    Thank you Dr Mike, great to have lots of tools to help in recovery, a well presented video as usual with clear instructions supported by accompanying visuals, makes life easier, sometimes in other content provider videos that I’ve watched they do too much talking and it’s easy to lose the thread of the exercise 😁 especially when one is more tired than normal. Dr. Mike,
    I enjoyed your video. I am about 5 weeks out from TKP for my left knee. I have little to no pain for the most part. I go to PT twice a week and right now, I am at 100 degree flexion and 12 degrees of extension. My biggest issue is extension. I have had numerous surgeries on my left leg due to osteomyelitis as a child. A couple of the PTs believe that old scar tissue might be adhering to the new scar tissue. I am trying to determine if the Kinesio tape would help with my getting better flexing and/or extension.
    Thanks,
    Mark

    • @MovewithDrMike
      @MovewithDrMike  5 месяцев назад

      Hey Mark! 🙏🏻 thank you for watching and I appreciate you coming by to comment! I’ve commonly used the Kinesio tape on my patients after knee replacement to reduce edema which as a result improves their range of motion. When a joint is swollen and inflamed it will typically be more difficult to move, but as swelling subsides that usually results in greater range of motion. I do think this could help in addition to continuing to work on your knee extension stretches! I made a few videos on my favorites exercises to help restore flexibility in the knee after surgery! I think you might find them helpful! I’ll link them below! ruclips.net/video/vOlS7caH2h0/видео.htmlsi=_PwDFoGUVyQARQ8t Hoping for a fast and smooth recovery!

      @MovewithDrMike  6 месяцев назад +2

      Hey Brian thanks for stopping by to watch and taking the time to comment! I’m sorry you’re experiencing this much pain. Sounds like you might be experiencing some nerve tension which is caused when the nerves behind the leg that run into the hip and lower back become irritated. I’ve found that people who can’t tolerate lying on their back with their leg elevated sometimes do better on their side. Some lie on the surgery side and others lie on the non affected side both with a pillow in between their legs. Hope this helps and take care.

    • @MovewithDrMike
      @MovewithDrMike  6 месяцев назад +1

      @@brijones8769 it sounds like you’re on the right track! Good job ! If this pain is new for you then I’d definitely monitor it to assess if it’s getting worse or better over time. For procedures like this it’s typical to have more pain in the beginning and then as you heal it tends to improve. It’s always best to communicate with your surgeon about best options for pain management! Thanks for watching!

And if it was my knee I would continue to use the tape on myself to do whatever it takes to speed recovery and reduce any swelling that occurs! The only thing I would say is that each product may use a different adhesives so just monitor your skin for the first few days after application to ensure you don’t have any skin irritation from the tape! Why is kidney disease listed?

    • @MovewithDrMike
      @MovewithDrMike  6 месяцев назад +1

      Renal insufficiency is a contraindication because the tape can help reduce swelling in the surgery leg which will result in moving fluid back into the rest of the body. In addition this mechanism can affect how your kidneys handle fluids. Always consult with your physician prior to use if you have any of the conditions listed under contraindications.

    I‘m 8 months post-op with a RTKR and still feel a lot of “stiffness pain” down the front that seems like patellar tendonitis, and what feels like a ghost pain on the lateral side in back, possibly from the removal of my ACL. My scar is healed & looking good. Do your patients benefit from taping down the scar line to help with the patellar discomfort? Any suggestions for the pain in the area of my missing ACL? Thanks!

      Thanks for stopping by to watch! The tape is typically used to help with swelling control and pain. So if you’re having pain over the anterior knee then yes I would try placing over the area and see how your pain feels. I would also recommend exploring some myofacial release techniques and scar massage over the incision. This also can provide some good pain relief if the skin around the knee is stiff and immobile! Hope this helps and thanks again for watching!

    Why are knee replacments so painful? I have had both hips replaced and the pain really wasn't that strong. Healing was not long either.

    • @MovewithDrMike
      @MovewithDrMike  2 месяца назад

      The knee replacement procedure is a simple surgery but your body goes through so much learning how to reuse the new knee! And depending on previous health history and pain tolerance everyone experiences pain differently! Find what works best for you to manage your pain and stick to it! I often see the individuals who can control their pain the best have better outcomes! Wishing you the best!!

      Thanks for stopping by to watch! In order to become a physical therapist you now have to complete a doctorate in physical therapy which allows one to use the Dr. abbreviation. This is different than a medical doctor MD.

    Why do u have to cut it like that instead of 1 whole piece

    • @MovewithDrMike
      @MovewithDrMike  2 дня назад +1

      Thanks for watching! Cutting the tape helps cover more surface area but you can also use the tape in one whole piece if it’s easier. Great question!
