They are going to get a judgement on the civil side. She was just hoping he would be convicted because it would help the $ amount which pads her check.
A conviction would increase her already good chances that she would prevail in court or negotiate a better settlement. She is correct in saying that the criminal case wasn’t decided on the merits of the case. It was dismissed with prejudice because of an egregious pattern of prosecutorial and police misconduct. I thought it was just sloppiness and unprofessionalism, but it was worse. The police and/or the prosecution actively tried to hide evidence. That is why the case was dismissed WITH prejudice and New Mexico won’t be able to refile. The merits of the family’s case remain unchanged. A guilty verdict against Baldwin in the criminal case would only have provided a little push. He was NOT exonerated. But nor was he proven guilty. Yet he is still responsible.

People need to remember that civil action in criminal action are two different things, whether or not Alec Baldwin has civil liabilities is completely different than criminal liabilities. Personally, I don’t believe that people should be arrested for something that they were not responsible for at all, for example, Baldwin was not responsible for checking the weapon ever and neither is any other actor on a movie that is considered, no live bullets. However, as a producer, I think he has responsibility in effect that he hired an armor that had dual duties and clearly she couldn’t handle the duties that she had. I think him firing a gun at person when he has been told by the people responsible for the safety that the gun is cold, regardless, whether he accidentally did it or it didn’t do it at all in the gun went off, it’s all the same. It wasn’t his fault or responsibility. Prove that he meant to fire the gun, there is no proof that he meant to do that whether he did squeeze the trigger or not. For the civil litigation, it should be every person responsible for safety and the management of the safety people. If Alec Baldwin falls into that then that includes him.

As an actor, I do not see what is his responsibility. He was not there as a gun expert, he was told to act and he had no reason to believe that this weapon had real bullets. People saying he had to check the gun before, what exactly to check? How can a non-expert distinguish the difference between real and fake bullets? Moreover, it is a movie set, you have experts that guarantee the safety of the actors and the actors are supposed to perform fake "reckless" actions, according to the script. There are films where toddlers were carrying guns, what about them? Should an actor inspect the grenades in a ww2 movie, or the bombs in an action movie? On the other hand, all the producers have responsibility and should by tried together due to failure of the safety rules on their set. Not only Baldwin, all 7 of them. Why they go only after him in the civil suit? That is easy, because he is the richest and they want to go for the biggest amount. If the other producers are in the same trial the risk is that he could transfer the blame to them and the final amount will be reduced. So, at the end of the day, it is not about justice only, it is about the money too.
Not that I have any idea how these things work, but shouldn't a lawyer for that civil case just keep the thing quiet, I would imagine these things would almost always end in a settlement, there's no reason for publicity here.
