Survival, Self-Reliance, Bushcraft, Camping, Making Fire, James Harris. Original music by Cuervo Negro. Junkyard Fox
As a kid I went camping with a shower curtain for my tent, and just an old Barlow knife. We didn’t realize back then that we were doing “bushcrafting” wrong. We just called it having fun in the woods.
I think you did it just right. You knew that having fun doesn't have to cost much.
If you had fun you did it right.
@@kevola5739 Exactly! 💯
What ever keep s you warm ✌️👍👍
Same here we would dig a hole cover with plastic and wood and have a blast. But I'm 65 now. R.v. only. Remember the good old times.
When I got out of the Army, discovered that my nice five-year-old double mantle Coleman lantern hadn't made it home with me. Wanted to take the kids fishing, stopped by a flea market outside Lubbock. There was an old single mantle 'little red Coleman lantern' from the '60's, no glass but it held pressure. Bought a new globe from a hardware store. The lantern cost $5, new globe was $8. That was in '92, it's still going strong. The little store is long gone, though. Long time subscriber.
awesome! I once saw an oil lantern in a thrift store for 2 bucks and didnt buy it. I regret I didnt get it
What a great camping video. Never realized how great Cuervo's voice is when he sings. Thank you gentlemen.
Ya all went super fancy with the thrift store finds and totally over the top with the fancy brioche hot dog buns!🤓😉🤣❤️ya always make me laugh and love your videos brothers and love Cuervo negro’s beautiful melodic creations.❤️I listen on the road and helps me deal with the crazies.
Got a Wool Pendelton flannel shirt for 3 bucks at a thrift store 20 years ago, still have it.drizzle cold water on top of the coffee, the grounds will sink to the bottom.Burnt tortillas de maiz, broken up into coffee is Absolutely amazing.Speaking of amazing,Cuervo Negro educated the spirits out there,Cheers you guy's!
Grate video... but as a desert camper you should know to always check your boots before putting your foot in
very true!! I was so groggy I didnt think about it
As a youngster I slept on the ground by a fire in the Louisiana swamps and thought nothing of it. No telling what crawlers got on me during the night. I lived through it. I’ve lost that courage somehow. I am not afraid to admit. I would never have the courage to sleep on the ground in Arizona. I’ve seen centipedes as big as snakes there. This was a very enjoyable video. I’m glad that I have become a subscriber. Take care.
All my "cowboy" coffee pots are enamel coated..
Cook Pots too! All on the fire.
ah ok, I stand corrected. I didnt know you can boil with enamel
@@JunkyardFox not a troll... I enjoy your content!
@@echogary I appreciate the info, than you
I love this video concept ❤ Most of the gear shown in camping vids adds up to hundreds of dollars. I have postponed adventuring because I didn't think I had the "right" kind of gear. This shows you don't need the newest and coolest stuff to go out and have fun. You should do more of these in the future. Thanks guys!
You earned it for putting on the cat mask.
He should have worn the cat mask and the shorts the entire video! Now that would be something!
Hahaha poor people hotdogs, I was rolling. I did the same thing when I got those hotdog buns
Ha! We had poor people hotdogs and oven fries for supper tonight! Very good!
I still have my red 1960’s Coleman lantern and it still works fine. Iam 63 and am returning to my roots using simpler cheaper tools for outdooors . Started camping in my teens with a tarp ( wish I still had it) sleeping on the ground with snakes everywhere but no worries when you are a teen. Maybe a sleeping bag. Did not knows brands then or cared. Iam sure an inexpensive flashlight along w cooking a can of beanie weenies over the fire. Such simpler times and I miss it . Cheers to all !
sounds like wonderful times
So happy to see Cuervo Negro along with you for this one. My favorite videos are when you two are together. Good vibes.
appreciate it, new camping video coming soon
The best Goodwill find I made was yesterday. I needed a backpack and I got one for 10.00 then not knowing anything about the roll top I searched RUclips and followed up with Amazon. Its a Aquaquest 30 L selling for 99.00 plus shipping in brand new condition 😊
I usually donate to them an on a lark after my donation I decided to go inside...great decision
fantastic find!
Go to the thrift stores near the rich neighborhoods!
That's where they went, in Scottsdale lol
Thank you for the video. 😊 It's nice to see you and I'm happy to see Cuervo too.
new video coming tomorrow!
Great to see budget friendly videos. Looks like you had an amazing time without spending loads of cash.
Good to see Cuervo with you! Love his tunes!
Looked like a nice thrift store adventure, seems like you guys hit some good thrift stores, I live here in the valley also and I go thrift store shopping a lot!
The best things I found at a thrift store is my cook ware and my grill, they are normally in my ride all the time.
Good video James and Cuervo, have a good one!
thanks for joining us once more, Cilla!
Perfect video for a Friday night! You guys are awesome! Holy Sh!t !!!Cuervo singing is top tier! Made this even better, thank you, my friend.
$100- thriftstore camping is luxurious.
I love these kinds of videos. Thrift store, dollar store, whatever. Just the attempt at improvising and making do without thousands of dollars of gear or being totally familiar with what you have.
Looks like that pan has a pour spout. Maybe could boil water in there.
Great video, guys!
I could taste the food thru my TV screen!
I found a Dietz lantern for $1.99 at a thrift store. I added the wick and fuel. Great find! Great video, you guys are awesome!
So fun watching you guys have fun! Thank you!
Sounds like James is fighting a head cold
no its just morning allergies
Variety is the spice of life!
I'm a big fan of shopping at the thrift store. You never know what you may see.
Y’all should do a “you pick it; we camp it” that’ll be fun!!
Yo bro, your in my backyard, good to see you back. Great episode idea!
Next time use the pan to boil your Coffey not just the cup! Excellent video guys ♥️♥️
Cuevro has a good voice, needs to sing more often to music that he strums. 👌👍😃
That's a great song Curevo!
I happen to work for Goodwill here in San Antonio. Over the years ive gotten- Pelican cases, S&W m9 bayonet, Action packer tote, lightfighter tent. We are surrounded by military bases so theres always good outdoor gear coming through
nice!!! next time im in that area, I definitely gotta pay them goodwills a visit
I appreciate hearing one of my favorite John Hartford songs.
i love Cuervo's cover of In Tall Buildings :)
I'm seeing a bug net hanging on that little pop-up. Maybe a tarp canopy.
You need to try thrift stores in small mountain towns cloudcroft is awesome to get some expensive camping gear on the cheap.
My fondest memory of camping was when my dad would take my brother and I quail hunting. It usually fell on a school day, but my dad would drive us out into the Arizona desert the night before opening day in his 1934 Ford pickup ("Rocky"). We would cook our supper over a wood fire, then sleep in the bed of "Rocky" with my dad in the middle and my brother and I on either side of him. We would wake up early enough to cook breakfast over the fire and then be ready for the sun to rise to start our quail hunt. My dad would then dive us to school and drop us often in a enough time to not be late. I was about 10 and my brother was 7, (65 yrs. ago) so this was a very exiting time for us.
that sounds like a wonderful memory to reminisce about from time to time, thank you for coming along!
Thanks James, I really enjoy your videos. You and Cuervo Negro come across as down-to-earth guys, that are unpretentious and humble. Watching your videos is like a breath of fresh air compared to so many of the current outdoor videos that feature vehicles, cooking systems, gear & battery setups that only the well-to-do can afford. Camping shouldn't be a "competive sport". This video proves it is more about getting out and enjoying nature.
Those buns are called split tops for brats and other larger sausages. Take into account that I am from Ohio so they maybe called something else in Arizona.
Yes, those are typical Boston lobster roll and hot dog buns. Here in AZ we buy them from Bashas', they carry a brand that are brioche and very tasty.
Always check your boots for critters before donning
Gosh I really like hearing cuervo’s singing!❤ gotta do that more and thee most ever heard him say anything cause he’s a very soft spoken guy nothing wrong with that though. Much love n respect from Ohio brothers❤️
Hey, welcome back to AZ! Fun video, guys. Hello from the East side of Tucson, again.
Fancy rolls,love it!!!!
The highlight of this video was Cuervo singing Tall Buildings, of of my favorites. I haven't heard it in years, thanks guys!
One of John Hartford's greatest! Thanks CN! Another great video.
One of these days you are going to stick your foot into a boot and find a very angry scorpion or other critter. Always check the boots for occupants first.
Breakfast looks amazing
Just found your video. Love thrift store challenges. I found a hunters tent for $8.00, LL Bean blanket, thermo pad, kitchen utensils and always looking. Thank you for the inspiration and relaxing video. Music was great too. We will be watching more.
Winner
Awesome thrift adventure! The music was great too! Very nice singing voice.
Glad you enjoyed it
That was grt. Enjoyed the concept. It's nice to change things up. Mey not be better but creates new memories. Keep videos coming
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love to go what I call Goodwill Hunting. I have found some huge deals. I once found a lab coat with the name Dr. I. Felterbush Freelance Gynecologist and for $2m it is mine.
Great Video Manos. Can't wait for our next one...Well Done..
we gotta camp again soon ,brotha!
Good cheap Thrift Store stuff works just as good as the best REI-Amazon stuff!
Excellent video!
I was just 4 months old when my parents went camping back in 1974. All the gear was from thrift stores. An old army surplus tent and cooked over the fire. The majority of my current camping gear is either from thrift stores or passed down from my parents
luv you guys, such peace with mother earth and yourselves.
Aluminum foil folded back on itself a few times can be used as plates… even bowls. It’s not perfect… but can do the job if in a pinch.
ill be using aluminum soon in an upcoming catch n cook
Awesome! I’ll be sure to watch it.
I love desert camping. Originally from the Midwest, we camped a lot in Michigan, all 4 seasons. I loved winter camping the best. Desert camping is so different, different woods, wide open skies, and coyotes to serenade you at night. Great video, guys. If you had a bit of mustard for the sausages, that would have topped it off nicely!
Brokeback mountain action
Love this video brothers Ahe'hye'e
Always cool to se the two compadres making vids again 💯💯💯💯
Fun concept and nostalgic as that's how we did it as kids. Brioche buns are nice as well when slightly toasted.
You guys make the best camping videos. I look everyday to make sure I'm up to date on your adventures. It's my therapy lol thank you
In all honesty 99% of a great camping experience can be had with super cheap gear. And there ain't nothing wrong with a meal from a convenience store or a dollar store. Great video. Great song. Good choice for your ordinance.
Enamel can go on coals and even in the fire. You should try it, the main problem with enamel is the thermal shock of quick heating/cooling where the metal and the glass heats unevenly. Not putting it on the hottest part you're certainly able to boil a cup of water in it. Try it, it's likely to work. With the caveat that the mug probably isn't very good enamel of course.
thank you for the info!
Thank you Cuervo and James!
Looks like fun. I had the idea of a dollar store challenge myself, but after seeing lots of people had done it, I never did. Oh, and some thrift stores DO have food; bread, eggs, canned goods, pasta, etc. Just watch the expiration dates. I have found lots of great stuff at thrift stores! Got a sleeping bag for $2 once that I keep in my truck for emergencies. I' sure if I went through my gear I would find many things of the same origin.
there are some awesome treasures to be found in thrift stores
Oh yeah! I just got back from one. I forgot to compliment Cuervo on his music. Very nice.
I love Cuervo's music.
Cuervo can write a song!! That was Deep really hit home with me
thsi is a cover song, though cuervo may be working on some new music soon
@@JunkyardFox well he’s so talented. I thought it was his lol never heard it before but man that song hit home probably hitting my midlife crisis where all I wanna do is camp love your videos I’m up in Minnesota in the Northland and can’t wait to explore the desert someday
Well, it's firday, and there is a new junkyard video. Thank goodness for the small stuff.
This is a great video James nice fire nice music .. you don't have to best gear to go get your boots dirty go have fun. thanks for Great camp . Till next god bless
You got that right!
Like this idea a lot camp on the cheap. Here in PalmSprings, California we find a lot in the thrift stores
Best was an Arc'teryx jacket and a lot of Columbia gear.
Stay safe my friend
you can find some treasures there! Thanks for sharing!
Cuervo sounds like Jeff Tweedy. That was a nice song. Keep it up guys.
Thank you, Cuervo, for an old John Hartford song. Fond memories of tome gone by. Great video, guys. Reminds me of camping in the rain on Copperhead Hill. All we had was an old shelter half and a Barlow knife and old hatchet. We had a blast.
I've been catching up on your last few videos today and they are great as always. I particularly love your winter camp with Irish Zombie Nation 👌
Awesome, thank you!
Great video, my brothers and I used our dad’s and uncle’s WWII packs, canteens, mess kits and GI mummy sleeping bags and went out camping all over the south eastern part of AZ. You brought back great memories, thanks
Add a touch of cold water to the boiling grounds so they'll settle down to the bottom
James, I absolutely loved it! What a great twist on y'alls adventures! Cuervo you rock!
Glad you enjoyed it!
That was a great video, I have found that goodwill is now crazy expensive, independent one are usually a lot less expensive.
really? the ones I shopped at had great prices but I have heard a lot of thrift stores getting ridiculous
Brand new ridge-rest for $12? Awesome score! I've been checking the knives at every thrift store I hit looking for carbon steel blades to rehabilitate into period fur trade blades. After 4 years I'm at one blade, it made a nice little caping blade.
Looks like the beer store run was a success!
I think you both did well.. The music is as always beautiful. You guys did well.I lived when sang the song Much love from Ohio
Ps: James start checking your boots for spìders.
Great video, great message to anyone who wants to get outdoors and great music. You guys do such a great job! Thank you!
Thank you guys. Awesome video brought me back to when I was a kid. Didn’t need much to go camping now that I can afford everything I want. I’m not satisfied. I like the old way. Good stuff you guys.
Thanks for the thrift store video I have bought three quarters or more of my stuff at thrift stores and yard sales .
Hello 👋 my outdoor's friend, greetings from Northern California. It's good to see you and Cuervo again. It looks like you gentlemen are having an enjoyable time. I look forward to your next outdoor adventure. Stay safe out there. 😊
Cute little gopher. Love the Tall Buildings song
Beautiful lyrics in the song there, would love to hear it on Spotify if it isn’t already!
its a song cover, originally by John Hartford, im sure you can find it there
Been camping alot as a kid thru adulthood,I bought a tent that fits inside my bed of my truck, works for me. Great singing, music, and friends that you both enjoy! I never thought about going to thrift stores to buy outdoor items,I'm needing a backpack will look around. Great video guys!
Absolutely loved this adventure. Fun, good food and entertaining. Got to say, I love hearing you sing while you play Cuervo! Please more of that! This was so awesome
Thank you guys for this
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video.
Cuervo voice is very good!
Watch those hands so close to the fire …couple of times I thought you were too close !
Best,
Mike
Georgetown , TX
James👍👍Everything was going just fine until you and Cuervo started munching down those campfire brats.. I had to halt watching, get the grill going and throw on a ribeye w/pepperjack cheese and green chili, asparagus and baby potatoes. It's all good now, finishing up the video with a Macallan 15yr in hand😉 Midnight lullaby's by the fire..perfect, Cuervo has been sorely missed. Good morning meal and coffee rounds out a great camp, thanks for the work and trip, well done as always. See you soon bros...
Very nice gentlemen😎
Thank you kindly
Well done ! Many many yrs ago I’d hit the woods with similar gear. Usually no tent tho. Just sleeping bag on top of two old moving blankets next to the fire . An old cast iron skillet and an aluminum pot for cookware 2 pocket knives , a scout knife and a stockman later I picked up an old butcher knife . Always had a fishing rod just one and always managed to put a trout or 2 in the skillet. Good times then. I like to see videos like this just the basics no alphanumeric hi end steel knives or titanium anything . My music came from an old Emerson transistor radio AM only . Gotta love Cuervo music !!! Thank you
that sounds like such simple, wonderful times
Way better thrift stores than we have around here that's for sure
Yesterday I bought a golf bag and old metal cart for $8. I'm using it to haul around fishing stuff for carp and I cut the dividers out. I have not figured out how to mount a chair to it yet. I'll for now used a tiny swivel chair that I used to use for deer hunting.
Really good video, man. Very calming, very chill. I used to lived in Arizona, it's my favorite state. I can't place what it is, but your videos are a step above a bunch of others. You deserve more subscribers, it's great content.
Great video guys! And Cuervo's Tall Buildings jam was exquisite! Great job!
Great video! Love the idea of doing a thrift store challenge for camping supplies. Y’all were inspiring.
I especially loved Cuervo Negro’s music and his voice! Looking forward to more videos!
Awesome! Thank you for joining us once more! we got a ton of awesome videos coming this year, stay tuned!
Oak Flat, the last Apache Stronghold is a very good place to camp located south of Globe Arizona
Nice twist on things! Great idea.
BRAVO GENT'S!! Great vid.. Brings it back home! More please...
