While Germans went completely wrong direction with their designs (BMW and Merc specifically) I think Polestart just nails it. It is an extremely beautiful car both interior and exterior. Yeah I am wondering what you Saku mean. Based on your name you probably have have winter driving experience and P2 handles exceptionally well on slippery conditions.
I will NEVER get on board with the lack of a rear windshield. The camera is great for when ur driving the view is always clear and isn't blocked by people in the back moving about. But when parkin if it can't see out the back window I cannot gauge where the limits of my car are, I always look back even if the cars I drive have rear cams. I used the rear cams to line up the parking, but actually look back while entering the space.
I always use the side mirrors for reverse parking and driving backwards. I find it more intuitive and reliable than the camera view. I use the 360 cam for perfect line up and the rear cam to see how much space I have left to reverse. No need for a back window for me personally.
@@Extralarse Same here, just camera doesn't cut it for me either, combo of both is great tho. I'm definitely sure I'd have a bad time parking if I didn't have the camera at all.

@@Extralarse same here. I rarely use rear view mirror when reversing and parking. Side mirrors + camera is just fine. No rear windows allows more headroom to backseat and only minor downside (=no rear window)
@@gunnarmonell7253 I think this is pretty clever solution. It allow structural beam, which typically is very near to your head, moved more backwards and provide better headroom. But then would make rear window very small -> solution: just drop window and put camera there.
It looks very good, and I usually hate these, a real international effort, Swedish design, UK tech dev centre and Chinese engineering pulling it all together
Great video, very informative and content not seen on some of the other channels. What is the line gap on the trunk lid? Is that where a back window panel would normally go? In case they ever decide to put a window in?
I'm sold about the lack of rear window. It really allows the boot to be huge while keeping an aerodynamic shape. The roof glass makes up for what would otherwise be a kind of claustrophobic rear sitting.
Looks good, but it looks like the frount is still cramped because of that huge middle island. Really my only complaint about polestar design is that they keep putting that huge thing in the way.
It's not going to do as well in China and it's not even needed in China. What you didn't say is that, unlike other Polestars, this bases of this car is a Zeekr, not a Volvo. So you can buy the same car for less as the Zeekr001 in a sense. Yes, the tuning will be different, the interior materials, but the Zeekr's interior is more tailored toward the China market while the Polestar is typical Scandinavian muted and sober. This is likely Polestar's best seller.
This car was made public a couple of weeks ago and until you mentioned that display model had 22 inch wheels I had no idea what the scale of the vehicle was. A little tip for Polestar, maybe throw in a football or basketball in your marketing photos.
You give a lot of credit to the work around sustainability... One can question whether 102 kWh battery, a cw-factor of 0,26 and thus a rather limited WLTP number is so very sustainable. Same goes for the P3. Actually worse with 0,29... Still I agree, these cars looks really great!
Oh yeah no the lack of back window is a deal breaker for me. I've tried to drive with the rear window camera things and I hate it. I would not be able to get used to it I don't think
I used to think just like you until I drove a new model car with a backup camera and the improvements over just three years ago is amazing. The field of view is wider, the clarity is almost as good as my Samsung OLED TV and the ability to zoom in/out or pan left/right goes beyond what I could do with just a rear glass. Some even come with night vision so you can see images in total darkness. One less window I need to have tinted to hide my belongings from others IMO.
@@pnketia Can you clean the rear camera when it gets dirty or covered in snow without getting out? And rear view mirrors also let you check on people in the back seat without turning around. As for the rest of the car, it's pretty meh with a range that would have been great four years ago. And why do manufacturers insist of sticking monitors up on the dashboard like afterthoughts? Really ugly design choice. Which I guess matches the rest of the interior from what I can tell.
@@-_James_- Yes some cars have hidden the camera in the logo on the trunk lid and when the car is put in reverse it opens. As far as seeing backseat passengers GM already addressed that issue with their digital rear view mirror. Many cars now and in the future will utilize the sensors and the cameras to automatically display obstructions and apply the brakes if necessary. Technology has come a long way now and relying on individuals to do the right thing is going the way of cars with no safety systems back in the days.
@@-_James_- I think there is washer for rear camera and its location is such that I do not think it will even get dirty easily. There will be switch to check rear passangers if you want. For me interior was really nice.
It looks nice. No sure about the rear window but everything else looks good. The Polestar logo needs to be a bit more visible. Maybe just lit up like many manufacturers are doing.
60.000 euros.. well, that stop most buyers from getting one! And funny how the Polestar 4 looks so much like the Tesla 3 in styling. I wonder why? Polestar wish to be their own type of EV but then copy Tesla in EV looks. Another rich persons toy at that price. Most people lucky enough to afford such a expensive EV will most likely buy a Tesla model 3 or Y than buy the Polestar 4. The charging network only Tesla have will mean you will always have that there. No others have it so they loose out unless they pick the Tesla new launched All EV's change program and pay over the top rates to use the Tesla super chargers. And of course Elliot is happy he can buy one no problem the 90% who can't well never mind.
It used to be you could get cars like the Volvo 745 with a massive view out the back of the car. But to reduce aerodynamics and give cars a more sporty look, they all have less and less visibility out the back windows. My family has an old model S and even that has poor visibility out the rear. I guess polestar finally said screw it and just replaced the window with a camera.

Three very different cars. The 2 is the Volvo Concept 40.2 designed about 2016. Polestar used the body because Volvo didn't. It's built on the CMA platform, a non-bespoke platform. It's basically a sedan version of the Volvo XC40 Recharge electric with a sportier tuning. The 3 shares with the Volvo EX90 and is built on Volvo's SPA2 platform. IT was turned into a bespoke platform. It uses all of Volvo's safety systems, Volvo seats, Volvo's controls, and basically is Polestar's version of the Volvo EX90. The Polestar 4 is built on Geely's PMA (SEA) platform and is a re-skin of the Zeekr001 "crossover." Zeekr was designed by Lynk and Co. and Geely spun it off to its own company. It uses different safety systems than Volvo and while the 4 has some Volvo parts inside, it has a lot more Zeekr parts though the interior is full of Polestar's usual materials shared with Volvo. So, essentially, these are 3 very different cars but with similar design cues from Polestar. They are different sizes with the 2 being a sedan size, the 4 being much larger and higher up and the 3 being a shooting brake styled SUV and much larger than the 2 and larger than the 4.
Well done Polestar, Prefer this to the 3 actually, the way the rear looks as if they will have option of a window for markets that won't allow , kinda hope the UK version has a window, with standard rear view mirror, I have an e-tron 55 with virtual mirrors and yes for blindspots and safety features they are great but they just arent as good for vision as normal glass. That said Polestar take my money !!!
I think a virtual rear view mirror makes more sense than virtual side mirrors as it removes all the obstacles (small rear window, seatbacks, people's heads, rear wiper etc). So it actually solves a problem. It also keeps the mirror in exactly the same spot which isn't the case for the side mirrors.
@@jakecoventry9004 I like your thinking, but go drive a car with virtual side mirrors if you haven't already, and you will see what i mean, even if its an OLED 4k. 8k, whatever, the clarity and vision is nowhere near as good as glass, especially at night.. and we havent even mentioned the dirt it will no doubt pick up in bad weather. I live in Scotland it rains a little here ! how will they deal with that, mini cam wiper ?? my guess is that the final production wont have it, but ... I'd still buy it :)
Polestar will need to REALLY up their electrical efficiency game. Porsche will soon have a Macan-EV based on the platform of the VW ID.7 which seems kind of efficient and somewhat up to date for charge speed. Porsche is great at offering their buyers a premium quality that is being paid for. For Cayenne I'm sure they'll eventually have a new platform that is the next step up from Taycan/Audi Q8 e-tron, etc. It may well get benchmarket against Lucid's offerings. For me as someone who wants to be a buyer, I know they'll need to to get my choice. With unlimited funds, I'd have someone put together the best things from Porsche, Lucid, Tesla and maybe Mercedes together. And throw in a joker: McLaren, for semi-affordable cerbon fibre structural bits and real weight savings. Rear wheel steer, light Lucid motors and converters, light Tesla Plaid battery (cell to chassis seems a fad still, heavier rather than lighter), Porsche Taycan interior, Lucid or better: EQXX level aero effort, Mercedes E-Class Estate (Or better, R-Class) practicality, Tesla traction control and track mode. Truly flat luggage floor with folded seats. Passenger seat backrest hatch to provide lounge from the back seat.
Saying something is 100% recyclable is just another marketing gimmick, like my household recycle bin, I know most of it will end up in landfill or burnt, why don't they use 100% recycled materials, That would be great marketing. Great video from Elliott as always.
I always ignore that bullshit, but I do wonder... we sure eat a lot of burgers, where are all the cow skins go? - or even more frightening, what if is no cow in burgers. 😆
@@SamPrince yeah... less and less... all cars have ''vegan leather'' or ''recycled plastic'' inside, most shoes are now PVC. - When I was a kid, everything was leather.
The only question I have is on the switch between the internal and external camera on the rear view - I assume it's just a button on the bottom of the mirror and how does the interior view look? Got a sprog in the backseat that needs checking on occasionally!
Great design, Thank you Elliot. Best report on this car yet. You an choose the ambient light based on different planets (Sun/Mercury/Venus/Earth/Mars/Jupiter/Saturn/Uranus/Neptune). The Polestar badge in the front has a light as well. Can't wait for your drive.

Owning a car with a camera based rear view mirror, I've gotta say its not great and it takes a second or two for your eyes to refocus on what is a screen rather than a mirror which at times is quite jarring. It sounds a great idea and relatively futuristic but you end up getting into the business of having to wipe the rear camera almost each time you drive during poor weather conditions. Which in the UK we often have. The Polestar 4 looks like a sweet spot to me and despite my comments above, the camera based rearview mirror would not necessarily put me off. Its a great looking motor and one Id seriously consider.
Hmmpf... I think I'm finally over the point, where I enjoy tracking EVERY new (european) EV entry. Polestar probably did a good job with this one, but I've finally had my fill of the ever same "luxury" variants of essentially the same car. By now, these kind of presentations just evoke exhausting indifference.
Polestar lineup is a little confusing to me. They seem to be in the identical segment. What are the differences between 3 and 4 besides the back of the cars?
Since you are in China can you please confirm an information i've read on internet...is it true that ia all China there are more than 5Million EV charging stations?
Funny. Check the interior especially the seats of another Geely brand - Zeekr 001. They’re absolutely the same. Also the transparency variable glass roof.
despite a gulf in price, I think the Polestar 4 looks more special than the more expensive Polestar 3, the headlights are superb

Simple fix … don’t buy one !!!🤷🏻♂️
@@tngerman Wow, you must have felt like a genius writing such a thought provoking and insightful comment. Its not like my comment literally outlines the reason why I wont buy this car.
@@Extralarse same here. I rarely use rear view mirror when reversing and parking. Side mirrors + camera is just fine. No rear windows allows more headroom to backseat and only minor downside (=no rear window)
Look good. I hope you got a good look at the mg cyberster.
Me: "Oh, a nice lookking car"
Elliot: "It has no rear window"
Me: "You can keep it, thanks"
It really mimics the glass solution of the Tesla 3, but omits to let it swipe back down as a rear window for ... for .. a bigger boot lid? What!?
@@gunnarmonell7253 I think this is pretty clever solution. It allow structural beam, which typically is very near to your head, moved more backwards and provide better headroom. But then would make rear window very small -> solution: just drop window and put camera there.
Great episode - love the creative graphics! 👏👏
More Auto Shanghai 2023 coverage please!
It's just a massive show and a lot to crunch through, many RUclips car channel are on the ground in Shanghai rn.
Did you check if the boot has a parcel shelf? I'm trying to work out if my dog will be able to breathe in the boot 😅
no back window = no thanks 😂
Great looking ride!! 65K USD? That's too bad.
It looks very good, and I usually hate these, a real international effort, Swedish design, UK tech dev centre and Chinese engineering pulling it all together
1:47 🔎102kWh / 400 kW. Less than 15 minutes range 😂😂
Great video, very informative and content not seen on some of the other channels. What is the line gap on the trunk lid? Is that where a back window panel would normally go? In case they ever decide to put a window in?
I've driven the Polestar 3. I don't think it's a luxury car in my opinion after the test drive. I like the ID4 WAY more
Where you drive PS 3, it´s not tested by media? You meant PS2 if you compare it to ID family?
Looks astonishing.
In wich case this car cpmpetes with Porsche?
This car was made public a couple of weeks ago and until you mentioned that display model had 22 inch wheels I had no idea what the scale of the vehicle was. A little tip for Polestar, maybe throw in a football or basketball in your marketing photos.
You give a lot of credit to the work around sustainability... One can question whether 102 kWh battery, a cw-factor of 0,26 and thus a rather limited WLTP number is so very sustainable. Same goes for the P3. Actually worse with 0,29... Still I agree, these cars looks really great!
Still good!!
Ruin Porsche's day? The presenter spoke Tesla. Who's day are we really ruining Tesla or Porsche?
Well, either...or both!?
It doesn't matter and nobody cares......
Oh yeah no the lack of back window is a deal breaker for me. I've tried to drive with the rear window camera things and I hate it. I would not be able to get used to it I don't think
Are you also a car gay?
If I was ever to trade my Tesla Model 3 in, it would be for this car. Great intro by Elliot.
Same here. Already orderd my P4. Best thing I have ever done. The Polestar Team is the greatest
Thanks.Jim Bell (Australia)
It looks nice. No sure about the rear window but everything else looks good. The Polestar logo needs to be a bit more visible. Maybe just lit up like many manufacturers are doing.
It will be lit up.
It is lit up.
Nice to see them finally not make a Tesla knock-off.
Minimalism in an EV would look more like an e-bike IMO. A Specialized Turbo Como SL would do the trick
Looks great, though I'm not a fan of the rear window situation.
Excited, hot, and sweaty! Golly!
Amazing! I need this in my garage
Can’t wait for it!
The editing is top tier 👍
... but the mic sound is bottom tier!
The design is really really good
60.000 euros.. well, that stop most buyers from getting one!
Looks like gv 60 oops i forgot volvo is owned by chinese company now.
The steering wheels in the 3 and 4 look substantially better
Why is there no rear window? What is the purpose?
Allows for a larger sunroof and it is much easier to engineer as a single piece.
Love your work 👍
So what happened to Polestar 3? Didn’t think that was even available yet? And now we are on to 4?
Better styling than a Tesla 😍😍

What is the difference between polestar 2,3,4? They all look about the same to me.
What!? Could not be more different from a P2 in appearance.
It's so important in today's world to get to the grocery store in 3.9 seconds!

It may be coming from Volvo. May.
The Macan EV does not use the same platform as the ID.7.
2024 P2 has pretty good efficiency already.

Efficiency though? Have they improved it?
The Tesla Moment is over......Wall St just hasn't realized it yet. It only gets tougher for Elon from here. All bubbles pop eventually. Always.
Already Orderd my Polestar 4! Its time to go!

@@johnsmith-cw3wo no. We wear it, or sit on it, or hold things wrapped in it. You've come across leather at some point?
@@SamPrince yeah... less and less... all cars have ''vegan leather'' or ''recycled plastic'' inside, most shoes are now PVC. - When I was a kid, everything was leather.
That thing looks great! Way better than what the BMW designers are making!
What kind of ground clearance does it have?
The only question I have is on the switch between the internal and external camera on the rear view - I assume it's just a button on the bottom of the mirror and how does the interior view look? Got a sprog in the backseat that needs checking on occasionally!
The entire history of the internet exists to bring this to us.
Vehicle to live sounds dangerous 😂
I wish I had V2L on my EV though - it would make camping without an electric hookup a lot easier!
I have driven the Taycan and all Polestar 2 variants. The Polestar 2 is a nice car. But for steering and chassis alone, it’ll be a looong way for Polestar to match Porsche quality in these fields.

To me 3 is 'proper' SUV. 4 is more like 80% sedan and 20% SUV/Coupe. In real life 3 looks much taller and kind of bigger.
quite like the sustainability approach
this car looks so good! I'm just concerned about that camera sticking out at the side in the front!!
Since you are in China can you please confirm an information i've read on internet...is it true that ia all China there are more than 5Million EV charging stations?
So, about twice as much as I want to pay.
No rear window looks really ugly, and I wanted it to be smaller not bigger tbh
Funny. Check the interior especially the seats of another Geely brand - Zeekr 001. They’re absolutely the same. Also the transparency variable glass roof.
