was talking about for no good reason. I thought Vilod was the woman, too until I saw the subtitles 😩
the cut dialogue for lokir is so funny to me because he finds out hes bumping knees with the literal leader of an entire rebellion thats ripping apart an entire province of tamriel and the first thing he does is yell at him

Alduin later in Sovngarde: I played myself.
Congratulations you played yourself
I was the person who chose the stormcloaks and at the end of the questline, felt awful. 😩
@@pokedestined
It feels awful to win for either side, really.
"It might corrupt our judgement while picking a side..."
An imperial orders your execution while a Stormcloak helps you escape from fire raining from the sky...
@@werty21100 Yeah, I have a feeling the Empire is over. I just hope that they give us a cool new faction to fight the Dominion with.
With all this the second nordic empire could be strong enough to take down the aldmeri dominion or at least keep the aldmeri dominion off the main land of tamrial and prevent the aldmeri dominion from getting in both political and military respective anymore stronger then they are now
But if they had added the Ulfric escaping with you it definately would have put most players onto the stormcloaks side.
Honestly the Stormcloaks can have Skyrim for all I care. As long as the Thalmor don’t have it and Ulfric dies because he’s a bastard then I’m good
One secret I would like to know if that one nord would of lived, if he didn't cut the imperial solider off mid speech. Also why no one ever tried to reconstruct Helgen after the Alduin attack. Like seriously, I've spent years of in game time in skyrim, and no has even tried to rebuild it!
Because it gets taken over by bandits? Lol
There is a mod that actually does that. It even has a quest line. And it's cool to see Helgen Reborn!
@@marcovchb you also get a cool tower, and the peddlers have a metric shitton of gold.
It would make sense if they waited till alduin died since a dragon destroyed it but seriously I always wondered

To be honest I always felt that the introduction was kinda biased to Stormcloaks. Simple because you wake imprisoned by the Empire. But whatever.
Ralof: Hey you, you're finally awake.
Me: Ah shit, here we go again.
Hey u...ur finally awake
It's a GREAT intro, but very bad for replaying or speed running. Suuuuuuper long setup. Alternate start is a great mod.
I really want the graphics mod he has it looks amazing
12:17 I didn't know Vilod had a gender change after Alduin's attack xD went from sweet girl that makes mead with juniper berries to a dude lol
Vilod is a different person

As for Haming and Froki, the Helgen Reborn mod actually adds a reason to do Froki's quest, as that allows the player to invite them back to Helgen.

There actually is one dialogue Version in the german Version that was cut out
I always lip sync when Nate says “ the elder scrolls 5, skyrim.

In solitude during the brotherhood quest to kill Vittoria Vici, you can kill her using the rock above the place where she is giving the speech. I just found this out a week ago.
Overtaken by bandits, Aldwin's first target, favorite chopping center for the Empire.
Fallout Boston is looking pretty safe.
Crisis Among Infinite Darths AC Swan?
All you need is a small shack and a 10mm with 5000 rounds. Can't use hand to hand combat if Swan can't reach you and whenever it throws a boulder, just move a little bit to the right.
Can't really hide from Aldwin as he bursts through a brick wall breathing fire at you.

Another thing about Vilod is that if you have subtitles on, you can see that he says "Justice" when the first Stormcloak gets beheaded.
Helgen is hardly a city, even by Skyrim's definition and their laughably tiny cities. At best it is a settlement, or a township. But it's definitely and nowhere near close to being a city

Haming. I never put it together that he was the kid from the opening scene. I totally missed that when I saw him at Froki's house.
I wish, maybe post main quest or something, that there was a string of quests to restore Helgen back to a functional city and get your own house after finishing it in Helgen

He does it himself, to break the tension.
Well tbh. A known problem people have with Nate is that he words things extensively for no reason for the sake of having more video time. Often at times he throws trivial stuff in the way, for instance, he'll talk about a mod and then be like "or is it?" and starts asking trivial things and answering the questions himself. Ironically, I just woke up. So yes, me, I’m finally awake.
Exactly the same, life's crazy
I didn't even realize there were two people you could follow out of Helgen so I just stuck with Hadvar cos I genuinely didn't see the other person!
That was weird - how'd Nate know I just woke up from taking a nap?
This part about haming reminded me of a playthrough I had a few years back when I stumbled across these two in the mountains, I ended up doing the missions for the old man and at the end I murdered him to take his stuff, I was relatively new to the game and didn't realise I couldn't kill the child aswell.... Seeing this adds so much backstory to that playthrough, this kid had his intire family brutally murdered infront of him
I’ve played the intro to Skyrim more times then I can count. Two things I never found on my own.
It’s Alduin that attacks Helgen. I always thought it was just some random dragon.

Hey, I didn't get that "Ulfric" part. How did you do that?
Before watching the video, here’s some secrets I know:
An Imperial gets snatched from the wall.
Nate: Helgen is one of the most well known locations in RPG history.
Me: That's....debatable
Nate: Also it's a huge meme
Me: Agreed
The mod, "Helgen Reborn", gives you an option to bring Haming and his grandfather back to Helgen, after you help to rebuild it. Nice touch.
It hurt my brain when you called vilod a guy💀 we know nords are a pure breed 😤
I was starting to think i was the only one who noticed that as i scrolled through the comments.
Glad that i wasn't 🤣
Vilod's the guy who yells "justice!" in the beginning, and he's injured next to the imperials. Yes, Ralof just randomly switched people he was talking about for no good reason. I thought Vilod was the woman, too until I saw the subtitles 😩
Vilod IS a man though. You can spawn him in the game. He has an NPC and everything
Yeah, he switched topics fast
Every time I make a new save I always come back to helgen at level 40 to see what’s up, usually like 5-10 bandits attack me
I wish we could've seen and explored helgen and met all the villagers before it was destroyed
the cut dialogue for lokir is so funny to me because he finds out hes bumping knees with the literal leader of an entire rebellion thats ripping apart an entire province of tamriel and the first thing he does is yell at him
