    Sexual addiction is underrated. People tend to normalize pornography and sleeping with everyone. That's not cool. Sexual addiction is an addiction like any other (e.g alcoholism or drug addiction). The future is dark. Worrying times, the ones we live in

    I have a sexual compulsive disorder as I use sex as a copping mechanism it gotten to a point I don’t want to do have random hookups anymore. I have struggles of building relationships with women. I lost virginity when I was 22 since then I just want sex but it’s compulsive to a point I feel depressed and empty after this morning I feel even worse.

    What if the trigger is time? As in time since the last event? Sort of like food - time since last meal. How do you avoid time?

    • @DocSnipes
      @DocSnipes  Год назад +1

      An increase in drive with elapsed time isn't unusual, especially for men. (Max out for most men is 3 to 7 days, then some leveling) Experiencing this alone would not mean you have an addiction. Addiction involves compulsive seeking and taking of a substance or performing of an activity despite negative or harmful consequences. Having a biologically driven craving doesn't equal addiction.

Many therapists offer online sessions, which could provide you with the support you need regardless of your location. Additionally, there are resources and support groups online that can offer guidance and support. Taking the first step to reach out is important for your well-being.

    Was hoping this was gonna be more about sex addiction rather than porn addiction. If one is addicted to sex how does one have a normal sex life without becoming addicted again? As I understand it, addiction to drugs alcohol, porn etc must be avoided completely otherwise a risk of relapse is highly likely.

    • @fantasticbeast9962

      That’s a hard question to answer. There is no set amount of time it takes. You can be a sex addict who abstains and maintains a bottom line, but without actually addressing the underlying issues that put you there in the first place, it’s only a matter of time before you do it again. But the same mechanism driving PA is driving SA. In both cases, you’re getting intense hits of dopamine, followed by a why-did-I-just-do-that feeling. Only with SA, it’s beyond fantasy, so the dopamine hits are even more than that of PA. Same mechanism nonetheless.
      For me, PA was my catalyst for SA. I wanted replicate what I saw in the videos, because that was my representation of how sex was. It was also a means to keep feelings of chaos in my life because that’s how I grew up. I’ve been working through these issues, and a lot of repressed memories have come to the forefront. I have been tackling them, one-by-one as they do and it’s difficult, but it’s much better than the emptiness and worthlessness I was feeling after acting out. In other words, feelings of shame and self-loathing.
      Once I reached these revelations, I was able to put give a voice to the brain hijacker that wasn’t previously there. Not only that, I named the hijacker. Why? Because every time the hijacker said, “I’ve got a great: let’s watch some porn, or look at personals,” I would say “Beat it, ,” though much more aggressively. The voice almost immediately disappeared. Though what I’ve found in recovery is that it keeps coming back.
      It’s almost as if I no longer felt as though I was beside myself, screaming at myself to stop. That said, you do have cravings to battle. As you battle them, you will deal with those feelings of shame and everything uncomfortable. The feelings will be so uncomfortable that you will start to contemplate acting out as a means to stop the discomfort. This is where putting a voice and a name to the hijacker will go a long way.
      You WILL feel irritated, depressed, anxious, angry, anhedonic. You need a plan to work through them.
      It’s not easy, and there’s no set timeline, but the more you can working on the negative feelings and have a game plan for tackling the cravings, the less intense they will be, eventually going away.

      I'm not a therapist, but since you weren't given an answer to your question, I will make a suggestion. Since you don't have a partner, you can try engaging in masterbation, but with boundaries in place, which you decide on and committ to ahead of time.
      Those boundaries might be:
      1) Do not use pornography
      2) Give yourself a time limit. Start with 30 minutes per session, and half as many sessions as you would normally engage in per week
      3) Agree to not stay up past your bedtime, and to not cut into the time you normally require to get ready for work or school in the morning.
      4) Begin spending 30 minutes per day learning how to meditate, where you learn relaxed breathing, guided imagery, and other de-stressing techniques. Make it a habit, so that you de-stress each day, and so it will feel natural to turn to this when you have high stress.

    • @YamCherie
      @YamCherie 3 года назад +5

      Here is one more important one:
      5) Tell yourself that this new way is your decision, a gift to yourself and your future. Don't tell yourself that you're being punished or deprived. It is a choice, because that way you feel empowered and in control of your life. Keep it positive. You will realize that it takes some of the weight off of your shoulders. God Bless
