This video helped me realize that the reasons for the US sanctioning China is more so because without international trade barriers, Chinese manufactuering will literally bankrupt the American competitors.
The American companies would bankrupt themselves.

Our companies are the ones that sold out to China.
So they could increase their profit margins.
By utilizing slave labor in China, and few

In the end.
China has terrible manufacturing processes, and will always choose cheap over quality to maximize profits.

There are review videos where 4 passengers gave different commands at the SAME TIME, and within 5 seconds, all 4 commands were being carried out by the Xpeng. Chinese cars are by far the best in the world at voice command software for sure. P7i also has lidar, updated interior, a new fancy heat pump system (accounting for the increased range), and revised suspension tuning, because the first batch of European P7 customers still felt it was too softly sprung. If you already though the P7 chassis drove nicely, the P7i is apparently a pretty significant upgrade, despite the styling not changing too much. Car still looks damn good though, so I guess the styling doesn't really need much updating.
Great video! I live in China, have done for the last 17 years, and I'm always blown away by how rapidly the ratio of EVs to gas vehicles is changing. This definitely has to do with just the vast amount of options they have, here in China, when it comes to EVs to choose from.

I was in China earlier this year, so many EVs, most I’ve never heard of, but dang, some of those EVs just looked the biz!!
There was one I saw which is a people carrier, a smaller version of Toyota Alphard, taxi driver told me it has 600km range and cost equivalent of £20k
600km is CLTC range (the Chinese official range metric) which is like 35% higher than WLTP, which is like 20% higher than what it really is. Doesn't mean it's not impressive for the price, but I would definitely not believe the quoted range from China.

@@mdjey2 you'll be able to do stuff without taking your eyes of the road. In many cases, it's faster to use voice than tapping on the screen. This is especially so when EVs have far more features than traditional cars. In the case of XPeng, you can even chain multiple commands together. Many XPeng users in China use voice almost exclusively except for the simplest functions.
@@networm78 No, it won't. First I need to scream "shut up" for everyone in a car and only then I can execute command in some stupid english language. I don't speak english naturally. Been a p7 owner for over 2 years now. Excellent performance on road. Door handles started to malfunction a while ago but Xpeng took care of the problem almost immediately without charge. Happy owner!
The single best thing I like about this, is that the manufacturer has included all the "bells & whistles" across the entire range, entry -> luxury. Not hiding 'extra' features behind a subscription, or a 'package upgrade', but across all of them. Sure, have extra power/range, funky doors, sound systems or what-have-you as additional costs. But all the key, every day things you need, want and will actually use on every variant. There is some very good stuff coming out of China these days, and I really hope it is genuinely worrying to the other legacy car makers. Great vid, thank you, folks! :-)

Extraordinary how lethargic legacy manufacturers are, literally had 10+ years to prepare...
It's not as simple as that. Classic brands have an entire production line, sales network and parts manufacturers. It's a lot harder to convert that to something new than to start from zero .
@@caleidoo one word to sum up your comment:" Bureaucracy" that is what happens when you are getting tro big and been around long enough
@@caleidoo just a lack of incentive as the complexity of engine/gearbox gives you huge entry barrier for newcomers, yet EVs are basically laptops on wheels and competition will be fierce with much lower profit margins...
@@viktorianas Research and development of new energy electric vehicles is not so simple, China's new energy technology and new energy vehicles are decades of layout, from the 1980s, the beginning of the 1990s scientist Qian Xuesen suggested skipping fuel car development of new energy vehicles, BYD also began to layout from the 1990s, around 2003 on the development of mass production of commercialized new energy electric vehicles. If you Google new energy patent technologies, papers, parts supply chains, etc., most of them are from China, which accounts for the majority of the world's new energy technology patents and parts supply chains.
IMO they are lethargic about EV's for this main reasons, one oil and ICE motors, they are still owned, dependent on and governed by the oil companies, they have a long list of patents on ICE motors that they don't want to see gone, and lastly they have no real incentive to really compete against China EV's, because they have the insurance that their governments will support them more than they will support China makers.
Will Germany let China car makers displace German car makers? NO! Will the USA a oil provider let China EV car makers sell more in USA than USA ICE/EV car makers? NO! When your government has your back, you have no incentive to improve and this is mostly why legacy car makers from Europe and USA are lethargic about EV's.

Unfortunately the P5 is a flop, and the G9 is nice but a bit pricy. But the P7i should do well and Xpeng's fortune depends on their new G6, which seems priced more competitively. I personally think the G6 is a nicer car inside and out compared to the Model Y.

4:57 I work in automation, if there's anything I learned from it: not everything needs to be electronically automated. The _only_ thing you'll have are more gimmics which can break.
Yea, i think the Chinese folk are still hyped about the tech so they don't care about that.
If you don't have a feature, you cannot have it broken. If you don't have a button, you cannot have it broken.

@@sindoray2094 That's not exactly what I'm saying. You can have any feature you want, and you can automate the crap out of it. But be aware that the more complex you make something, the easier it breaks ... so if you also want long term reliability, you need to stop at a certain point.
This, of course, doesn't apply if the new method outlives the lifespan of the appliance or actually improves the (long term) reliability or if it's cheap and easy and sustainable to replace. But as we've often seen with many of these gimmics ... they are none of those.

Nice review. Like the dash. Silly doors may work in ever smaller parking spaces ... Looks good. Wonder when it'll be coming to the USA? 😁
The Chinese have very probably decided not to bother at all with US investment. In the current climate, and given US behaviour in general, this is hardy surprising. They'll sell limited numbers to selected "other" markets, depending on how those places governments behave.
Parking spaces aren't actually getting smaller. Funnily enough it's cars (like this one) keep getting bigger.

Given the current anti-Chinese sentiment in the USA, you may be waiting awhile. To my knowledge only Polestar and Nio have firm plans for the USA, Polestar is building a plant there and Nio looking for a site (Nio actually has a engineering & business location in San Jose California, but I think the Inflation Reduction Act changed their plans to ship kits to the USA and look for a production site, which will take longer).

Knowing how fast the Chinese improve, legacy automakers should be worried.

I have a long range, AWD Model 3 and it does not get 620 km range. The most is about 568 k, at least in theory. I've checked the Tesla Canada website recently and have not seen any change in this stat. Are Model 3s getting more range in Europe?

My wife points out that those doors are really going to suck when you're trying to get into the car quickly in the pouring rain...
if you are thinking about how long it takes for them to open, I suggest that you will get used to pressing the 'door open' button on your key fob as you walk up to the car - and time it just right so that when you arrive at the car the doors will just have completed opening and you just get in...

the updated version hasit already note the P7i is only available in china. the global version also has an electrical bootlid
As a G9 owner, I mostly use voice control to open the bootlid...
Apart from bridge tolls and the ticket machines at the gates of parking structures, having left hand drive isn't that big a problem. Love that they've gone with proper buttons on the wheel (no capacitive nonsense a la VW) and realised that good voice command is the way to go, safer than having to glance down to where a dial/button is.
You've got the accent going for you bro! Keep it up. ;)
I have loved the P7 since the first time I saw it about 2 years ago - I think it look amazing in a standout colour rather than grey - loved the bit about saying Elliot reviewed it ten years ago! Uphill is an area most people never get to see who visit Weston Super Mare - the manor is lovely as is the beach by the sailing club you ended up at - beautiful sunsets there - look forward to seeing it sunday in Harrogate - we need to be more Norway!
This is an example how Chinese manufacturers will bankrupt many US and European car manufacturers ! Consumers are getting quality at a great price !
Love the talk in UK accent - Nice. Looks nicer then my BYD atto3, which I always use voice commend, tell the car I feel cold and it will increase temperature, say heat up the seat, only the seat where the voice come from get heated, navigate to your work places, shops nearby, EV charging and even the public toilet, and you can say zoom in and out for the map, turn the screen up if drive on a straight road ahead, the fan speed will auto reduce if you use mobile calls, heard from next year BYD will get the car find a car park itself and notice the location after drop you off the entrance, also video rear view mirror will become standard et al.
Cant wait for it to come to the UK
They tested it out thoroughly in China before selling it to Europe. I hope other EU countries could get it too. I'm also quite interested in Zeeker X, which is coming to Sweden and Netherland this year hopefully. It is using the same platform as Smart #1 and Volvo EX30 but bigger and arguably quirkier. yep been driving Hybrids since 2000 and fully electric since 2013, well done Xpeng all in 4 years!!!! Love the styling to what a car, not sure what happened with the boot though
Looks awesome! Wonder if it'll come up Australia
Nice to see a balanced review by someone who didn't show up wearing the company's merch.
Heard that VW has bought into Xpeng to bolster its EV selection, a testament of the new marque's quality.
Thanks for the video. Impressive! how Great EV brands from China
I lived in the UK for around 5 years and I miss the UK so much. Wishing one day when I get back to the UK I can drive one
I test drove an MG4 at the weekend and while there was a lot for the money, it's was missing a few key things (parking sensors, rear wiper) and overall did feel like a cheap car. It was very good value however and the sales staff were very nice. Now I see reviews of this and the BYD cars and message is clear - wait 6-12 months and good things are coming to the UK from China. Apart from maybe the Cupra Born I don't see anything from any of the legacy brands that I would want to buy as you quickly get to Tesla prices with most of the options and then you might as well buy a Tesla as most German EV's are so compromised.
It is cheap, but the 4WD version packs 400HP+. It's the real hothatch.
@@jinliu1198 it was the internal build quality that made me think twice. Besides there's not many places where you can use 400+bhp on the UK roads where most of them are limited to 30-40 mph.
@@jinliu1198 "real hothatch" lol almost weighs 2 tons and taller than a Nissan Qashqai.. the mg4 isnt a hatchback
Damn. I want one.
Finally a cool car Xpeng 7 love the 358km range! When's it coming up to Canada 🇨🇦?
Wow, what a fantastic car!!
P7 and G9 in particular are great cars but the one I have my eyes on is the G6 (model Y competitor with better interior and longer range) which should arrive in Europe next year.
Elliot review coming soon!
I thought the G9 was the model y competition
@@adisurd I would definitely say that G9 is a class above both in terms of size and interior quality.
The EU and US are terrified and rightly so, China has leapfrogged ahead.
It’s making some great looking cars with the price that people want.
Who wants to pay £50k for an electric golf?.
It’s crazy.
My wife’s next car is an electric Chinese car, she only does short distances etc.
They are jealous
When you talked about the Porsche help they recieved I was like "I knew it had some Porsche DNA!"
Porsche is involved because the Volkswagen group has a 5% stake at Xpeng.
Great video, mate. I am looking forward to the car to arrive to my country at the end of the year.
Nope . Porsche had no involvement as porsche never signed any such contract
Either prove it or u lose.
Oh that looks nice and like so much comes as standard, European manufacturers could learn a thing or too.
