Today I stealth camp at Acala, Texas, an abandoned farming town, which I had no idea was very close to the US/ Mexico Border, a bit too close for comfort.

Hey the corprolsaid to come over your way and say hi. Looks like you have a new fan member. Chuck adams from Indiana 30 miles from Cincinnati ohio.😊
Flowing water is NOT a breeding ground for mosquitoes. It is clean stagnant water.
yes, and the flowing water slows to make stagnant water in the fields
@@JunkyardFox
True and Im thinkin you shoulda pointed that out in your video
since there may be some who aint aware of that distinction. 🙂
@@Boony_34C You did for him!!! We all win!
For stealth at night, best to use red light vs white light.
Red light does not affect the rods and cones in your eyes, whereby white lights do. It takes approximately 30 minutes for your eyes to readjust to the dark after being subjected to white light at night.
If you were using white light, wanted to extinguish it to remain conspicuous, you vision would be impaired in the dark then if you have not used red light.
Of course, the alternative would be to wear an eyepatch over one eye preventing one from being exposed. That’s why pirates wore an eyepatch going from lighted topside decks down to the darker lower decks or holds of a ship they were attacking.
Words of wisdom
How weird, I have never heard of the owl pellets. I am currently camped at City of Rocks in New Mexico (I have seen you camp here before). I was in the office headquarters this morning and on their table in the sitting area there was a actual owl pellet with a tiny skull in it. That was the first I had ever heard of such a thing and then I was watching your video. Twice in one day! So bizarre! Man oh man, You got your boots dirty on this one!
city of rocks is beautiful! enjoy!
Gotta luv those old trucks.
Temping to swing by with a salvage trailer!
I love stealthcamping videos!!!
I grew up in an old general store, that also served as the Post Office I'm betting the Post Office for that town was not it's own building but was probably in that old grocery store.
That town was thriving at one point. A stop over just short of the border. A quant peaceful little town. Until one day ... Interstate 10 came along killed it
Thank you for your time in showing us this vid I live in Somerville TX we use to have an abandoned town outside of Brenham but they tore it down when people moved in and the neighbor farmers complained of the sewage smell since they ran it to a pond and they weren’t trying to buy the old 1900’s homes or paying property tax so yeah they were chased off and old homes torn down
Boooobbbaaaaaa on the DASH!!!!! I dig this overnighter. I would have been tweaking like I was on drugs at the sound of things walking around! My paranoia spiked when you dimmed the light. Another epic stealth video thank you for taking us with you JYF!
glad you liked it!
Simple meal!! You eat better in the field than I do at home.
Great stealth camping episode!
When it gets buggy or really cold out I actually use the shemagh to cover my face! It's thin enough that I can breathe through it, thick enough to be a bug barrier, and a layer of insulation right up against my face which makes you feel warmer and comfortable more than any kind of actual warmth difference
You know who lives in ghost towns? Ghosts.
The dead arent ones to worry about. .👍
@@Wheeling88 I don't believe in ghosts... until I do.

No I do
As someone who has bikepacked near the AZ/ Sonora border and spoken with BP who said "We had eyes on you" I would say chances are BP knew you were there and determined you weren't a threat. Great videos JYF! I particularly enjoyed the one with you and your lady in my neck of the woods around Tucson. Keep up the good work!
I’m going to say this is my favorite video from you. ❤ You took back my youth and sent me on the best adventure I have ever had. I wish I was young again and go where you were. I used to go to the places you were tonight . Have those adventures and don’t stop!!!! Great video!!!❤❤❤ don’t ever stop!!❤! DONT EVER STOP
appreciate the love my friend, im glad you enjoyed it! plenty more adventures to come
Hello 👋 James, thank you for the tag along on your outdoor adventure. You are correct, that is a spooky place. You have a lot courage. All the best to you. Stay safe out there. 😮
Im glad you upgraded from the .22 James. You can never be too careful!
I saved this vid until i could sit down, uninterrupted. I've re-watch the stealth camping series so many times, its good to get a new one. Quality vibes james.. as usual 👌
Hope you enjoyed it!
Awesome video !! Love the stealth camps, and abandoned towns and buildings, keep it up brother !
Wow, what a great adventure! That was epic, man! Love seeing you put yourself and your skills to the test in these videos, my friend!
Good video thanks for sharing the ghost town. Love old places and history.
Good choices all the way around. Especially the Sig. Glad you came out safe! Awesome video.
Very cool! Loved the solemn, melancholy vibe you captured. Thanks for the video!
Bats are good for getting rid of mosquitos. My mom has five giant bat houses around their house to help out plus they have a skeeter attracting machine that takes out thousands of them every night.
When they go camping they have a whole bunch of candles in pots on poles that they stick in the ground around the campsite. I think they are citronella candles?
Ghost Town - Good title for a Cuervo song! Cool video, James!
Learned many things on this adventure. Thank you so much.
im so happy youre staying armed and prepared. love your vids
Thanks for this stealth video. I have lived within 300 miles of Acala and never knew it existed! You are exposing West Texas history and things that I will probably never be able to experience. Again, Thanks for this history lesson on this little West Texas town.
glad you enjoyed it!
Nice adventure, really enjoy these stealth camping trips.
My favorite outdoors channel.

Love the stealth camping videos, stay safe and thank you.
I was also turned on to you by Shawn Kelly. I am enjoying what I see so far. Can't wait to see the rest of your videos. Hoping that you make speedy recovery.

Great Location! Awesome video.
love this type of content
New subscriber here, love your content bro🤟😎👍 I watched 13 of your vids before I got hooked. The simplicity ,honesty and no bs are the foundation to quality vids. Good stuff!!!❤💯💯💯💯💯
Your timing to leave was perfect lol. Fun video thanks for bringing us along.
Love your videos brother, been a fan for a while. You inspired me to get the Tuff Possum Haversack and the Green River Hunter. Keep up the great work! Oh, and please keep the stealth camping videos coming! Lol
FYI... While I found them where I lived, Owl pellets can be ordered online if you have young kids. Opening and reconstructing their prey actually made a couple of good 'science projects' for my kids.
This is another awesome video. Thanks for sharing...
I love your videos. It’s fun to watch. Keep it up and be safe out there. Watching from southern Arizona.
Thanks, will do!

Another amazing adventure I wish I could do things like this 👍👍👍
Awesome adventure! Especially enjoyed "The Fire Spoke" i havent heard that one yet

Boy an interaction with the Border Patrol would have added a lot more excitement lol
Glad it all went smoothly. Good Stealth!

Your awesome and awesome video be safe out there
Awesome Brother! 🙌🏼💪🏼
Awesome vid, looks a fun adventure
Thanks for watching!
Thanks!
I’m from El Paso and know exactly where you are. I would NEVER camp there just because it’s TOO CLOSE to the border!!! Too risky be careful out there.
Really dug the video James! This was my favorite stealth camping video so far! Glad you didn't have to deal with cartel of desperados!
thanks for coming along Jeff!
amazing spot, loved this one!
Great video! Thanks for sharing a side of the USA which we rarely ever see. The abandoned town reminds me of many such places in rural Australia I have seen. You can't help but think about the people who once lived there and why everything was abandoned.
Glad you enjoyed it
Nice video. I always enjoy your over night camps. I live in the north of the country and I would like to share a modification to your tarp and blanket that really makes a difference for me. The blanket is a great insulator but has almost no wind resistance, the tarp is great against the wind but not an insulator. The blanket INSIDE the tarp will maximize the strength of both. I have added snaps to the edges of my blanket and tarp to hold them together and that makes an awesome bedroll that insulates, and resists both wind and rain. I use a queen blanket and tarp size so I can have half underneath me and half over me with one side and the ends left unfastened. This gives the advantages of a sleeping bag but can be flung open to respond to an emergency or distubance.
That’s basically what we old military guys call a Jungle Roll. Good for to have figured it out by yourself.
@@scout06171 To be honest, I was probably inspired by the jungle roll concept. I wasn't in the military (glasses too thick and asthma resulted in rejection) but there are plenty of ex-military in my circle of friends. There IS an advantage to my civilian version, I put snaps on several different blankets so I can tailor my insulating layer to seasonal conditions. It's a bit more versitile than the poncho and woobie combination as long as I pay attention to the weather. At this point I rarely use or even bring a sleeping bag because the freedom of movement and ability to easily regulate temperature by opening the roll or sticking a leg out is really more comfortable.
I originally tried that, nut the winds kept making my tarp fly off me, so I put the blanket on top to add weight
@@JunkyardFoxI DID listen to your explanation during the video. I meant my comment as more of a suggestion for modifications to the equipment for future use. In the moment, you do whatever you need to do to make it work for the night (which is what you did👍) another way to deal with the problem on the fly would be to use pebbles and small bits of cordage to tie the tarp and blanket together like tarp buttons on ridgelines or stake outs.
Great video! Keep up the good work!
Thanks, will do!
great one, very interesting.
Ay, cool video dude. First time i've seen you pop up on my feed.
dude i absolutely love this channel this is a wild video being from north texas myself i understand the mosquitos and animals and BORDER PATROL lol great video!!

Man, great stuff. Creepy ... in a good way 😁.
❤🤍💙 Very enjoyable 😉 my friend!
Killer video brother!
WOW James this one will go down as one of my favorites. I promise you my friend. I heard footsteps in that building. Dam it man. LOL 😅. Keep em coming.
the whole night, there was odd sounds coming from that house
I believe i said Iove that sht! Great video James, awesome tunes as always. And remember the 365's tritium sights glow in pitch black dark!
deepwoods off on clothing only helps being super clean also co2 scrubber also helps
Great video
Good Video!!
Hello James, I found your channel today through Shawn Kelly Corporal's Corner, .hi from Australia 🇦🇺 🇺🇸. Keen to catchup on your videos, Good Health respect and kind regards
Wally world camping section in the bug dope sub-section…
Looks like a hand held fan, takes a 12hour fuels cell and a bug dope 2x2 repelent sheet. Creates a 15ft radius no fly zone for mosquitoes. I love that thing!!!!
thats basically the device I took
THANK YOU for another stealth camping vid!
More to come!
@@JunkyardFoxhoping to get my boots dirty soon
Just found you and watched this - awesome. Thanks for the words at the end 🎉
welcome aboard!
SpOOOky! Thank you, really enjoy your videoes!
Hope ya get well soon
Good one James.❤
thanks for coming along
That was super cool! Abandoned places like that always get me interested in their history. When its warm enough for mosquitoes and ticks here I pretty much spend my life covered in repellent. Insect bites are a disease vector and I already got Lime disease from ticks. When you look at the CDC's list of mosquito borne diseases you may decide to suffer through the bug spray. Great video, once again, James. Thanks for taking us along.
next time, ill for sure use the repellent and a bug net
@@JunkyardFox You know what? A review of insect nets may be worthwhile. I used my Army issue bug nets whenever we were on the FOB and they worked pretty well. In the field I just used bug juice. We even sprayed our uniforms with Permethrim (SP?) to keep the bugs away. I'm not sure it worked very well, but I'll probably die of cancer and stop caring! LOL.
While you were shining your light in that building, after you stopped moving, there were what sounded like 3 distinct foot steps! They were almost as heavy and loud as yours, but not quite.
im telling you, there as a lot of odd sounds coming from that house the entire night
I have always wanted to do something just like this in some of the old ghost towns here in western nebraska.
Mosquito coils burn slow and last a long time. I used them in Arkansas during the summer, they worked very well
This video reminds me a cowboy movie , music and ambience 👍🏽
Just a couple points in safety. If you are worried about the mules make sure you keep your knife on you and get your fire arm out of site. Not sure if you had it sitting out when you were sleeping.
Great video see you next time have a blessed one
Thanks for coming
That was awesome! I loved the nostalgia of the old building and the history behind them. Myself and Doc got worried when you said it was near the border. Anyways good video, my friend.
thanks for coming along!
@@JunkyardFox of course
Great camp out like how ya toasted your shell the way Shadow done his up in your trip with him and Red
yup, been hanging out with shadow too long lol
Great video as always! Greetings from Serbia!
Nice, James! I'll bet biting insects are responsible for spilling more human blood than all the wolves, bears and snakes put together. So, even if it's goofy looking, I don't go anywhere outdoors for very long without a proper bug net.
Those big ol ants reminded me of a sample from the olden days, when they charged for telegrams by the word -- one message that saved some coin: "ANACIN HOSPITAL. ADAMANT BITTER ASININE PLACES." 😮
Really enjoyed it.
At 72 I am not an outdoorsman but sure learn a lot from your videos.
As to the sidearm why the semiautomatic over a revolver?
Enjoy your cooking parts …those peppers are full of antioxidants!
And why don’t you pack a mosquito net?
Keep the videos coming. I just got over some medical issues and your videos help a lot!
Best,
Mike
I plan to get a revolver soon. I think a semi is far more reliable and faster. I have a mosquito net now.
